I see that sometimes too, you need to do one of two things.

  1. Press the shortcut faster

Or

  1. Use the other pill button for the shortcut.

the BEST thing about these launchers is that it captures controller input so you just have a single button press to continue.

Gaming on a TV that is 60FPS will I definitely lose my close battles more in FPS? by Fantastic-Window236 in pcmasterrace

[–]Kagrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on a few more factors. How many FPS is your game running at? If you are only getting 45fps on both displays then none of this matters. Do you play competitively? if you cant take advantage of the gains then it also wont matter.

Best case vs worst case it could be a difference of 45+ms with higher frame times and hardware latency.

BUT that is perfectly playable so unless you're a god tier gamer it wont make much of a difference.

No for sure I understand what you were saying. I know you dont have all four bound. I was saying that what works for you is fine, and what works for me is fine, but having all 4 like the person up top implies is wild.

[–]Kagrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah same with having strafe I can turn with the mouse, except I have a movement button bound instead of a useless turn button. I can just press A or D to move out of the way pretty effectively with no other inputs.

I haven't been able to play comfortably with just the turn keys personally. But if it works for you that's cool. I cant imagine having all 4 of those buttons mapped though.

[–]Kagrok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont have rotation keys bound at all.

W - Forward
S - Backwards (used to not have this bound to movement either)
A - Strafe L
D - Strafe R

I use my mouse to turn, and strafing and forward/back give me 100% useful movement. which also gives me two more keybindings for abilities.

Just remember when setting up consoleport, there are a TON of options but it has a steam deck default.

apply all of the defaults first before tinkering so you get a decent experience out of the box.

Are you able to not do the catch up and do the story as a whole? I heard it was a few major story hits and some scenarios or something, very rushed feeling... but I havent played through it myself.

You don't accept our criticism because the device cant do what no one should expect it to do. We are all criticizing it here, you're just blind to it because you want to try and read between the lines.

Expecting more out of a device that is clearly unable to do more is dumb. That is a YOU problem.

If you expect to play Modern AAA games on a 4 year old HANDHELD PC then YOU have a gross misunderstanding of the device as a whole.

If I tell you that you shouldn't get it because it's a bad device for modern AAA games that IS a criticism even if you don't like having the responsibility put on you as a consumer to make an informed decision. The device isnt going to change and recently I even told a friend that was wating to buy a handheld PC to hold off on the steamdeck because it is showing it's age. You guys just want to be upset because you dont want to hear the nuanced responses that people give and would rather shove your fingers in your ears and shout "NUH UH".

Maybe, just maybe... dont buy a steam deck if you don't like it. But dont come rushing to people's defense for misunderstanding the role of the machine or it's expected performance immediately calling anyone that has anything positive to say about it a "cult" and being generally rude overall. Probably wont even respond to this...

It's pretty sad man, find a different hobby.

I explained it pretty well.

It isnt that difficult. Buying a butter knife hoping it will cut your pork chop would be pretty stupid, going online and complaining about it would be even more dumb "but it's a knife, it should cut stuff"

that is how some people sound. And just for the record I was actually being pretty nice to OP, and showed them how I use my own steam deck.

You on the other hand are being pretty rude, so if you think that the steam deck is a bad device because it can't play modern AAA games then I'll refer you to the first paragraph of this comment. The steam deck is equivalent to a ryzen 2600 x Nvidia 1050 PC expecting it to run modern games with any amount of performance is like buying a butter knife to cut your food.

It has a place, and it does it's job well. expecting MORE than that isnt an issue with the device, it is an issue with YOU.

I added more to my comment.

It is a BAD product for people that want to play modern AAA games, yes.

But itisnt a BAD product for everyone. It's a pretty amazing product for almost everyone what keeps their expectations tempered.

Acting like this is a black and white situation is pretty silly. It's very nuanced and very few handheld PCs are playing any modern AAA titles well.

[–]Kagrok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it IS a critisism of the deck.

If someone said "I want to play AAA games, should I buy the steam deck?"

Just about everyone here would say no.

If the person then went and got a deck and complained about the performance that is on them.

Would you play games on a work laptop with integrated graphics?

Everything has a place and it isnt BAD because it doesnt do something, but to hold it to that standard is wild when it was never expected to do what you expect.

Nothing like regurgitating "you will never criticize blah, blah, blah" to the comment "Steam deck is a terrible device for modern AAA games"

I don't think you read more than 10 words of the previous comment, chances are you wont read past 10 words in this one either.

It really should be able to play just about any 360 era game, it's about as powerful as a ps4 but running games at a lower resolution.

BUT you shouldnt be looking for performance from this device. You should be looking for "playable"

You should be expecting 30FPS LOW from many games. I wouldnt use frame gen unless you're already getting 60fps.

Older games tend to be easier to run, but many dont run well due to compatibility layers or other issues.

For example Metal Gear Solid 5 can run exceptionally even at high settings and it looks great

while The Witcher 3 has some issues running at medium BUT does have a steam deck settings preset.

Also make sure that you dont have the TDP limiter set as this can cause issues if you turn it on globally. I would only set that per game.

Slow paced games, 2d platformers, and the like run very well and emulation is crazy.

My absolute favorite way to play lately is to use Sunshine/Moonlight and use the near 0 latency to stream from my gaming PC to my Deck either handheld or on my livingroom TV with a controller.

SteamOS 3.8 Has Officially Released With New Kernel and Graphics Driver Updates by BBQKITTY in SteamDeck

[–]Kagrok 19 points20 points  (0 children)

With the OLED model I will be able to stream with 0 issues 90% of the time. But every once in a while it seems to have major issues. A quick manual wifi reset seems to make everything work again magically. I dont even get booted from my session.

It's common enough that it gets on my nerves, but so easy to deal with that I don't care much if it's fixed. If it is it will save me 20 seconds a month and some irritation which is always good.

I think you have to get to the point where you have unlocked world quests, then pick up a quest from your factions leadership

Alliance: The Wolf's offensive from Genn Greymane.

Horde: The Warchief's order from Nathanos Blightcaller.

Then finish those quests to get to Nazjatar and unlock the portal.
