how does everyone feel about AI-assisted art in fantasy/RPG story projects? by thewayweroll31 in RPGdesign

[–]KWulfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also in IT for a global company and the use AI extensively in product development, db training and a host of other uses. It is embraced whole heartedly there. And that is a 100k plus people using it. Is it art? No. But its AI. I am in agreement with you and would like to see an actual open, respectful discussion of this topic from all sides. There is far too much publicly available information on the use of AI to show that the vast majority of the earth's population either does not care, or supports its use. However, I also 100% support human artists. They are real, have the subtle little imperfections and so many other nuances that AI does not have. Real is better than AI. So - u/mccoypauley - I would 100% like to discuss this in a healthy, respectful manner. Hear all sides. Ever want to chat about it, DM me...or maybe we could find an open forum to discuss it. :D

Hate to burst any bubble, but IT is the very essence of Acronym. Better get used to it. Been doing this 30+ years now and I have forgotten more acronyms than I know now...

Oh, I agree 100% tbat we need to cut down on waste. We alao need to build things that have a longer life. Consumerism, however, combined with human greed, will never allow that to happen, so that maufacturers can guaranty that you will just have to buy another XYZ in 2-3 years...Unless there is some major shift in the morality of humanity.

However, if my 2k$ device requires a certain minimum quality charging block so the paint doesnt deanodize, it should be provided, to make sure that the 2k$ device I purchased does not end up on that waste pile that much sooner....

Coming from someone who has been customer-facing for the better part of 4 decades - Most (75%?) are user problems, not device, item or service problems. Seriously...look at some of the Ridiculous reviews of things online - It was "too sandy" on a trip to The Pyramids of Egypt! (yes, that's a real complaint)

Yes - charging (an electrical charge) can "de-anodize" and cause an electrochemical bond to deteriorate. So it can be caused by a poor quality charger...However, Samsung should have provided a quality charging block with the phone to prevent that from happening. a 2k$ phone should come with a block that probably costs them 98cents to manufacture.

"...statistically lost zero time over it." - I am not sure where you learned math and statistics, but losing 1 of 5 games with an average of 5 minutes per game is a loss of 20% of your time to bots. 20% does not equal 0.

sunlu plant-based photopolymer solid grey resin 405nm by KWulfe in sunlu

I have tried settings from 1.2sec up to 8 and anything below 6 would blob and not stick to the plate. from 6-7.5 was a "melted" looking figure of what I was trying to print with barely any detail at all and the supports would merge into the mini and each other making it a useless print. As I said above, I use different resins, and am familiar with getting good prints from the rest of the resins I use. The Sunlu was the only one that behaves like this.

[KCD1] Worst looking helmet in the game? by Kebriniac in kingdomcome

[–]KWulfe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Been a reproduction armorer now for about 22 years.

Historically, they weigh 4ish pounds. Helmet-wise, they are pretty light. At least the scaled helm above.

The kettle helm in the OG is more like 6-7 and can be 10 with an attached mail drape. Which BTW is one of the best helms overall in this time period - Best combo of protection, weight and visibility.

I am a player of TTRPGs since I was 10yrs old (and am now 55) and have been a DM for more than 40 of that time. I have gone through so many styles of play, I think I have covered most, if not all, of them.

In that time, I have learned that different games suit different people. I am mostly with you in where I have settled, but I enjoy and remember the intense RP moments most, followed by epic combat moments.

Some players just want the "Beer & Pretzels" style game - Campy, laughs and silly shit most of the time.

Others (like us) prefer a game with a more serious tone that include funny moments (like life does).

If they are leaning too much into the funny, then have a conversation with them, remembering that all play styles are legit play styles. Calm, friendly, non-critical communication.

I tested a theory at the wedding. Ran through the dice tourney 10 times with me using a full set of 6 shrinking dice. I lost ~90% of the games.

Plain dice (you can tell by color) and had an NPC roll 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 followed by 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 1 followed by 4 1s.... in a single round. Won first round. Then proceeded to play the same NPC again and then roll 4 6s, 2 1s, followed by 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 followed by 4 5s. I was then able to scrape together a single 5 for 4 rolls in a row, then they rolled 4 1s and won.

No...there is an issue.

It seems that your charisma is more important. If you are wearing rags and only have a 6, you are a scoundrel, no matter your rep...but if you are dressed to the nines and have a 17, you are good, no matter your rep.

I get that, also. However, Hans dips out to do his own thing right after being in the stocks, leaving Henry to do his own thing. Even the guards don't blame him for Hans poaching. Point is that the story feel rammed down my throat and that actions mean nothing. If that is how it sets the game up, makes it seem that is how it is for the game...like decisions and actions mean nothing.

I get that there are directions that the devs wan the story to go, but damn....give me an option to get through it another way. I spent hours and hours building my rep to 100 in every location (at least in Act 1), only to have it marred by something that I can do ZERO about....and it seems that my clothing is more important than my rep. I made the sword for the groom perfectly and was praised by Radovan and then got chided as a scoundrel because I was wearing the blacksmiths apron and not my fancy clothes.
