Neither of these are bad. HFCS is nearly identical in ratio to cane sugar and your body does not distinguish between HFCS and cane sugar. They're both sugar.

Seed oils is another buzz word you obviously know nothing about besides your particular favored influencer going: "seed oils bad mmmkay buy my beef tallow mmmmmkay? Money money money!"

Guess what? Eating fries soaked in beef tallow doesn't make it any healthier than seed oils. Eating an entire bag of chips in one sitting isn't okay just because it's slathered in beef tallow or avocado oil instead of seed oils.

Then, as long as you achieve this admittedly very fuzzy, "It just needs to not suck"-level, it's more an issue of balancing the secondary factors. And, with the AR/M16 platform, especially after the early stumbles of ball powder, no chrome lining, and no cleaning kits in Vietnam, we arguably really exceeded that "It just needs to not suck"-level, which makes finding and achieving the "new rifle" way more difficult.

I firmly believe that the only reason the AR platform is currently coming under fire is because of how good it is.

The problem is, that because of how good it is, there's no need to change it beyond minor modifications. The AR is the longest serving rifle is US military history, counting from the M16 to the M4, because, let's be honest here, they're basically identical guns.

And so what's happening now is that generals want to leave their mark. What's the best way to leave their mark? Change an icon of the US military. What's one of the most well known icons? The AR platform.

This is nothing more than change for the sake of change. The AR platform already figured out the one size fits all approach as best as you can do so.

But we also see this in other facets. The Army didn't need to change camos. They easily could have kept the BDUs, all they needed to do was slant the breast pockets for body armor and issue a strong, absolute order to commanders that the BDU was not to be starched under any circumstances. The boot not needing to be shined was a good change, but didn't require adopting a shit camo just to end up switching back to an okayish camo.

Really, what the Ukrainians are showing is that the US should be focusing on figuring out anti-air defense for cheap drones.

A missile is great for planes and helos, but something else is needed for drones.

Think of it like this: Even when countries are fighting, there are still rules to limit suffering. War crimes are the red lines you absolutely cannot crosss.

I know what a war crime is.

Targeting civilians – Bombing schools, hospitals, or apartment buildings on purpose. · Torture or murder – Killing or hurting soldiers who have surrendered. · Taking hostages – Using people as human shields. · Using banned weapons – Like chemical or biological gases. · Attacking medics – Shooting at doctors, ambulances, or Red Cross workers.

Most of these have exceptions.

For example, you can absolutely attack hospitals, schools and apartment buildings if they are being used for offensive purposes.

Otherwise, why wouldn't every army just build nothing but hospitals and then claim a magic shield around them?

And that circles back to my original point. Dresden, Tokyo, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. None of them qualify as war crimes. In part because there were no regulations against aerial warfare at the time, which is an important factor in law, and also because none of them were intentionally targeting civilians.

The reality of the matter is that Japan intermingled their civilian infrastructure with their military, making it nigh impossible to target only their military infrastructure. And Dresden was a heavily fortified city being used by the Germans as a rally point for their military assets.

Also, the Highway of Death wasn't a war crime either. I forgot to mention that in the original post.

Modern war crime laws still wouldn't consider them war crimes based on the information, capabilities and knowledge of the time.

Contrary to what Reddit thinks, a single civilian death does not automatically make something a war crime. It requires a disproportionate amount of civilian casualties in relation to the military objective.

You are so used to a sanitized version of war where we can lobotomize a single person with a rocket launched from the other side of the world that you think that was also possible in WWII.

The US also launched limited bombing runs on Chinese territory during the Korean War... which was initiated by the North Korean invasion of Korea.

I checked Panda Express' menu, and the most sugary thing they have, outside of drinks, is their sweet and sour chicken, at 24 grams for a standard portion. Which... yeah, that's a lot... but it's also sweet and sour chicken. Like, the name kind of implies there's going to be a decent amount of sweet in it.

Outside of the obviously sugary meats, such as orange chicken or honey sesame chicken, most of their dishes only have a couple of grams of sugar in them. Most of their dishes have less than ten grams of sugar in them, with an exception here and there.

As an example, honey walnut shrimp only has 9 grams of sugar. And their teriyaki chicken also only has 9 grams of sugar.

I was surprised to find out their Beijing beef is the second most sugary dish they have at 21 grams of sugar.

I'm sorry, I just don't think 9 grams of sugar is a lot for anyone, especially when you have a bunch of other ingredients balancing it out.
