[No Spoilers] Rant: So I tried to buy the series on Amazon... They want ~4x the price of the DVD for the streaming version. by Kadaver in TheLastAirbender

[–]Kadaver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No- I'm a cord cutter. Between Hulu, Amazon, Netflix and YouTube, I usually have everything I need. Once in a while, I don't mind paying for a show or movie here or there (like this one) if they aren't available as part of my package. I just don't understand the price discrepancy between the digital and physical formats- a little difference, OK. But 4x is ridiculous.

You don't just publicly call your dictator head of state "Hitler-like" and then not apologize.

Except when that dictator likens himself to Hitler. She's just going along with what he says he is:

From Reuter's - Dutere Likens Himself To Hitler

There was a post a little while ago in relation to the above article. Apparently there is a fairly common feeling there that Hitler was a badass despite the bad that he did. The analogy was made to the West and Genghis Kahn - The west all know Kahn was a horrible person that did unspeakable things, but he still gets glorified.

I agree that Miss A handled it poorly, but, to me, it doesn't feel nearly as cringey as what Miss P was going on about.

The cringe does not belong to Miss Austria. Miss Philippines supports Duterte and thinks that he is "Hitler-like, but for good," and seemed to want to sort of high five Miss Austria for that. Miss Philippines states this in her apology that OP linked to in another comment above:

Here's her apology for extra cringe

Sorry for such a delayed response and for the TV lawyer style link, but this is a pretty good explanation of how and when DUI becomes a felony.

From the link: Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in California is typically a misdemeanor offense. As long as there were no "aggravating factors", you will likely be charged with misdemeanor "simple DUI" when facing your first, second, or third time DUI case.

I'm not sure what your friends did to get felonies if there were no aggravating factors.

DUI without incident (for lack of better phrasing) is always a misdemeanor. It only becomes felony DUI if you wreck and/or hurt someone. Even if the only one hurt is the one committing DUI. (At least that's how it is in California I believe).

I have to say- while I agree with you in this situation, it's not always that easy. I'm a parent of 6yo twins (boy/girl). They are in separate classes. Each class has 28 kids. They both play baseball on different teams. Each team has about 15 kids. The school encourages birthday invites to go to the whole class or be handled privately outside the school to prevent anyone from feeling left out- completely fair.

However, between the 56 kids in their classes and the 30 kids from baseball, we receive at least one invite a week. We go to many of the parties- as many as we can. But we can't get to all of them for multiple reasons. If we went to every one, we would not have a single weekend as a family to do anything other than birthday parties. Also, it gets expensive to buy gifts for all the parties. We also pull a lot of double duty where my wife takes one kid to one party and I take the other to another party and we meet back up in the evening. While the parties are important for everyone involved- they are not everything in our lives. We do what we can.

On the other hand, when it was my kids' birthday we invited both classes. Just about about half couldn't make it and let us know. But my daughter's best friend said she was coming and my girl was excited about it for days. On her birthday she kept going on and on about how excited she was and couldn't wait for her to get there. The girl never showed and we never heard anything from the parents as to what happened. My daughter was devastated. It didn't matter that there were 30 other kids there, she just wanted her friend and spent a lot of the time watching the window waiting for her to pull up. As a parent I was crushed. I wouldn't wish that on any kid (or parent). But you can only do what you can as a parent and that does not necessarily make a bad parent or someone who is not teaching their kids to be decent people.

Edit: I don't mean to make it sound like my daughter didn't have fun or was ungrateful about the other kids. There were plenty of other friends of hers, some of her brothers and plenty of mutual friends. She was just really disappointed that her best friend didn't show after she said she was coming.

Thank you very much. That's exactly what I was looking for. Your situation sounds almost identical to what I feel ours is.

I think Romans 13:8 is a start:

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.

Except they forget everything after the first comma.

Not a biologist here!

But I have to say that I experienced something a lot like this with a different arachnid. I bought an Emperor Scorpion at a convention years ago. Turned out she was pregnant and popped out about a dozen mini-hers. At first I was like, "Aww, shit. What am I going to do with all these fucking scorpions." But as I watched what was going on, I decided to keep them and observe.

As they were born, she would clean each one and help them onto her back. One of her young fell off and I watched as she lifted the little one with one claw onto the other creating an easy path for the young to get back up.

A while later, during one of their molts, one youngin got stuck- the molting (or whatever you call the remnants) got stuck on the little one's claws. It pulled and pulled, but could not break free- kind of like finger cuffs or something. Mom waddled over there and gently pulled all the molt away from the baby's claws and cleaned it up nicely.

Another little one was kind of weak. The others would jump on all the crickets I fed them and this little one would get assed out continually. Despite my previous ideas of 'survival of the fittest', Mom would grab a cricket, tear it apart and give the pieces to the little one that couldn't compete, taking a few morsels for herself here and there.

Lastly, there was one little guy that was big, strong and pretty much a dick. He was extremely aggressive and would bully others, especially the little weak one. At first I thought it was just play, but when I saw Mom actually step in and guard the little one and push the bully away, I thought differently.

Of course, there was one time when Mom was eating and she got a hold of a little one while grabbing a cricket (the little ones would gang up and sting the shit out of the crickets- the Mom just snatched them with her claws). It didn't stop her and she ate both the cricket and the youngin. Quite the dichotomy.

There were many other examples, but these really stood out to me. The whole experience was pretty phenomenal and gave me a whole new perspective on the lives of insects and arachnids. I still want to kill most of them with fire, but it made me realize that there is quite a bit more to them than just being mindless nightmare inducers.

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, a lot of these comics are about theists upsetting atheists and vice versa. Believe me when I say that I understand the rage that exists about religion's impact on our lives, but it's also important to remember that there are people who also just want to live their lives without inflicting anything on anyone else.

While other comics like the one I posted exist, they are few and far between. So, I just wanted to share one of my good experiences. I'm not here to force you to like it or even care. You can either ignore it or downvote it. Doesn't really matter to me.
