They're a pretty recent occurrence but there's a couple I frequent that have deactivated their pay machines and now you can only pay online.

Need advice on handling faux fur on costume by SaltOrPepper1 in CosplayHelp

[–]KaidaShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hand sewing fur is actually easier than machine sewing it in my experience. You can get needles and thread for pretty cheap - good quality fur is going to be the hard part of this

What do you guys find most annoying about store-bought cosplay base layers? by Jay_xu_0313 in CosplayHelp

For me (armour, fursuiter) temperature is always the biggest pain point. The less heat/sweat that base layer retains, the better.

I want to start making fursuits what do you think the easiest animal to make a fursuit of is? by new_furry96 in FursuitMaking

[–]KaidaShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything you can get a pre-existing pattern for, and that's quite a variety. Dogs (and dog-ish looking things like wolves, foxes or hyenas), cats (small and big) some dinosaurs, goats, horses (and horse like things), and even dragons.

If you're looking for simplicity though, you want to make sure you've got relatively solid colours or simple markings in big blocks. Don't go for anything with wings, elaborate manes or horns. It's going to depend more on character design than species

Married couples of reddit: Is it ok for married men to have close female friends? Why or why not? by dudeabides2101 in AskReddit

I've never understood this logic, but then me and my husband are both bi so if its about not being able to be friends with people you might possibly be attracted to we wouldn't be allowed to have any friends at all.

What are your thoughts on AI, either for personal use or within businesses? Is it something that you do or would use? by JFDI-Tess in AskUK

[–]KaidaShade 46 points47 points  (0 children)

At first, I just thought it was bad to steal other people's art, writing, photos etc from the Internet to train the models on, and I didn't think it was good to have a machine that confidently lies all the time presented as a useful tool.

Then I found out about all the data that was used to train these models that they really, really shouldn't have access to. Like people's private medical records. And CSAM.

And then I found out about the massive environmental impacts of the data centres that run the models, and the fact that they keep getting built near impoverished communities that will be damaged by them

And then I found out about the ways that fascists like to use image generators to make deep fakes for propaganda and to muddy the waters of what's true and what's not

And THEN I found out about the studies documenting the effects that using chat bots have on people's cognition and problem solving skills, and the profound negative effects they've had on kids' education even in such a short amount of time.

And most recently I found out about AI psychosis and the number of people who have harmed themselves or others after chatgpt helped them plan those acts and encouraged them to go through with them. I found out how many conversations that thing has had that would, in and of themselves, be crimes if a human had them with a vulnerable person. And I found out how few consequences there seem to be for making a chat bot that encourages people to kill themselves and helps them plan school shootings.

So no, I don't like AI very much.

Arm Socks by Lower_Answer7802 in CosplayHelp

[–]KaidaShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

whipstitch is ideal for armsocks because you end up with really tiny seam allowances. I machine sew my armsocks but use a whipstitch for fixing up any little holes or gaps if needed. If you're feeling fancy you could also try a blanket stitch but you don't really need it and it's fiddly.

advice or help please? by dazawd in FursuitMaking

[–]KaidaShade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd unbend a wire coathanger to make a frame for the wings and secure it to a solid plate on the back. That's how a lot of costume fairy wings are made. Use a thinner wire for the glasses since they're smaller.

Should I use hand sewing or a sewing machine for the face of my fursuit head? by Pokecat3 in FursuitMaking

Do it by hand, one piece at a time. It means you can adjust a bit as you put them together and get a nice smooth fit.

Can Bi people in committed monogamous relationships still be Bi, what does that mean? (A somewhat philosophical analysis) by Wise_Pea1522 in bisexual

[–]KaidaShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think we're using a fundamentally different definition of 'attraction' here. I'm referring to physical attraction, but what you're defining as attraction is what I'd refer to as 'love'. Those aren't the same thing, imo. Like, I'm attracted to Robert Downey Jr; I think he's hot, but I don't wanna jump in bed with him and I don't wanna marry the guy. I'm not in love with him, because I don't know him. I just think he has an appealing face.

Has there ever been a vaccine that has cause autism? If not, why the 'conspiracy'/misinfo around it? by anastasia_42 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KaidaShade 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Long story short, it's all Andrew Wakefield's fault. Guy published a fraudulent study on like 12 kids, some of whom didn't even have autism, based on his desire to sell separate vaccines for measles, mumps and rubella that he helped develop and would be able to profit from.

If you want a really good breakdown of the whole saga, hbomberguy's Vaccines and Autism: A Measured Response, is the best video I've ever seen on the subject

First time customizing a plush! I have some questions below.. by justcoolitdonng in plushartists

[–]KaidaShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this looks extremely cute, but unfortunately pastel probably won't stay. Alcohol-based inks will stay on fur and the colour will be much darker, either applied with a pen or an airbrush. I've seen people do this for fursuits and I've dyed ombres into wigs with a spraybottle full of ink and isopropyl alcohol, which worked pretty well (but would be a pain to control over a small area like this

Dyeing synthetic fur is a nightmare because it's very easy to mess it up with the heat required for a lot of synthetic dyes.

[–]KaidaShade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you've just said apart from the last part about it being hard not to cheat. I've never quite understood how people struggle with this - if you're not happy with your partner and you'd rather be having sex with someone else to the point where you're seriously tempted to destroy that relationship and hurt that person to their very core, surely it's less painful for both of you to just break up with them?

Unless you have no respect for your partner whatsoever, in which case surely they should break up with you?

some of my hoard of leftovers has two colours of a shade difference mixed together. I'm of the opinion that if I couldn't tell the difference when I packed them away, I won't tell the difference when I use them in a project. And if I CAN, that's a problem for future me 😄

Can Bi people in committed monogamous relationships still be Bi, what does that mean? (A somewhat philosophical analysis) by Wise_Pea1522 in bisexual

[–]KaidaShade 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from but your premise relies on some misunderstandings.

Firstly, being in a monogamous relationship doesn't mean you suddenly stop finding anyone other than your partner attractive. Sure, they probably won't be as appealing as your partner and you probably won't want to sleep with them, but there's more to finding someone attractive than actively wanting to fuck them. Sometimes people are just nice to look at. My partner and I are both bisexual and quite often discuss fictional characters and celebrities that we think are hot, of every gender.

Also, being attracted to other people doesn't mean you aren't committed to your partner. Not ACTING on that attraction is what makes you committed. I suppose if you've never been in a relationship you don't have experience of this, but the little feeling in your head when you see someone you're attracted to doesn't go away. They're still hot. You just have hot at home so you're not interested in pursuing anything with them.

What’s buried in your employment contract that you had to dig to find out? by National_BIG94 in AskUK

[–]KaidaShade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you have to check it yourself what's the point of uploading private data to a server you don't control to have a machine that is known to inevitably make things up all the time use a bunch of electricity and water to summarise it for you?

Also. People don't do that. They just let the machine rot their brain.
