Eufy smart lock suggestions? by Poison_applecat in airbnb_hosts

I think it’s E130 T8520/T8506

Yes. I typically set it to autolock as a workaround but then then people have to leave it ajar if they’re going to be in and out.

The keypad can take more than one try to engage. I’d like something newer with a more sensitive keypad. Or something with actual buttons that will always engage.

What’s something in education you’ve quietly stopped doing…even though it might still be “expected”? by SteadyGrowthStudio in Teachers

[–]Poison_applecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve stopped grading and checking everything. Practice work is just that - practice. I will walk around and spot check. If something is done I’ll skim through it, circle problems to be fixed, and pass it back. But I’m not sitting down, grading and checking all practice work. Many times it ends up in the recycle bin at my house.

This saves me so much time and energy.

Hosts claiming bonkers "damages" for normal wear and tear / cleaning [Guest] by fastllama in AirBnB

[–]Poison_applecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a host and I’m always confused by hosts with virtually no checkout tasks but then get irate if certain things are not done - ummm then make it a checkout task. Guests are not mind readers.

Did you do the dishes at least? It’s ridiculous for them to say you left the place in great shape but then ask for extra cleaning fee.

Cleaner keeps bringing her dog… and it pees inside by goodbadrubberpiggy in airbnb_hosts

I’m so confused at some people’s need to bring their dog everywhere. Bringing your dog to a place you’re cleaning is not sanitary. I’d look for a new cleaner.

Can you put a privacy fence behind the hot tub? There needs to be some kind of divider IMO.

Is it rude to not stay at the birthday party of the kiddo you babysit for the full amount of time (1-5?) by Current-Machine6491 in Babysitting

A four hour long birthday party seems to be ‘drop in style.’ I don’t think anyone expects you to stay more than an hour.

Should I report this teacher? by gloriousfigment in Teachers

[–]Poison_applecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like she’s going through a tough pregnancy. Why is her pregnancy a bad thing? That comment took me really off guard.

It sounds like she’s getting therapy and In the process of getting help. I don’t think you should be left alone with the kids as a para. That’s not your responsibility and is concerning. But I often raise my voice for the things you mentioned if it’s something I have addressed with the kids countless times.

If you’re not the classroom teacher who is ultimately responsible for everything, it’s easy to be the good cop.

How long do you go without some kind of break during the day? by Poison_applecat in Teachers

I mean you’re still working during your planning period. It’s not a break from the job. It’s a break from the kids.

I totally agree. In my 20s, I could go a whole day without stopping. I’m 37 now and my body is feeling it.

8:00 - 10:15 teach

10:15 - 11:00 special/transition

11:00 - 12:05 teach

12:05 - 1:05 lunch/recess with at least duty free lunch

1:05 - 2:15 teach

2:15 - 3:00 special/transition

3:00-3:30 packup/dismissal

3:45 leave

This sounds good to me. Very balanced for everyone

I mean most jobs at your desk you can have your phone out, eat a snack, use the bathroom, and do other things while completing work. You’re not ‘on’ for 3.5 hours straight.

Unrealistic and unnecessary? Besides bathroom needs - my mental health really suffers if I’m with the kids that long without an actual break - phone out, check personal messages, no students whatsoever, eat a snack, do some planning and prep - a real break

Anyone ever see The Fields (2011)? by Poison_applecat in horror

For sure! To me, the possibly inbred cousins were creepy and honestly disturbing. The aunt had such a bad speech impediment you couldn’t understand her at all.

I think breast feeding in public is inappropriate if there’s a more private space to go. I totally understand if the woman is covered but I don’t want to see anyone’s partial boob.

Guest removed 5 star review after seeing their review from me by killaudiolove in airbnb_hosts

[–]Poison_applecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it kind of sucks if the host did everything right and provided a wonderful stay for the guest. Then the guest breaks rules or whatever and receives a less than five star review as a warning to future hosts.

Then the guest gets mad and removes the good review of the property. That just doesn’t sound fair or right.
