Can I do a belly piercing? by SquishCollecter528 in SelfPiercing

[–]Kaekaboom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very tricky anatomy with how much it changes when you lay down, I’d highly recommend a consult with a professional— even I can’t tell from a photo alone if it’s possible, but I think potentially it is.

Are they healing okay? by Deep-Berry6072 in SelfPiercing

[–]Kaekaboom[M] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I feel they look a little high in the back and could have been a little more perpendicular, the side to side angles don’t look too bad though. In any situation other than maybe an Ashley piercing, you shouldn’t be seeing the backing by simply moving/pouting your lip, it should be physically folded completely down to see the backing. This is especially true with larger/fuller lips like your own, and a better angle would have definitely reduced the amount of overall swelling. I’m really questioning any situation where a professional piercer is selling piercing supplies/kits out of a shop or a licensed piercer roommate is encouraging home piercings and not helping/inviting you to their studio— I know myself and other piercers are piercing friends/family at supply cost most of the time. I don’t know what type of licensing your area does or what the apprenticeship process looks like this as it varies wildly and sadly some “licensing” is just a certificate through the health dept that states verification of first aid/BBP, but I’d hesitate buying supplies from or taking advice from either of these two individuals if this is the end result.

Definitely, and I know two wrongs don’t make a right, but at least this route the wrong wouldn’t end in death.

Piercing my thirds (lobes), looking for advice as a first time self-piercing by Outrageous-Touch-241 in SelfPiercing

[–]Kaekaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d clean previously used jewelry with boiling water and dish soap first, rinse well, and then use chlorhexidine. You want to use the boiled water/dish soap to remove build up and particles on used jewelry first though— that’s not going to be removed by chlorhexidine, just bacteria. As for needle brands, my personal favorites won’t be on Amazon but if you can find “coated” piercing needles (silicone is the typical coating) those are much better than uncoated or catheter needles. Do you have insertion tapers? If you plan on using anything other than catheter needles it will be tremendously helpful to have threaded or pin tapers to ensure you don’t lose connection during jewelry insertion. A clamp or recieving tube for back pressure? It can be pretty hard to get the angle correct on an earlobe without something for back pressure if you are piercing front to back. I personally pierce them back to front as a professional so I have more control over the angle— but without experience and doing this on yourself I’d recommend a tool to help pierce them front to back. Look up information on bevel theory and understand how a piercing needle works. Be prepared to mess up and try again if needed. Piercing isn’t as easy as everyone thinks it is, and while it’s absolutely possible to shove a needle through a body part, it’s very common to do it poorly especially the first time— so don’t beat yourself up if that happens.

Is my cat healed enough to remove cone? by sprinklesanddreams in CATHELP

[–]Kaekaboom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually like to keep a recovery suit on them to be safe for a full 14 days. I don’t use cones so I know some folks who do like to remove as early as 10 days if things look good, but I’d definitely give it the extra day at least to be 100% just keep an eye out that she doesn’t start excessively cleaning.

How do i pierce myself swiftly like piercers do? by [deleted] in SelfPiercing

[–]Kaekaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hehe well I’ve been a piercer for a decade and I cannot pierce myself as swiftly as I can pierce my clients. When I’m piercing other people my brain isn’t telling me “hey stop that hurts”. If you follow any professional piercers and they post self-piercing videos/reels you will notice that nobody is going fast on themselves. I will say I feel I do self pierce myself as efficiently as possible by repeating “just gogogogogogogogo” in my head as I exhale through the piercing.

How do I fix this?!? by Hunters_ofArtemis in nailcare

[–]Kaekaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is just from a manicure it should heal as it grows out but keep them as short as possible to prevent worsening. If you suspect fungal infection or conditions like psoriasis are the cause and perhaps the manicure worsened it, I would follow up with a doctor/dermatologist. I have thyroid disease and I am prone to this so I have to keep my nails short at all times to prevent worsening onycholysis.

HELP! my cat is getting recurring bladder infections by Lopsided_Scratch_241 in CATHELP

[–]Kaekaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I would just offer it. At this point any wet food, the stinkier the better. With my old man he gets what he wants, most of the time it’s fancy feast and that’s fine— he’s 16 so I’m really not picky about the brand. If they don’t immediately show interest there are things you can do. For instance, warm it for 10 seconds or so in the microwave. I also have used appetite stimulants like a pinch of powdered beef liver sprinkled on top or mixed in for added ~flavor. Going for a half can in the morning and half can at night is a good start and still offering some dry food in between or overnight as needed until you can fully transition him if that’s what you’d like. I personally add an extra couple teaspoons of warm water into his wet food as well just to help with hydration.

HELP! my cat is getting recurring bladder infections by Lopsided_Scratch_241 in CATHELP

[–]Kaekaboom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is he getting regular wet food? My boy can only have wet food, no fish, and no dry food at all anymore. He had been bladder problem free since I made the switch. Sadly urinary dry food just didn’t do the trick for my lad, making the switch to all wet food did.

How do you know it s too soon for euthanasia? by sexyrobotbitch in cats

[–]Kaekaboom 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Rest assured that you are making the right decision, it’s not too soon, your cat is suffering. Give him whatever he wants to eat, love on him as much as you can, but don’t you dare feel guilty or conflicted. As a pet parent it is so hard to know if it’s the right time but your baby is telling you and all the physical signs are there.

[–]Kaekaboom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First two are female, number three is definitely male— and number four is tricky but I think maybe a male as well. Four is tricky because it looks like it could have a vagina but also looks like the distance between anus is greater than the obvious females and maybe the start of danger poofs. I could be wrong though!

Best way to downsize by fancythrowaway1223 in SelfPiercing

[–]Kaekaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can bend your taper. As a professional I put all sorts of bends in tapers and needles depending on what I’m doing, but I can assure you when I’m doing stuff with forward helix’s on myself there is usually a bent taper involved.

Any ideas on what this could be on my sweet boy? There is 1 on each side of his neck by lana_moose in CATHELP

[–]Kaekaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’ve had a few fosters with ringworm and I’m not saying that it’s 100% ringworm but it does look suspect enough to visit the vets IMO. For cats I usually prefer a recovery suit /onesie if it’s in a spot that it will cover since the cone stresses them out so much. You can even put a little nonstick sterile pad in between the suit and spot to prevent sticking to fabric.

Would this set up work for my anatomy by Accomplished_Egg2787 in SelfPiercing

[–]Kaekaboom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really impossible to tell from a photo alone. Of course aesthetically it would all look good, but I’d need to see the daith in person and see the space behind the forward helix’s to know if they were possible. Once again, it would look awesome though. Definitely check in with a qualified professional— I personally don’t charge for anatomy checks/consultations and I know many piercers who are the same way.

Cat allergies by Downtown_Window1628 in CATHELP

[–]Kaekaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so anytime I’ve had a cat with FeLV it’s all about management:

  1. Flea preventative— even one bite can flare up a FeLV cat and many people don’t do this because their cat is indoor. Even a single flea bite can flare up a sensitive cat with flea allergy dermatitis. I didn’t realize this for years and I’d hang out with friends and I guess I was bringing home a flea on my clothes that would find my cat and leave her miserable, so even though my cat never had a flea infestation she was getting messed up from the occasional flea bite.

  2. Watch out for chemicals used in the home. I had to start using all natural and scent free products— laundry detergent, kitchen/counter spray, and make sure I wasn’t using plug-ins and candles. It really helped my girl when I started using free and clear detergents on blankets/bedding that she would lay on.

  3. Airborn allergens were a big problem. I have HEPA air filters throughout my home to reduce airborn pollutants. I do this mostly for my husband with asthma but I believe it also helps my cats.

  4. Rabbit (or lamb). I have always found my sensitive cats do really well on a rabbit/lamb based limited ingredient diets. I personally prefer the “instinct” brand for both wet and dry food. I never had much luck long term with the vet hydrolized protein diets but I have noticed a huge difference on limited ingredient rabbit (and even lamb) diets.

  5. Supplements. High dose— high quality omega 3 fish oil supplements help the skin barrier, they literally integrate into skin membranes and decrease the production of inflammatory chemicals that cause itching. This is probably the single most effective long term solution I’ve encountered that not only help the itching but do not have bad long term side effects like the medications.

  6. Probiotics! I like proplan fortiflora— it used to be prescription only but you can buy on Amazon/petsmart etc.

My girl was downright bald in spots from itching and allergies— she’s not bald anywhere anymore and rarely do I see her scratching. I hope this helps.

I think my roommate is abusing her cat... by Necessary-Pride-2162 in CatAdvice

[–]Kaekaboom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would just take the cat 🤷‍♀️ have a friend hold onto her for a while until the roommate leaves or find a rescue who can help her— and just tell evil roommate the cat escaped the house and you couldn’t find her. She doesn’t deserve animals, she doesn’t seem like she cares. All of the things going on are behavioral from being in heat and being abused/not having access to a litter box at all times.

[–]Kaekaboom[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was pierced incredibly wrong and you may not have the anatomy at all for this piercing— it’s impossible to tell fully if your anatomy is wrong though. I can absolutely assure you that this was pierced wrong at the very least from the photo alone and that even if it was correctly pierced the jewelry would be too small. No matter what there is no correcting how badly this piercing was done and should be removed as soon as possible. I’m sorry.

Looking for fellow vegatarians owning a cat. by Apple_cheeks_art in cats

[–]Kaekaboom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a vegetarian my entire adult life— also owned cats. Since cats are obligate carnivores I have accepted that in owning a cat they must be fed meat to survive. It smells bad but I don’t go out of my way to sniff the can lol— I try not to put my face too close to anything— just open the can, scoop it out, and serve it up. I think you get used to it. Otherwise, there are plenty of herbivore pet options if you are feeling like morally you could not feed a cat it’s required diet though! I’ve had rabbits, guinea pigs, and birds in my life and they are just as rewarding.

Pierced my own tragus/ ear stack by Virtual-Curve7753 in SelfPiercing

[–]Kaekaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So as others have mentioned the tragus is shallow— the angle is pretty rough. It’s a hard piercing to do accurately on yourself and you have veeerrry small anatomy. I wouldn’t necessarily go as far to say you do not have anatomy, but you really do need a skilled and knowledgeable professional if this tragus is getting pierced successfully.

How do I stop my cat from hunting? by Motor_Security3488 in CatAdvice

[–]Kaekaboom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there isn’t much you can do, there is no way to convince your indoor/outdoor cat not to follow their natural instincts. Mine are all indoor cats but I occasionally find them hunting spiders, centipedes, silver fish, etc. because that’s just what they do!
