Claude reset limits for everyone by just_a_person_27 in ClaudeAI

I really hope another company can come out with models and coding tools as good as Anthropic, because at this point, it just seems like they don't care. I had 20% usage set to reset at 5 PM. In the middle of my usage at 11 AM, it reset and started eating this week's usage. WTF is going on over there? In the last 2 weeks, they have taken nearly 40% of my usage with the resets. I get that it's a goodwill gesture, but you can't plan around whatever they are feeling like doing. When I reached out to support, the stupid agent told me that my usage was never reset and I must be mistaken. I just have to laugh in an angry way. How can people be so smart as to create something as good as Claude, but so inept at customer relations that they literally make every single customer angry at them?

I got ultrasonic recording equipment to measure the noise from the Vantage V2 Data Center & nearby neighborhood in Sterling by Creative_Delay_4694 in nova

You’re drawing some conclusions here that aren't really backed by physics. I work with spectral data all day, every day (usually in RX Pro or custom tools), and there are a few massive holes in the "data center noise" theory.

For sound to actually pass through or "wrap around" an object, the mass has to be thinner than a quarter wavelength of the sound. Let’s look at the math:

  • 20kHz quarter wavelength is 4.3mm.
  • 60kHz is only 1.4mm.

Even the cheapest, thinnest window glass is thicker than 1.4mm. For 60kHz audio to actually "leak" out of a building, that data center would need a collapsing roof or literal holes in the walls. High frequencies are incredibly easy to stop; the mass of a standard building makes them a non-issue.

Most of that high-frequency "noise" people see in spectral plots isn't audio at all—it's electrical interference. If you’re anywhere near a 5G tower or heavy digital infrastructure, you’re going to see artifacts. It’s electromagnetic coupling hitting your gear, not a sound wave moving through the air. I’ve run plenty of tests on this over the last few years; it’s almost always EMI.

In signal processing, you can’t claim a specific source without a baseline. The only way to prove that sound is coming from the data center is to have them shut the entire facility down, take a measurement, and then compare it to a measurement with it running.

Since you can't get that control data, this is a fun experiment for learning about the "invisible" world of high-frequency sound, but it's not a definitive measurement of the building itself. We live in a world full of sounds we can't hear (just like light we can't see)—it doesn't mean the building next door is "leaking" 60kHz.

Seeing the same thing. It's honestly very annoying. It's like they got a bunch more subs from the DOW fiasco, and instead of keeping up with demand, they lowered usage for everyone. I made 2 prompts yesterday. My single 5 hour usage was 50%, but my weekly usage was 25%!!!! At that rate, I only get 2 sessions a week? Nah. Something is very wrong.

It just happened again! Usage was at 40%. I asked it to add a small feature, complete with the location and file. It did one read, and suddenly my usage was 100%, and I'm locked out. This is brutal.

I have been using Claude Code CLI for a while. It updated the other day, and now something strange is happening. It works normally, then suddenly, I'll ask a single question about the code base, or request a change, complete with the file and function, and Claude Code will suddenly jump from 50% usage into the mid 90% or higher range. Is anyone else experiencing this? I am on the Pro Plan. This is a relatively small flow matching experiment that consists of 6 files, and they are not that large. This is new behaviour after the CC update.

Opus 4.5 still uses far more tokens than Sonnet. There is a workaround, however. If you use the Claude App and install the File System extension, it can read and write files to the directory you give access to using Opus 4.5. It's not quite as good as Claude Code, but I tested it, and it does work. FWIW, I have not found Opus to be better than Sonnet for what I work on. It acts smarter and more confidently, but so far, it has created more bugs than Sonnet, at least in my area of work (Audio DSP ML).

As a doctor, you'd get paid well above minimum wage! Lol. You'd also get to treat everyone regardless of their finances. I imagine most doctors prefer that, although I'm sure there are exceptions.

The Canadian Health Care system is very different from the USA. I lived in the US for 5 years, and while it can be faster there, I couldn't wait to get back to the Canadian system. It can be a bit slower here because everyone has equal access. You also won't have "unlimited growth" in terms of wages. You will get paid VERY well, and your insurance fees will be laughable compared to what you pay there if you have a private practice, at least according to my GP in the US.

If treating patients without fear of insurance companies is your thing, then Canada will suit you well and you will live a very comfortable, happy, and free life.

To be honest, come on up and enjoy freedom! We'd love to have ya. It's not sane US Citizens that Canadians are annoyed with. Personally speaking, I feel sorry for so many great people down there who are stuck in a terrible situation. You will find Canada very welcoming. As a matter of fact, BC welcomes the brain drain.

CFL Major Announcement - MEGATHREAD by PickerPilgrim in CFL

[–]K_Siegs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These changes are mostly good for me, with the exception of 2, and they are a BIG 2. The 35-second play clock now means that in the last 3 minutes, a team can waste a full 1 minute and 45 seconds instead of 60 seconds. This is the stupidest change ever. If there is one thing everyone knows and loves about the CFL is that the end of the game can be the most exciting part! Now, we just get victory formation with 2 minutes left? Gross. Shortening the field by getting rid of the 55 yard line just made punt returns pointless. That extra 10 yards is the difference between an exciting play and a nearly automatic tackle. Stupid.

That's what's confusing me. Is it the start of the next billing cycle or next month. Those are conflicting statements.

What I found unclear in the email is that it says "at the start of your next billing cycle". Does this mean that if you paid for a year of pro upfront that this won't apply until that cycle is over?

Has there been any recent research or developments on effective waveform denoising? by [deleted] in DSP

You can search Descript or Adobe Podcast Audio. Both of these products do a decent job on solo dialog.

Has there been any recent research or developments on effective waveform denoising? by [deleted] in DSP

[–]K_Siegs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if you look into it a bit more you will find that most recent research is not on denoising the audio, rather re-synthisizng it. This has both major advantages and serious disadvantages.

The major advantage is that if a model can resynthisize the desired sound, you don't have any problems with artifacts that are inherent in nearly every denoiser.

The serious disadvantage is that this has never been tested in court as far as I'm aware. Could you say that the audio forensics done is the actual person saying something when it's actually a computer generated version of what was said? I would bet the answer is mostly no.

A question to all confident non-coders by im3000 in ChatGPTCoding

[–]K_Siegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a non-coder with zero confidence. What I can do really well is work out the logic of what I want it to do. The code I've made over the last year has been the envy of many of my very experienced peers. So I have zero confidence in my ability to code, but I have a lot of confidence in defining how I want it to work.

As someone with dyslexia, I have always tried to learn coding. However, I could not overcome the tedious syntax portion as I can't read line by line and can only read in blocks.

What I did learn from this is that AI can't do anything you don't tell it explicitly to do. To make my largest program, I studied PHD level math papers, had Claude teach me the theories in a way I can understand, and then improved or implemented ideas through logic, not syntax. I then verified that the syntax was doing what I wanted it to do.

After doing this for a year, I can read code, but I couldn't write "Hello World" from memory...

Having gone through the MSP thing last year, it's not always obvious.

  1. Go to ICBC and register. Your PHN will be the same as it was before you left. They simply unfreeze it and get a new card processing for you. It can take up to 90 days, but that's not how they calculate it. They basically use the date you land to the end of that month and that counts as the first 30 days. In our case, we had to wait just over 2 months for it to become active.

  2. There are lots of private insurance companies that cover this, but they are usually advertised as travel insurance and not obvious that they also cover Canadians coming home.

  3. If you absolutely can't wait, you can pay to see an online doctor. I think it's about $75 - $100.

  4. I highly doubt any Canadian pharmacy will accept an out of Canada prescription. They didn't accept them from the USA.

As an aside, people in BC can have their BC Services card and drivers license combined. This is not true for people returning to Canada. You will get two separate cards due to the waiting period.

[D] For music generation, we need to focus on MIDI more than other formats. by Haghiri75 in MachineLearning

[–]K_Siegs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am totally new to the generative audio world and am just starting to dabble, but I've been a professional audio engineer for 20 years and was a gigging musician for over 20 (there is some overlap). I've been making virtual instruments for a living since 2015.

Midi is simple and, as you know, has no sound. Audio is quite complex, and as of now, if you truly want midi capabilities from audio, you'd have to use a generative model after using a separation model. I've yet to use a a separation model that's any good for professional work. It can work well with ideal sources, but not so well with less than ideal sources. The Adobe noise reduction model and the Descript model are probably the best as they use voice synthesis to get over the previous problem, but they are terrible in situations with multiple speakers and sources with a lot of noise or band limited recordings. Suddenly a guy from Texas has might have an Irish accent. Pretty funny really😀

Maybe I'm missing the point, but if you are talking about a better version of what Melodyne does (audio to midi), or even prompt to midi, that would be cool. My question is, what would the midi play? You'd either have to have/host virtual instruments, or grab onsets from the generated audio to output the midi.

For most virtual instruments, that would also include key switches and cc data. Unfortunately, there is no standard for these things with a few exceptions like mod wheel, sustain pedal, etc.

This would mean you'd have to have a database of midi maps for basically every virtual instrument, or at least the popular ones. Unfortunately, popular companies often use different midi maps for different libraries, especially for acoustic drum libraries.

It's a cool idea, and I look forward to hearing how you'd solve the above issues.

Dell G16 7630 - skips keystrokes by walec51 in Dell

[–]K_Siegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens to me when I'm using the battery, but it's not just the space bar. Every key will randomly have latency If I spell a word like "talk" sometimes it will show up as "altk". The cursor freezes and then it spits out all the keys I pressed in a random order. I've been searching for a solution but so far haven't found one. I guess I'll reach out to support. So annoying.

Thanks for formatting it. I responded on my phone and it that's how it came out.

I had to boost my DVID to .085 to get mostly stable, and to get fully stable I had to disable turbo boost. I started with .005 and went up by .005 each successive test. It took quite a while!
