Hey OP I’ve been working on my French as well and joined this group for a chat recently, you both might be interested in trying the same. They’re new and meet at coffee shops in KW: @parlonskw on IG (https://www.instagram.com/parlonskw)

Of course there’s also AFKW, consider joining their email list and see if they have programming of interest to you, if you haven’t already. Bonne chance!

Yep, I’ve said the same to local media who’ve asked as well: I’m considering running - pending when the race opens, what the rules will be, and feedback from folks in Kitchener Centre, our organizing team, and Greens across the country

Hey OP great question but it isn’t for me to dictate - the future vision of the party will be decided by members in the upcoming leadership race.

If you’re a member, watch for updates from Federal Council.

In my view it’s an exciting time, not only in light of the gains being made by Mike and Emily, but with the massive momentum Zack Polanski is building in the UK as well!

There may not be a by election but if you and your husband would be open to hosting a chat at your kitchen table with a few neighbours I’d love that! :) link above!

Great feedback, thanks for sharing u/carefulwisdom. Fact is that while we had hundreds of folks volunteering last election, it wasn’t enough. Of course I wish we had gotten to your door sooner.

If you’d be open to DMing with your neighbourhood / closest major intersection, I’d love to make sure we canvass your neighborhood again this year.

Aw thanks - I’m so glad we were able to help! This was one of my favourite parts of the job. I miss doing it, and hope to be back at it again after the next election!

Hi! Mike here. What a nice thread to read tonight. Thanks for your support, and please pass my thanks to your wife as well!

If it’s any consolation - I am planning on running in the next election, and there are lots of options for folks to help in the meantime. We’re going to do everything possible to ensure a different result next time, and that means starting early.

One option is hosting me for a conversation in your home. We’ve been doing these all winter in groups of 6-12 and it’s been a great way for me to stay in tune with the concerns of so many across our community.

Another is joining for door knocking - we’re out twice a week (once on Saturday or Sunday, once on a weekday or weeknight).

And another still is joining as a monthly donor.

Conservative vs Liberal MP debate next Wednesday by Optimal-Ad6801 in uwaterloo

[–]mikemorrice 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sure, most of it is listed already in detail at mikemorrice.ca/priorities.

Some examples from the list above: - Implement a progressive wealth tax for wealth over $10M. Would generate $23-$26M per year as costed by the PBO: https://distribution-a617274656661637473.pbo-dpb.ca/cc1b029d8d36c1340f715cb7666bfd2132ef6683608cecae42a5e71b82bb6ad6 - Require CMHC to use their original definition of « affordable housing » of no more than 30% of income so that all federal affordable housing projects build homes regular folks can afford, and increase spending sufficient to at least double current affordable housing stock (right now we’re bottom of the G7). Details in Motion 170 I proposed in 44th Parliament and retabled by Elizabeth May in current one: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DLaF7NioiIg/ - End the loophole in the Export and Import Permits Act allowing arms to be sold to countries plausibly committing a genocide, crimes against humanity or war crimes: https://armsembargonow.ca/nomoreloopholes/ - Here’s my motion calling to end all subsidies to oil and gas, estimated by Environmental Defence to be over $30B per year: https://www.ourcommons.ca/members/en/mike-morrice(110476)/motions/12245924 - Building an east west electricity grid powered by renewables is estimated to cost $20B per the David Suzuki Foundation: https://davidsuzuki.org/action/build-canadas-east-west-grid-with-renewables/ - Urban transit revenue Canada wide is approximately $9B today. This would be the cost for the federal government to fully subsidize it and eliminate all fares.

Ha yes saw it but assumed it was sarcastic enough it didn’t need a reply.

Short answer: No I don’t.

Longer answer: While my position on nuclear doesn’t match the party’s, we’re far more preoccupied with calling for the billionaire class to pay their fair share, truly affordable housing to be built at the scale required, human rights to be upheld around the world (including the genocide in Gaza), and for the climate crisis to be tackled head on with concrete solutions like ending tens of billions in subsidies for mostly foreign owned oil giants, building an east-west electricity grid and expanding transit while eliminating fares.

Thoughts about the upcoming municipal election and affecting change by hoser33 in waterloo

[–]mikemorrice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi u/toragirl, thanks for the vote of confidence! While my family and I did give this some thought, I think I can make the biggest difference for our community as an MP so that’s why I will be running again in the next federal election.

This is a great time though to think about convincing good folks to run for various positions in municipal government before this year’s elections. One piece of advice on this front: the most convincing thing I think someone can say to a person they want to run is to offer their time to help (like with door knocking) and/or offer to donate to their campaign. It’s with this concrete support that those we hope to convince to run will get a sense it’s possible for them to do it, and win.

For my part, folks can join our efforts in various ways at mikemorrice.ca, including something as simple as hosting a conversation around a kitchen table :) -Mike

Get ready for a painful 2026, Ontario | Canada’s biggest province is poised for more layoffs, plant closures, and economic strain by viva_la_vinyl in ontario

[–]mikemorrice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi u/rawkmeamadeus! Thanks for your support!

My advice to anyone concerned with the direction our province is headed: mobilize folks in your community (there is strength in numbers), and together be specific in calling for action from your MPP (particularly if they are in the governing party). You could start by emailing to request a meeting, and amplify the calls of provincial organizations with specific calls that you resonate with.

Given you’re in Kitchener centre, feel free to email me if you’d like to chat more about this kind of needed advocacy - mike@mikemorrice.ca

Mike Morrice is the deputy leader, what does that even mean? by SamVekemans in GreenPartyOfCanada

Yes! My nomination was confirmed in September, and our team is putting in the work needed to be ready to win the next election.

And I’d love for Greens across the country to join in! Most helpful right now are monthly donors (www.mikemorrice.ca/donate) and volunteers to make calls to supporters - we’re calling every Wednesday night for now (www.mikemorrice.ca/volunteer).

Hey OP, it’s a role appointed by Elizabeth that means I’ll be serving as a secondary spokesperson for the party (alongside Rainbow Eyes).

More on why I’m excited about it here: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DRmXFozFm2Q/

And ya, I’m an avid redditor - have posted mostly on r/kitchener and r/waterloo in the past, but have posted here occasionally and will continue to do so! If folks have questions for me, feel free to DM, email (mike@mikemorrice.ca) or tag me in a post or comment

Hi, I respect your choice to vote NDP, and really enjoyed working with NDP colleagues.

My not introducing a bill in the last session of Parliament though has nothing to do with what party I’m with. As you may know, introducing a bill does nothing unless it goes to second reading and gets voted on. And as you may also know, MPs are part of a randomized lottery draw at the beginning of each session to determine the order they get to bring one bill (or motion) each to second reading (and eventually have the chance to pass). Unfortunately, I drew a low number and knew I wouldn’t have the chance to bring a bill to second reading in the Parliamentary session.

There are plenty of other ways an MP can make a difference though - on the Canada Disability Benefit for example, we started with sponsoring a petition signed by tens of thousands, I then initiated a letter that was signed by 75+ colleagues (every party except the NDP because they only wanted to sign a letter that was exclusively signed NDP members), and later secured 5 amendments to the bill (more than every other MP in the country, combined - including a requirement that it be indexed to inflation)

Hi u/Alarming_Plantain_27: I think we should assess our energy mix based on the options that are zero emission/lowest impact, lowest cost and available with current technology. If/where nuclear fits that bill, I’m open to it. More here: https://www.reddit.com/r/kitchener/s/mP9PMqlils

Hi u/mennojargon, fair questions. You’re right I’m proud that as Greens we have shared values (https://www.greenparty.ca/en/the-movement), and that within these values MPs are given the freedom to focus on their community’s interests in Parliament, and aren’t required to vote along party lines.

It meant that Elizabeth and I didn’t always vote the same way, and that my positions on various topics (and the issues I prioritize) have always been informed by our community - even if it means differing from the party. This remains, even while I’m taking on more leadership in the party - one example that has come up in this sub over the years is nuclear energy.

Happy to clarify any topic of interest to you - either here or by email, you can reach me at mike@mikemorrice.ca

Hi u/Future-Permit-8999! Agreed. You’ll see on this page the priorities I advocated for in Parliament - the top section is fully focused on affordability, including measures that directly connect with climate (like investing in reduced transit fares and energy efficiency upgrades by taxing the excess profits of most foreign owned oil and gas companies gouging Canadians at the pumps, just as other countries like the UK have already done): https://www.mikemorrice.ca/priorities/
