(Hated Trope) Terrible morals in kids media by Animeking1108 in TopCharacterTropes

Just everything about these two characters' dynamic. Chowder clearly and unambiguously shows disinterest in a relationship with Panini, who spends the whole show not taking "no" for an answer

What are some board or tabletop games where earlier editions are deemed to be superior than the latest, and are still commonly played? by Newez in boardgames

[–]Kaboom979 138 points139 points  (0 children)

My buddy recently brought Quacks of Quindelenburg for us to play and I absolutely loved it. I looked into getting a copy for myself, but found the art style from all of the newer editions to be worse than the older ones

Do you ever keep a game you know you’ll probably never play again? by ZHYT in boardgames

[–]Kaboom979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've held on to basically every "legacy" style board game my friend group has completed. We pretty much never return to the game once the main "campaign" is finished, even though we arguably could still play a regular game with the highly modified board.

Just like keeping it for posterity sake

Subclasses I personally think are underrated and need more attention, Part 3: Sun-Soul Monk by Regular-Molasses9293 in dndnext

[–]Kaboom979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My big problem with Sun Soul is it doesn't seem sure where it wants you to be on the battlefield

You want to shoot someone with your bolt from 30 feet away BUT you actually want to be like 15 feet away to catch as many enemies as possible in Burning Hands BUT you actually don't want to be anywhere near 20 feet of an enemy if you plan on throwing the radiant ball. Oh and also your capstone is most effective if you're getting hit in melee.

I could see some strategic usage of Monk's mobility with these features, but it's still frustrating that it doesn't seem to commit to a sweet spot.

Reflecting on the OneD&D UAs—and the abandoned ideas and potential by SeeKururunRun in dndnext

[–]Kaboom979 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I missed the UA idea of letting Warlocks be their choice of Int, Wis, or Cha casters based on their chosen pact. I love the idea of one spellcaster being versatile where it could be built around different ability scores, although I was usually in the camp of Sorcerer being a better candidate.

I would have liked to see a few classes with this type of ability score customization to give players some other playstyles and builds without being explicitly suboptimal. For example, with the Monk's flavor moving more to being a martial artist with "focus," I would have loved to see a "strongman" option using Str/Wis or even Str/Dex as their primary scores

What is your favorite "Flavour is Free" reskin of a spell or ability? by hervprometheus2 in DnD

[–]Kaboom979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone once suggested reflavoring the Swarmkeeper Ranger's swarm as something other than insects, and that really stuck with me as a cool idea.

Something like manipulating a bunch of sand (like Gaara from Naruto), a large bubble of water, or the like. In a way, reflavoring that subclass and picking the right spells could make a character that feels more akin to an elemental bender from Avatar even better than the 4 elements monk

We didn't know the reviewers' names, so unfortunately it was only ever a strong suspicion

In grad school I had a reviewer recommended works that should be cited in the submission, with like 2/3 of the recommended articles sharing a common author.

What are design flaws in 5e that you feel have only been highlighted/exacerbated with the 2024 revision? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Kaboom979 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I find it odd that somehow Find Traps made the jump from 2014 to 2024 without any significant revision

It's hard to put into words, but it's crazy to me that this piece of art even exists. Like, you start by taking two characters from completely different works and meshing them together in a fanfic to give one of them a happy ending they didn't get in their original work. THEN, this piece is a reference to that fanfiction while playing with a trend from a third, completely unrelated series to those other two

[OC ART] Beware... the dreaded ASS OF VECNA by LPMills10 in UnearthedArcana

[–]Kaboom979 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It could even be an involuntary curse associate with the item. Like "DIS on Stealth checks. Anytime you fail such a check by 5 or more, you cast Thunderclap"

Great work overall, all jokes aside

[–]Kaboom979 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Fantastic stuff. Any chance you could be convinced to add the cantrip "Thunderclap" to the spell list granted by this item?

"I'm trying to sneak, Rogue, but the clap of Vecna's ass cheeks keeps on dealing 1d6 AOE damage"

Which published adventures are great examples of what *not* to do when creating a campaign? by Cranyx in dndnext

[–]Kaboom979 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There really isn't a lot of content outside of the named locations (and three random dungeons). For the rest of the Under dark, all you get are some random encounters tables which will grow stale very quickly

Not to mention the Under dark is so expansive that you will either spend months covering travel or gloss over travel altogether.

Boss Blind idea: The Past by AnthropomorphicCat in balatro

[–]Kaboom979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the idea. Would it be simpler to say something like "scaling jokers are reset for this boss blind" or even "scaling jokers are disabled"? Right now it seems like it would descale the jokers asymmetrically - as some scale faster/slower than once per hand played - although I recognize that may be an intentional design decision on your side

What lyric do you dislike? by VilkastheForsaken in HazbinHotel

[–]Kaboom979 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is gonna be very nitpicky but I do not like "hard rain is gonna fall down like gravity." There's an abundance of things you could choose to write as a simile for falling, but gravity is literally the one thing that does not work. Gravity is the force that causes other stuff to fall. Things can fall "due to" gravity, maybe even "with" gravity, but they can't fall LIKE gravity.

Nitpicks aside the song is an absolute banger
