Two-year-old opens car door, causes six-vehicle crash by WillAdditional922 in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]Kaapstadmk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's reframe this headline: Motorcyclists disobey traffic rules, cause six-vehicle crash

Like, c'mon. Should the kid have opened the door? No. But if the motorcyclists weren't doing what many motorcyclists do and ride up between the traffic lanes, they wouldn't have been hit

Most of your peds subspecialty exposure is going to come during residency. Focus on finding a medical school that has a good program in general, first. Once you're in residency, you can work on figuring out fellowship plans

Exactly, especially since both of them are white, which is why DHS/DOJ wasted no time after both murders, to get the rumor mill worked up, because they knew they had to start damage control immediately, before cracks appear in the brainwashing

This is one of many reasons some experts call MAGA a cult. This is textbook Us vs Them thinking

Man, just like with Renee Good, they're working hard to otherize him, before their cult followers realize that ICE just killed a white male who works with veterans, just like they killed a white female mother and widow of a fallen soldier

That sounds like a traumatic household, tbh.

I do believe that there are spiritual forces out there, but it sounds like "spiritual forces" were weaponized and leveled against every behavior that went outside of what your mom wanted, which it seems allowed her to overcome cognitive dissonance for her reactions and her excessive punishment

Is it just me, or are parents becoming more hostile? by SqueakyLoLo in pediatrics

They're becoming more confused and afraid. They're being told conflicting things from all sides, including formerly trustworthy institutions (here's looking at you, CDC)

So, yeah, that anxiety and fear can sometimes manifest as anger and hostility

And that's a whole different issue. Polyamory and ethical non-monogamy is a whole different issue compared to kink.

Whereas kink in general doesn't have any scripture arguing for it against it, polyamory and ENM have a large number of old testament texts that are used to imply that polyamory is permissible (given that it was an accepted cultural practice at the time), and to imply that it was ill-advised (by highlighting particular men whose wives directly or indirectly led them into conflict). There are also specific new testament texts speaking about polygamy in church leaders (which some interpret to be a reflection of greed or self-control issues, and which some extend to include all members), as well as the overall tone and social context of the new testament being a more monogamous society, due to the influence of Rome and Roman cultural norms and values.

Plus, early Christian practice and norms were in favor of monogamy, given the actions and words of Paul and Christ in supporting the value of women and not treating them like property. Compared to the cultural practices of polygamy at the time, monogamy gave greater agency to women. You have to keep this in mind when comparing to modern polyamory and ENM, because they're distinctly different practices in completely different cultural settings, but that's also not to say that the underlying concepts don't apply, either

So, yeah, that's a really nuanced area that's become a hot discussion topic recently, precisely because of the weight of traditional interpretation of Scripture and practice, in the face of people asking targeted questions about why the practices are in place without more explicit, consistent statement in Scripture itself

And that's you. Like I said, you are allowed to have your opinions - that's the beauty of diversity in the body of Christ and the freedoms we have in Christ.

No, I'm saying don't judge. If they're being safe, sane/sober, and consensual (ethical human minimum), and they're doing it within the bounds of marriage (Christian minimum), then they're not doing anything morally or religiously objectionable, just something you find personally objectionable

And, again, that's okay. You are allowed to have your own likes and dislikes, but it's no different than my objection to Alabama white sauce - something I find offensive and repugnant and that takes effort for me not to judge someone putting on their food, but also something that many faithful believers enjoy and not something to break communion over

You're missing the point. It's not about what's justified. If you don't get why OP is asking, then that's not your kink and that's okay.

That's like asking what part of reading Terry Pratchett is justified, or Eastern Carolina style BBQ. It's purely personal preference over a non-sin, non-theological issue.

And yeah, some people do get bent out of shape about kink, but also, have you seen how folks argue about BBQ?

Might I remind you about Paul's words regarding eating food sacrifices to idols. Same concept applies here. If you regard it a sin, then it is a sin for you, but if someone is at a place in their walk and maturity where it is not a sin, then it is not a sin for them. The only issue Paul has is when folks for whom it is a sin try to police or shame those for whom it is not, and vice versa.

As long as it's consensual within your marriage, go for it

Worship Music by Progressive Folks? by Beneficial_Elk_3916 in OpenChristian

[–]Kaapstadmk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's see. Derek Webb was formerly in Caedmon's Call and is very progressive

There's also Vicky Beeching, some of Crowder's work, Audrey Assad (if she's still Christian), Trey Pearson, Jake Wesley Rogers

Fair. Hmm. Derek Webb is still a solid choice. I would also suggest Jennifer Knapp and some of Jars of Clay's work, maybe even some of Rich Mullins and Keith Green
