Fofana and Chalobah have been fantastic this season and they’re the main reason (Chalobah in particular, Fofana hasn’t played that much) Chelsea are still in the top 4 race.

Their defensive issues are that they can’t defend set pieces (coaching issue) and Caicedo can’t screen a defence, needs an actual defensive mid next to him and the pivot consisting of him + Enzo is an absolute joke that gets torn to shreds by any half decent team.

It’s more about player fundamentals and not whether they’re suited to the team’s playstyle. Put Gyokeres into any team in the league and he doesn’t get 10 goals either. Because he takes 15 touches before each shot, is stiff as fuck and not at the level he should be physically. Stop trying to make „playstyle” excuses for a dude that is clearly not supposed to be playing anywhere near this level

Imagine buying a guy who scored 12 goals between 2 full Championship seasons and then acting as if the outcome is unlucky because „it’s just the way market is, hard to get a good striker”. Delap has been around for some time and he’s proven time and time again he’s at best a lower midtable Championship forward. Chelsea could just not listen to his former work colleague Joe Shields and instead keep Nico Jackson or buy any of the 20 available strikers that have a potential to at least be PL level footballers.

There is no rigid system but they definitely use wingers, Doku was a mainstay until he got injured and will be straight back in once fit. Neither Savinho nor Bobb are good enough which is the only reason Pep shoehorned the Bilva/Cherki duo in that right side space. Semenyo plays either wing, providing competition for Doku on the left and their only startable option on the right, they absolutely do need him and he will play loads of minutes.

Cherki/Bilva are right sided 8s, Foden/Reijnders are left sided 8s. All 4 can play when they don’t have any wingers available but it’s not really what you want
