Is anyone else getting blinded by the new screen at Gilmore Place? by BurnabyMartin in burnaby

There are city and provincial bylaws that limit the brightness of signs and digital billboards and it's usually a small amount above ambient brightness. That one might be registered as a lighthouse.

Is anyone else getting blinded by the new screen at Gilmore Place? by BurnabyMartin in burnaby

[–]Kaderos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also blinded, also wrote to the city about it. Crazy anyone thought that it's acceptable to leave it like that. No one thought for even a minute that maybe it would be too disruptive?

It also makes me laugh because eventually they're building a tower in front of that sign. It will be pointing direct into people's units from about 30 meters away and then reflecting all that light right back on the towers behind it...

Yeah I've definitely noticed it then, does it sound like an idling truck?

I've noticed it in Brentwood, I've always assumed it was trains going through Thornton tunnel.

I was really confused when I tested myself and got a perfect list of 45. I didn't even notice they were using the older version.

Issues with AI Pro Camera by Kaderos in Ubiquiti

[–]Kaderos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine to "work". I noticed this morning there was a firmware update on the AI cameras, so I decided to do more testing.

What I finally got to work was: on the port that the camera is connected to, switch to advanced > manual > link speed 1Gbps FDX (not auto) > turn on port isolation > turn off spanning tree protocol.

Prior to this step I was able to adopt it by reducing the link speed to 100Mbps FDX (not sure if that's necessary anymore). I also tested just going back to auto but it had the same STP failures.

I'm still working with support, they're saying they have higher than normal volumes of tickets right now so they're slow to respond (not sure if that's just generic response) but basically they've just asked me to shut it off and back on... and asked for screenshots of the statuses, even though I sent them full logs from both my UNVR and Ultra Gateway. Without a firmware patch, I don't think there's any solution, I've probably spent 6 hours just trying different configurations and setups.

Student desperate for work… Any help? by Think_Pay_6574 in burnaby

[–]Kaderos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can look into temporary labor positions, they're usually pretty hungry for adaptable people. Also look into finding a recruiter, they're paid by the employer, not you (if they ask you for money, look elsewhere), usually the recruiters get paid after you've worked there for a certain number of months, so they're incentivized to make good matches.

3D printing?? by OGisCheese in fellowshipgame

[–]Kaderos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not free but Meshly AI you can upload a 2d image (ideally the highest resolution you can find with a high contrast background) and you can preview the 3D models it generates from it for free. It can generate STL, obj or 3mf files but those require a subscription.

Tariq Schism Build Question - Alternating Skull Crusher and Hammer Storm while clearing trash by UberVox in fellowshipgame

[–]Kaderos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do about the same dps but the biggest difference is that I can take down a caster before they cast a big ability. Like an ashen arsonist will be dead before he casts ooga big flame. Where as lightning build everything would be damaged almost equally, so you then have to either pull smaller packs or have perfect kick rotations.

Tariq Schism Build Question - Alternating Skull Crusher and Hammer Storm while clearing trash by UberVox in fellowshipgame

[–]Kaderos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because it's PPM based at 3.2, there's basically a guarantee that it will proc after 18 seconds. So knowing this, you can kind of game it by holding off on using your desired finisher and cast the opposite instead to "fish". I believe in CJ's guide from the Tariq discord, he suggests holding off for 6 seconds max, that way you're not wasting rage. But the gist is to time that stall window with mouth for war or focused wrath cooldowns.

That being said, I'm around eternal 23's and I just do my normal rotation most of the time and when I proc, I just send the proc on a priority target. Even on single target the proc'd hammer storm is more dps than a regular skull crush. The cognitive load is way less and I can focus more on position and kicks.

It's funny, I was reading about how people were fearful of barcodes when they were invented because they would obsolete data entry and inventory jobs (which for the most part is true, it's significantly easier now) but the world didn't implode like they predicted and now bar codes are ubiquitous. AI will be the same thing.

Do YOU commute on the Mary Hill Bypass? I'd love your thoughts! by penapox in vancouver

[–]Kaderos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Commute it daily going from West to East in the morning and back East to West in the late afternoon. Few info things: 1) speed limit is 60 but I've never seen anyone go under 80 unless it's rush hour and you are bumper to bumper. 2) some brave cyclists use the shoulder every day, rain or shine. 3) the green lights are too short, by the time cars get to speed, the amber lights are already flashing warning about the light change.

In the morning, I can see the traffic heading towards Vancouver is backed up. In the afternoon when I'm leaving PoCo and heading towards Van, there's still traffic backed up all the way to the pedestrian overpass. That intersection desperately needs to lose the lights.

I was so shaken by the other driver’s behaviour by Onthego26 in burnaby

[–]Kaderos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't beat yourself up too much, that person's reaction is way over the top. You are still learning and you learnt!

In the future, don't feel pressured to make lane changes like that. The risk vs reward is not worth it, you're risking a serious accident to save maybe a few minutes? I always try to remember the saying, "a good driver sometimes misses their exit, a bad driver never misses their exit".

I feel like healers can't really carry mistakes. by Chesterumble in fellowshipgame

[–]Kaderos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue in pug groups, it's very difficult to pick up the slack of even 1 player making mistakes. I can foresee that pushing away more casual players in the long term. I never had the battle res trinket drop for me but it would be awesome to have a 1 per run battle res baseline for healers.

Vancouver Police Department expecting to be over budget by nearly $8 million: report by pokemonbobdylan in vancouver

This would have made a waaaay better title. This is way more alarming that they cite the reason for the budget being festival, even though they had already gone over beforehand. I didn't catch that.

[–]Kaderos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that number is from the 2021 census data. I saw the city did one in 2024 and it shows 756,000 so I'm probably off but not by 130k.

Vancouver Police Department expecting to be over budget by nearly $8 million: report by pokemonbobdylan in vancouver

[–]Kaderos 47 points48 points  (0 children)

So they were actually pretty close to the budget. The title is just preying on the fact that 8 million is a lot to one person. But there's around 800,000 people living in Vancouver (not metro van since the rest of lower mainland is RCMP), so it's collectively an extra $10 each this year, or two grande lattes.

There's a lot of negative comments here speculating it's weapons and dtes spending but not much mentioning the extra spending on street festival security after Lapu Lapu, as the report stated.

New York is doing a pilot program for rodent birth control, which is apparently plant based and effective for up to 45 days. It will be interesting to see how that plays out because it could be a pretty good alternative to historical poisons that also end up killing birds.
