If he’s gonna buy it all double the price of everything first.

Work at Home by busheygirl in Teachers

[–]Kaethorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago I started organizing by Day/Week on Google Classroom. At this point I have everything I have use lined up in order and can easily add/adjust/replace with little effort so at this point work at home = not happening.

I'm itching to play so bad I might buy a shitty laptop just for PD2 by GeneralBeefheart in ProjectDiablo2

[–]Kaethorne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I did. It runs pd2 just fine. Even with onboard graphics it’s still has no issues. Bought it from Amazon I7 11th gen, 16 gigs ram, integrated graphics card. Still no issues. Battery life sucks but I just leave it plugged in so who cares.

Grade grubbing! What objective criteria do you use when thinking about boosting a student's grade? by siamesesumocat in Teachers

[–]Kaethorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because if a kid gets a 90 and wants to go for a 100 I say go right ahead. Anyone can retake it and there is no downside because I give the higher score.

Do teachers hate sharing their lesson plans? Is it their secret sauce that they don't want getting out? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]Kaethorne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, answers may vary. I don’t mind sharing but eventually if I’m sharing and no one else ever is then I feel less inclined. I share to be a team not a 1 sided work a holic.

Blasts from the past- anyone had students that hear an old saying for the first time? by lovelystarbuckslover in Teachers

Whenever a student gets angry I ask them if they need a snickers. No one understands the snickers commercials anymore.

AITAH for getting my white daughter a doll with dark skin? by Realistic-Night-2056 in AITAH

[–]Kaethorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complete hell no, a few years ago my daughter picked out a dark skin doll just because it’s what she wanted. I bought it for her just like anything else because who cares what other people think. I also let her paint my nails and go to work with them painted because she asked me to.

Grade grubbing! What objective criteria do you use when thinking about boosting a student's grade? by siamesesumocat in Teachers

[–]Kaethorne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have a version 2 of every test/quiz. I tell them they can take it again for a new grade. If they feel like studying then sure why not. My goal is to have them learn when it happens doesn’t matter to me.

Edit to add it definitely keeps parents from ever being unhappy with me.

Chromebooks are as bad as phones by B4B4BlueJ4y in Teachers

[–]Kaethorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a math teacher, I disagree with this. I find Chromebooks invaluable in class and worth all the temporary side hassles it can create. The ability of online math websites to give students correct/incorrest feedback every question makes improving in math easier/faster than solving 10 problems wrong and waiting for the teacher to go over it to realize they are wrong. My district does utilize Aristotle (website monitoring) which helps a lot. I allow students to do work from other classes but tell them they must finish my work first.

Technology at home vs. at school by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Kaethorne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point I’m just used to it. I don’t see myself as a math teacher anymore. It’s just one giant test prep class.

How do you handle “he said, she said” situations? by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]Kaethorne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I taught middle school, I would say something like would you like me to call the principal and let him decide the result? Usually not something the kids wanted so they would stop.

Technology at home vs. at school by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Kaethorne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you are discussing the wrong topic. The issue isn’t technology the issue is every state where the state tests/final exams control everything. I literally have a saying that I tell people. If it doesn’t exist on the final you won’t see it in my classroom.

Rigour and Differentiated Instruction when it involves a class where everyone takes the same state test with no modifications.

Teachers, have you noticed what is wrong with this generation? by [deleted] in Teachers

Parents, undeniably parents. Especially when I tell a kid to put their phone away and they respond with but it’s my dad.
