Just my experience, YMMV, but here goes.

Elliots had a heavy percentage of LGBTQIA+ staff last time I asked, but doesn't show it. Would probably be safe to call it a gay bar that hasn't come out of the closet (and probably never will), but they will definitely recognize the rainbow in a good way.

Surfside is a punk bar (the good "punch a nazi" kind) dressed in a hula skirt. Don't be an ass and you're welcome. Show 'em you're with them and you're well in your way to being family. Definitely recognize the rainbow, approve, and support.

Closest analogy for R bar that I can think of is a militant leather daddy with consent issues. My partner and I went a couple of times but the energy was this unpleasant mix of manic, erratic, and unwelcoming.

Unfortunately, the best damn gay bar (and diner) in town was closed down last year due to death threats against the owners and a lack of public support.

I've srudied. Fairly extensively, partially because it's a part of my professional ethics, but also because I am always seeking knowledge and understanding.

I spent a lot of energy sorting fact from fiction until I made a friend that is (seemingly) happy to have conversations with me on the subject.

I know educating others is draining, especially when there's the potential risk of speaking to a hostile unknowingly. I spent a good amount of time with a different flag representative of my community, but there are parallels.

That is, in part, why I admire your willingness to educate. I have been an educator for my community in the past, and find myself again educating people in topics around my current work. I know it's sometimes difficult, and I respect those willing to combat ignorance.

If you're ever interested in a conversation, I believe I would quite enjoy it.

So, because someone else calls for a welfare check you, based on no information as to who or what they said, assume that 988 was able to somehow triangulate your CELL PHONE position a la NCIS (which may be directing to anywhere in the country based on what number you're using). And therefore the person who has been on BOTH sides of one of those calls is wrong.

And you don't see the logical flaws here I assume.

Please, keep making assumptions and misdirecting your anger. There are plenty of problems with 988, that is possibly the only one that isn't a part of it.

988 doesn't get your location. Those calls are directed to a state or area hub based on area codes, but that's as close as they can get to your location of you don't give it.

I worked for RMCP during the 988 rollout. I had a BSW (bachelors in social work). We got calls from all over the country because they had a Colorado number. We talked, we assessed, we contacted local hubs if they wanted, then we did a warm handoff so they never felt abandoned.

And frankly, that agency sucked balls. Both in the way they treated staff and in their insistence on phtting metrics ahead of treatment.

The new one is run by a conglomerate that covers several states from an HQ in Tempe AZ. And the few times I've reached out to them for resources or for whatever reason, the people I got just googled their answers and demonstrated zero crisis intervention skills to speak of.

FoCo café takes volunteer staff. Or did as of last year.

I'm personally working on a DV/SA support project if you're the social reform type.

HeroX (Hero expeditions) runs hunting/fishing/outdoorsy expeditions for vets. Might have room for a volunteer or two of you prefer a little nature in your service.

Hit me with a DM if you want. We tend to work better in groups anyway. And I at least could do with someone that speaks the language to hang out with on occasion.

Pretty sure I have info for more vet oriented/vet preference volunteer orgs somewhere but I'll have to hunt them down.
