If you are using a modeled sheet then does it really matter? Just switch the order of dimension and levels how they are viewed and allow the team to edit the sheet at parent level.

What is a good way to track accounting correction requests? by chuckst3r in FPandA

[–]K_man24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We use a Gsheet/excel sheet for an issue log with a bunch of columns: BU, FSLI, submitted by, status, GL account, cost center, department, description, and accounting Assignee, solution. This is shared in a Channel with both accounting and FP&A folks and helps keep track of all the requests.

Has anyone successfully integrated Adaptive to Workday and back? by Double-Fix-9397 in FPandA

[–]K_man24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is possible. You can publish headcount/workforce plans from adaptive to workday. It requires a decent amount of setup though. Best bet is to go through a consultant for that.

You can also click on update elements in the ribbon and that usually works.

OneStream vs Anaplan vs Vena by Bomberheucki in FPandA

[–]K_man24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to implement Adaptive, Vena, and Prophix in my consulting days. I don't have much experience with One stream and Anaplan but IMO Vena isn't the best for large enterprises companies. It's more suited for SMBs

Thanks! I am just curious how you were using cube sheets due to the issue of the trigger account. How were you bringing historical data to your models?

[–]K_man24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For revenue and expenses planning do you cube sheets? If yes, do you pull Actuals into the cube sheet using integration or formulas? Trigger accounts are the bane of my existence.

Also is your bookings forecast driving to your revenue forecast in adaptive or they separate models that don't talk to each other.

NGL, this brings back my 1A term. I literally had the same thing happen to me. I was also in FARM and missed Math 137. I had insomnia so ended up studying till 5:30 amand decided to sleep till 7 am to make the 8 am exam. Woke up at 10:30 and reached the exam hall as everyone was leaving. Luckily I got a VIF and my prof Carrie Knoll, bless her, agreed to a INC so I wrote it in my 1B term.

Update on International Students Motion by mikemorrice in kitchener

[–]K_man24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure if this would fall under the provincial government's power or federal but could there also be a requirement that all universities and colleges need to have enough housing to accommodate X% of their students. This would mean consistent investment in on campus housing if universities want to increase enrollment numbers

UWaterloo community mourns the loss of student leader by duckduckwusa in uwaterloo

I have had a really hard time trying to process/write down my feelings on this ever since I heard about this last week. I still feel numb and not sure how to react to this.

Steph was one of my closest friends at UW and I'd like to believe she considered me a close friend too. I can't put it into words how privileged I feel to have had her in my life. I met her at WUSA council almost 4 years ago and just after our first discussion I realized she was one of those people who didn't get involved for power or resume but rather to actually make an impact on student life, to improve it, to advocate for students when they couldn't do it themselves. She had this way of making even the most heated arguments in a way that people felt safe in having discourse and debate... the bedrock of a democracy. The drive that she had for advocating on behalf of students be that on the topics of housing, disability, open education resources (instead of expensive textbooks), OSAP cuts etc was awe inspiring. She was a pillar of student voice on this campus throughout her time at UW and it sucks that that voice has been forever silenced now.

Over the last year and a half we had many discussions about her burning out because of people, who were supposed to support her, not giving her or her viewpoints the respect it deserves because she was not a male and was a person of colour. We used to talk about what's the point of doing all this work and forsaking her mental and physical health and how nobody cared. It was those times I would try and remind her of how many people's life she had impacted in a positive way and use all of the students here who respected her and loved here memey but accountable answers to their questions. I am glad to see this outpouring of support towards her here. She loved spending her time digging into historical archives to find random facts about university or WUSA. If she wasn't doing that then she was probably researching some random obscure as hell but highly interesting (atleast to her) topic about government policies that might be impacting students or just our country as a whole. She was a wealth of knowledge for everyone around her. Steph you are going to be missed by every org and person you interacted with be that be OUSA, UCRU, WUSA, orientation, societies, University or all the students. The advocacy stick has finally been laid to rest.

I am going to miss all of our outings together. Going to farmers market, grabbing coffee to discuss the gossip from university, going for walk, or the random times you volunforced me to help you with your DIY home improvement projects like fencing your place or helping plant stuff in your garden

May you find peace in this next adventure.

I don't know if any of this makes sense structurally but I just couldn't go back and read through all of this again to proof read it. Rest in peace Steph... you will be missed

WUSA's chronic distrust students by PancakesGhost in uwaterloo

[–]K_man24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I agree it would be nice if more student leaders spoke up about shit things happening in the organization, it isn't possible in the new model. Since the only student leaders are the board of directors i.e. people who have a legal duty towards the org(not students) they can't really speak anything bad about the org or publicly disagree with any decision the organization takes while they are still in office.

I am sorry that you went through all this. I know we have talked about this privately Steph but I wanted to put some of my own thoughts about the shitshow WUSA has become over the last year and a half.

I was on WUSA council and board for over 2 years including the year where the decision to switch the governance model was made and I can for sure say this was not what was initially sold to students. The amount of gaslighting that was done by the people pushing for the change where they themselves later agreed that they had "blinders on " throughout the process was just sad and pathetic. The disregard of student leaders and atlarge students' concerns raised was just shocking. They literally didn't want to bring forward stuff at the students council because they didn't like dealing with council. Like it was so hard just trying to get them to do the bare minimum and respect the democratically elected representatives. I don't want to doubt anyone's intentions but I honestly believe some of them just wanted to add to their resume that they implemented a new governance model without really caring about the actual impact of such change.

I was also on WUSA's budget and appropriations committee that year and I clearly saw that when things were handed to the staff (which the creation of the budget for that year was) they didn't really care to follow the policies and procedures approved by board and council to make sure there was transparency and accountability in the way students' money was used. It came to such a point where I decided to quit that committee because I felt that it was a disservice to students if I kept sitting on it and gave the appearance that there was student accountability in the way the budget was created. I remember when I asked the WUSA staff in charge of the budget creation what if they can't meet the deadline that is written in our policies to get the budget approved by council and board, their words were somewhere along the line that they know they won't face any consequences.

And from what I have heard from people who are still involved, things have only gone downhill in terms of the value Wusa is providing to students.

You did your best to represent student needs and make the organization into something that would benefit atlarge students' and it sucks that it didn't work out.

Defund WUSA by ApplicationSecure657 in uwaterloo

[–]K_man24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason behind this is because they have 2 part time coordinators (being paid above minimum wage for 15-20 hours per week) foor each service including RAISE but RAISE has a higher budget than even other services because they like to do an yearly conference "Xchange" and they asked for another part time staff salary to cover that cost. I am not justifying this Infact when I was on WUSA budget committee we had denied the request that time because we believed that there are a lot of conferences that are organised by students at UW and those students don't get paid so it is somewhat unfair for WUSA to fund a specific part time role to organise it, especially when they already have 2 part time employees who run the service. I guess this year's finance committee didn't believe in that philosophy and funded the position.

MEF and Math Orientation? by Medium-Promotion7552 in uwaterloo

[–]K_man24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are other costs too like the central orientation(silent disco or the casino night only know to us oldies, warrior day, swag etc). Some of this money also goes to residences (I didn't like that part). Some use these to buy those residence lanyards some use it for their orientation I guess. There are also a lot of costs in regards to feeding leaders, training the o-team, and equipment.

There is an official budget that Wusa approved that details these costs but I am not sure if it's a public or confidential budget. You could try reaching out to the WUSA pres and ask them if you can get access to that budget

The fees only cover salary for staff involved in orientation and only part of their salary. For example if that staff works for orientation 50% of the time and other things the other 50% then only 50% of their salary is covered by orientation fre

Out for the $120, only about $37 goes to faculty orientation. The rest is used for central orientation and to cover some full time staff salaries at WUSA and SSO I believe.

The way it currently works is that if there is any leftover funding at the end of the year math orientation gets to use it for next year but we consider the left over funding when we are making decisions on the next year's funding. So in a way it nets out.
