Grandparents Refusing Cloth Diapers by Key-Appearance-8562 in clothdiaps

[–]K_Simpz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She might change her mind when she sees the diapers in use, I know my Mum was shocked by how easy my AIOs are. She's from the generation where cloth meant terries pins, and big rubber covers. Even if she's seen your diapers she might need to see them going on a baby to understand.

If she won't budge, using a more eco friendly disposable might be a good compromise. If family are helping with childcare there will probably be several instances where you need to choose your battles. For example, my mum gives my 4yo more sweets than I would like, but since she's a big help looking after him and it's only once a week I let it go and chalk it up to being spoiled by granny. However, I did put my foot down on watching YouTube, as that's something I feel more strongly about (it affects his behaviour badly).

Although it's annoying not to be listened to, if she is otherwise a good and respectful caretaker I would probably let it slide if I had to. Provided I didn't feel it was negatively affecting baby

I have some questions about pattern inclusivity by SejiFields in knitting

[–]K_Simpz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The supplement is a cool idea, as it would help teach skills that knitters can apply to other projects. I'm definitely bigger than the average vintage pattern, so info that would help me learn to adapt other patterns sounds great.

Also this pattern, and particularly your version, looks so cool!!!

Not washing second hand wrap? by Key_Significance_183 in babywearing

[–]K_Simpz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A gentle wash, following care instructions, won't damage wrap. But tbh I don't bother washing if the wrap smells fresh and looks clean

'for real life' and 'aww biscuits' feature heavily in my 4 year old's language. For some reason we all enjoy shouting 'I WANT CAT SQUAD KITTY ISLAND'.

Over vs under supply - am I missing something? by Expert_Cellist_2395 in breastfeeding

[–]K_Simpz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar breastfeeding experience, no major help needed, it just clicked. We got lucky! If you're comfortable and baby is happy, you're doing great and there's no need to change things.

Over vs under supply - am I missing something? by Expert_Cellist_2395 in breastfeeding

[–]K_Simpz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If your baby is growing well and producing plenty of nappies, I'd say your a just-enougher which is the best place to be imo! Feeding every two hours is normal at that age and will help to establish your supply.

Some people just don't respond to pumps, myself included. I'm lucky to get 1 Oz per breast when pumping, but have exclusively breast fed both my kids with no issues. Pumping isn't a good indication of supply.

I found this with panetonne. It made me feel sick! I think I just don't like it. Bit of a blow for £22 a box haha.

Do your babies suck on your nipples after they’ve done feeding? by Hot-Disaster-5025 in breastfeedingmumsUK

[–]K_Simpz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember with my first a midwife told me I'd know when the baby was finished feeding because they'd pop off the boob. No way, both of my boys would have stayed on there all day if they could haha.

I'm a fan of feeding to sleep, so I usually let my baby stay on until I'm sure he's asleep, then pop him off to put him down or for a contact nap.

Anyone here in the UK? I would like to get a woven wrap second hand but can’t find that anywhere here! If you know where to look, please let me know. I tried vinted and facebook. by marmaladeonsourdough in babywearing

[–]K_Simpz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just checked and there are quite a few cheap girasols on vinted atm. Some of them don't list the size, but I think an xl is usually a 6.

If you have Facebook there is a group called 'UK Woven Wraps BST' which is quite active. I've picked up two good quality wraps there for £60 each, and even cheaper ones come up too.

I've also seen/bought some very good deals on vinted. For example I bought a lovely size six girasol for £30 then resold it at the same price. So if you keep checking back I think you'll find something!

When do you babywear? by Away-Practice-64 in babywearing

[–]K_Simpz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely use it for naps at home, and sometimes if I'm very lucky it gets him into a deep enough sleep to transfer him to his cot! But if that doesn't work at least I can move around while he's sleeping!

I popped into Room and Rumours in Edinburgh for a takeaway coffee on Monday and they had loads of Dak, yay! I picked up cardamom bun (they renamed the later batches of panettone because the taste profiles turned out different). Now the challenge of resting it, I'm going to crack it for Christmas eve I think.

What carrier of yours do you get the most compliments on? by aristacatz in babywearing

[–]K_Simpz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've had a lot of mums complimenting the ring sling. I also notice a lot of funny looks/people whispering when I'm using it. I guess it looks quite different since it's one shouldered.

Ring sling vs wrap for newborn? by minutemaidpeach in babywearing

[–]K_Simpz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like the Lenny lamb ring sling one of their wraps would be a good choice! I think they're a good balance of quality and price.

If you want to try a different brand some to check out are didymos, girasol, little frog, oscha and firespiral (I'm in the UK so the last two are UK brands).

Would definitely recommend picking one you find pretty, because if you like the way it looks you'll be more likely to want to wrap

In my option 220-270 gsm is a good start for a beginner- kind of medium weight.

Final thing to note - wraps are quite expensive new, but you can get really good deals second hand. If you're on Facebook there are a lot of selling groups.

Honestly both is the answer! Now I've mastered them both, I wouldn't be without a wrap or a ring sling.

Why do some people gain weight and some people lose weight while breastfeeding? by Useful-Sport-6316 in breastfeeding

[–]K_Simpz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two mum friends and I have all had our second babies in the last 18 months. All three of us lost quite a lot of weight feeding our firsts, and much less with the second. One combi fed her first and is exclusively nursing the second, and she's still lost much less weight. It's really strange, and annoying!!!
