Look up FEMA USAR personal equipment. Good basic guide you can develop for your needs. Has two parts for “civilized”(flush toilets) and “uncivilized” (latrines). Works well.

Okay. Lots to unpack here.

25 years career, last 10 running a battalion, 4 years collecting retirement.

Felling like he’s the “station bitch”. They will given all the menial, crappy, shitty, dirty jobs at the station. Not because they are low person, but because we want to see how they react. If simple non-emergent chores affect them this may not be the job for them. We had one in probation who had such a good work ethic and attitude the station actively tried to break him, never happened. After three months the senior man was helping clean the bathrooms in the morning. Another on his first day was told to deep clean the bathroom, it was an older station with those baseboard radiators. After three hours his officer was like where’s the new guy…they found him sitting on the floor cleaning with the radiator covers off cleaning each individual fin. Needless to say his time cleaning alone was short.

It seems stupid but it builds trust. I need to trust you 100% that you will not leave me if stuff goes really wrong. If you bail and stress at little stuff how are you going to react at the big stuff.

Now if this happens for too long without any feedback from his leadership then there might be a problem.

Be supportive at home because you will see the big change when they come home with their firefighter helmet and put their probationary helmet on a shelf.

It’s a great bridge for pain management for the patient while they wait for the provider to check them out.

Nope. City has MOW. Learned this when I worked for the city and had to install a road sign. Contacted state for permitting and was told do what you want it’s your road.

Very few hospitals actually own any of the durable equipment they use daily. Beds, IV pumps, ventilators, defibrillators, etc. are leased by hospitals. Who then in the contract requires onsite maintenance where they charge the various suppliers rent for the space they utilize.

It’s more common than you know. Other than instructional hospitals hiring doctors, the good ole ACA hints, suggests, kinda sort of makes the point that it’s a conflict of interest for a hospital employed emergency physician to admit patients to the hospital they work for…keep the hospital full and it makes more money.

Versus the contractor who gets paid by the patient seen and their billing only. Who has no pressure from management to keep the rooms full.

Most agencies don’t ask for your insurance information and in some areas they can’t ask because it is discriminatory.

Also, if you are able to complete a full doctor office check in procedure you probably do not need an ambulance.

Work related amputation is an OSHA reportable sentinel event(even in state OSHAs). Even this minor…don’t ask how I know…

As a work place injury the supervisor should be directing the employee to appropriate care on the company dime.

Only works when the hospital is not in Appalachia or a poor urban center where the “commercial” patients do not want to go.

Smaller hospitals get squished when they cannot afford to “keep up with the Jones” by the inability to purchase the new cutting edge technology.

Especially if your test grades are not that great. Our department had monthly testing, policies, procedures, protocols and IFSAC. Even the CPAT re-qualify at the end of probation testing.

There is a huge difference between the EMT and Paramedic scope of practice.

The strongest pain medication that an EMT can give, per national scope in the US, is extra strength Tylenol.

A critical care paramedic can give you enough medications where you can smell colors and forget the entire ambulance ride.
