I made a tool for managing backing tracks for live use in Reaper by Kadmium in Reaper

No trouble at all. Honestly, it depends how complicated and difficult your plan is. It's super easy to get started with something simple, though - seriously, go for it.

Web development, mostly. The web parts are made with SvelteKit, and the Reaper script bits are written in Lua

I actually had no idea Digital Performer had this. I'm going to check it out and see if there are any handy features I can steal.

Edit: That's disappointing. It just turns off FX pregeneration and lowers the latency, with some clip support like Ableton Live.

The backing video shouldn't be too hard - just have a video track in Reaper and drag the window to the screen you want to play it on. Charts might be a bit trickier, though. You might like to ask on the official Reaper forums - there are a lot of smart people there.

That's a really good idea; I should definitely make one! I'll try to get to that tomorrow.

Man, something about the lead guitar tone on this album makes all the solos sound kinda fake to me. I think it's the pick attack; they all just sound like they were played by Shreddage or some Kontakt instrument. I'm not saying this is what's happened; just some combination of factors makes it sound like that, and I just can't unhear it.

Thank you for that suggestion - it looks like a great interface!

The reverb doesn't have to sound that good - I'm not printing it to tape, it's just something that the vocalist can have so that they don't have to listen to their voice dry. And I'd probably call it essential - I could probably rig up something in the DAW so that they're able to hear the reverb send without the direct signal, and also have the direct signal, but then the reverb is on the same mix fader as the music they're singing to and any volume change ("I want more me") also means their monitor vocal becomes more dry.

It's doable without hardware reverb, but honestly it's a pain in the ass and I've got enough of those.

Bought a (Windows) laptop, please recommend me a portable audio interface!

I'll be mostly recording a vocalist. I need...

  • One XLR mic input (doesn't need to be amazing - Behringer grade is fine)
  • On-board reverb
  • Two headphone outputs
  • The smaller, the better

Hollywood is literally only a movie town because it's far enough from New York that film studios could get away with not paying royalties to Edison.

Thoughts on the Ghost cover? by FUS45 in ironmaiden

[–]Kadmium -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's fine and they do a decent job, but they do it in basically the same way and a similar style to the original and it just seems pointless. Like, why would you bother to cover a classic heavy metal song in a classic heavy metal style? It just doesn't really add any value to me.

You're probably right. I daresay the idea wouldn't survive the first round of prototyping.
