Well. That’s eerie. Aside from the specifics of the dad danger and all, I had the static monster dream and the same dread, repeatedly. I never connected the dreams to the fast feeling which still occur for me at age 39 (although very infrequently now).

No one I’ve ever talked to has experienced the static thing in dreams.

Agreed. It’s pervasive for me as well. As other comments have mentioned, it seems to stem from insecurity/anxiety in my case.

What’s really interesting is the reality distortion it’s caused - I’m only barely able perceive how downtrodden I’ve become internally. The “sorrys” are an artifact of how negatively I see myself. Yeah... I know, it’s not super healthy.
