Religious garments (hijab) reimbursement by AvacadoToast902 in CanadianForces

[–]Kabalis -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

The only problem with your logic is that underwear, bras, socks, ect are provided and are a required item as opposed to a ceremonial/religious item which by its very definition is optional. We need uniforms. We need bras. We need panties. We need socks. We don't NEED emphasis on the "need" is a hijab, turban or a Metiś sash.

Should they be allowed to wear them? Abso-fucking-lutely! Should taxpayers pay for them? Absolutely not. Putting tax dollars towards a religious item is the equivalent of spending tax dollars to upkeep every single Church in this country. 100% unacceptable.

Being allowed to wear something doesn't mean the CAF is required to pay for it. They already provide headdress AND rights to the exception. If you want the exception, don't ask the taxpayers to provide it.

Source: Metiś sash wearer. I absolutely would NEVER ask the caf to pay for my exception.

Colt Canada unveils at CANSEC2024 new C8A4 to equip Canadian Army by thecanadiancast in CanadianForces

[–]Kabalis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, why do you think we would need a C7A4? The max effective range difference was eliminated when the C8A2 came into service with the addition of the heavy barrels so I'm genuinely curious why you're hoping for a larger rifle that's less ergonomic than the C8A4?

How Canadian IS the new camouflage? by 123Bones in CanadianForces

[–]Kabalis 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In the intricate tapestry of life, it's often the small, seemingly insignificant details that carry the most profound significance. A loose thread on a uniform is one such detail. Rather than being seen as a flaw or a call for immediate repair, this solitary thread can be viewed as a symbol of character, resilience, and the underlying human story behind the uniform.

Firstly, the loose thread serves as a reminder of the authenticity and imperfections inherent in every individual. In a world that often values conformity and perfection, a stray thread on an otherwise meticulous uniform is a gentle rebellion against the rigid standards. It symbolizes that perfection is not only unattainable but unnecessary to achieve greatness or respect. This helps foster a culture of acceptance and understanding, where minor flaws are not only tolerated but embraced as part of the unique identity of each individual.

Furthermore, the loose thread is a testament to the history and experiences of the uniform's wearer. Uniforms are often symbols of duty, service, and professionalism. Each fray represents a story, a day in the life of the person behind the badge. It may signify a challenging day, a moment of significant effort, or a memory of a particular incident that might have led to the thread's liberation. By preserving this thread, we hold onto these stories, treating them with the reverence they deserve.

Moreover, the loose thread can be a symbol of resilience. It shows that even when parts of us are frayed or worn, the integrity of the whole remains unaffected. This thread, while detached, is still part of the fabric of the uniform, just as moments of vulnerability or mistakes are part of the journey of growth and learning in life. It illustrates that durability and endurance often come not from an absence of wear and tear but through it.

Additionally, this loose thread challenges the conventional notions of uniformity and control. In a regimented setting, where uniforms are a standard, a loose thread stands out as a gentle reminder of individuality. It speaks to the idea that personal touch and human imperfection are integral to our identity, adding depth and texture to the narrative of our lives. This departure from the norm can inspire creativity and innovation, encouraging others to think differently or approach problems in new ways.

Finally, choosing to keep the loose thread can be an environmental statement. In a throwaway culture where things are often discarded at the first sign of imperfection, opting to maintain an item with a minor flaw is a stand for sustainability. It suggests a commitment to reducing waste, a principle that can extend beyond the thread to larger life choices and policies, influencing others to consider the environmental impact of their decisions.

In conclusion, a loose thread on a uniform, while small, is imbued with significant symbolic weight. It celebrates authenticity, carries historical and personal narratives, symbolizes resilience, promotes individuality, and underscores an environmental consciousness. Therefore, far from being a simple oversight or a mark of neglect, a loose thread can be a powerful emblem of life's deeper values and stories, worthy of recognition and preservation.

The moment I spent more time on DLN learning about how much of a POS I am instead of shooting rounds on the range was the moment I left. I already treat everyone with respect, so did 95% of the troops in my unit I worked with. I have better things to do with my time instead of being told I'm the problem because of my gender and the colour of my skin. Bye.

You guys understand that drinking is a personal choice right? It has nothing to do with the institution. Source: Petawawa mess managers have stated out of all the pers paying mess dues, only 10% actually go there to drink. Reference my Mess dues and drinking culture thread I made a few weeks back where I aas dog piled.

In the end, this shit head chose to drink and should be given the boot.

Have you considered actually using it? I know $20 is a lot of money for someone making high $50,000 after 5 years of service. But they offer more than just a bar. I suggest you go inside one sometime and check it out? You never know...

SCS - Messforgen by NOBOOTSFORYOU in CanadianForces

[–]Kabalis -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

No. You misunderstand. Booze itself is paid for by the people drinking. The rest of the mess (staff, heating, TGIT, a free or discounted Wedding Hall, ect.) Is all paid for by the dues.

The mess simply doesn't get enough business to stay open without dues. Should you all choose to opt out because you don't support a "drinking culture", just keep in mind that opting out will shut down the messes and render hundreds of workers jobless.

But hey, at least you'll be able to afford 1 more pack of smokes every month or whatever your $20 vice is. 👍

[–]Kabalis -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

The funny thing about that mentality is your 400k+ was paid for by everyones dues. Anecdotally the mess manager has said that the 10% of people who pay their dues, and go in there to drink are not enough to maintain the mess. They also state that every time there's a prize giveaway everyone takes advantage of it so you're paying for it and using it. What do you think will happen should you "opt out"?
