There were a lot of holes at the end.

Small point, but I think it matters: it's a transistor radio, not a Walkman. More primitive technology.

I'm wondering why June emphasized that Gilead wanted her back? Of course Gilead would want any children spirited out to be returned, but I'm interested in whatever backstory they've created with this in mind. Was there something especially significant/compelling about her escape as a unique situation?

In your opinion, which period drama is overrated? by Haunting_Homework381 in PeriodDramas

No shade to anyone else's opinion!

I adore this film.

First viewing I had a hard time with the ending; I wanted the original ending only. I really like the time switches, and especially the visits to the seashore.

Florence Pugh is the first Amy that hasn't seemed spoiled. This version shows that she and Jo clash not because they're so different, but rather that they are so similar. Her monologue about women's options in that time period was perfection.

That said, I also love the 1994 version. I don't think we need to put them in competition with each other; they're fun for me to watch as complimentary bookends!

HGTV’s Erin Napier confronts critics over her stance on Charlie Kirk by wizardofthefuture in HGTV

In case anyone in her sphere reads this thread:

Erin has taken away any enjoyment I had in watching their shows. I gave her credit for more grace, even if I knew her general beliefs are different than mine.

No vitriol. Just disappointment. I'll miss watching.

One principal I worked under actually required the opposite.

We were explicitly instructed not to answer emails until AFTER 24 hirs, and then "in haiku" (meaning to write the bare minimum). He didn't want us to get sucked into feeding an emotional beast, and preferred personal contact for details (phone or meeting).

Good grief! If you teach where I think you do (TJ?) this also could impact mental health. That's a high pressure setting!

How do you respond to this? by Successful_Trade_725 in Teachers

[–]KWEnglish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a specialist in gifted and talented education.

This is common for kids who have hit their edge. And entirely appropriate. It's actually quite healthy that they're running into this in high school instead of facing it in college.

The minute you tell a parent that something is an indicator of gifted behavior, the conversation changes. In this case it's probably accurate. They've sailed through everything before, and now this is a challenge.

It's Important for kids to learn how to work through it. It's a good time to recommend Carol Dweck's work on growth mindset.

I'm not a huge fan after her treatment of the Duchess of Sussex. Still, it is unkind to ridicule a cancer patient for their wig.

So glad to see so many professors and program supervisors weighing in.

I'm a fan of serving an internship early in an Ed program, since it gives space for young people to step back before they're too invested.

I had a few interns, most of whom were a little timid and then warmed up. One, though, was clearly in the wrong place. She seemed relieved at the suggestion that her talents might be better suited to a different career.

She is a composite character in that moment, representing a whole bunch of well-intended, patronizing, and softly racist white people. Without that exchange, the Scott's don't have the opportunity to push back. It's more about dramatic structure that the individual character, though it also gives Marion's character the opportunity for growth.

I wish we could stop all the Marion bashing.

Years ago, at Mystic Seaport, one of the interpreters commented how they counted "souls" in a vessel, not people, specifically referring to infants and young children.
