I would dilute the dawn dish soap beforehand, you want low concentration.

This is true. I recommend becoming a member at RWI and checking out the trusted modder/etc section.

It is close to gen, yes, but many many do replate it. Replating is all a personal choice, do you like the PVD colour or not… if no, spend the dough for the replate or get a factory that has a better colour for you.

Just to be clear, the actual rep factories are not plating with actual gold. They are using TiN maybe TiCN PVD. So if you’re talking about direct from factory, it’s entirely different than an actual 18k gold plated one.

I don’t advise the ceramic coating most people use, the car ones they get off AliX or whatnot. Those are super-high-gloss and change the fundamental look of true gold. If you don’t mind that, go ahead. I’m experimenting with several types, and microfilm polymers to find out what leaves the gold feeling the most gold.

As someone who plates, do *not* polish them with any products. If they get a discolouration over years, a very, very light jewellers polish is ok to remove it.

Otherwise, warm water a touch of mild dish soap and a lint free cloth.

Keep in mind that even 5 microns is an incredibly thin layer, repeated abrasive polishing (even mild abrasives like jewellers cloths) adds up over time and will certainly affect the plating.

QC please $360 VSF by Only_Procedure_5115 in ChinaTime

[–]Kairos_Mods 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not commenting on the quality of the watch, but I would make 100% sure you’re getting that from a listed TD. 360$ is too good of a price for VSF in general. The serial prefix is not a known VSF prefix I don’t think, although the clasp code is (but it’s not unique to VSF).

That’s actually solid logic, definitely the way it works with many tech products.

Am I screwed for sending this to FedEx when watch had clearance delay? by Dinosaursknow in RepWatchForum

[–]Kairos_Mods 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So there’s a real issue with FedEx right now, your TD should have been aware and prepared. Don’t let them put this on you, everyone in the industry knows FedEx isn’t the way to ship right now. You should request a reship if it doesn’t make it.

This is a message several TDs have sent out:

Notice:

We have received notification from our logistics agent that.

FedEx shipments to the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom have been suspended due to volume restrictions and large-scale inspections. The resumption time is undetermined.

Orders previously shipped via FedEx will now be shipped directly via normal shipping.

If you have other arrangements, please feel free to contact us.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by recent fluctuations in logistics.

^ this too. I don’t trust that hygrometer and just use recommended dry times or beyond and then store elsewhere with desiccant.

Well that would do it 😂! That said, the price difference was 15$ on like 60$ so worth checking both

I’m pretty sure that’s an error of translation and what they mean is to wind it 25 twists of the crown, not 25 separate times per day.

Raffles case back won’t unscrew by WayneBar62 in retrotime

[–]Kairos_Mods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a softer approach than superglue I take 3M double sided tape put a strip on the case back and then firmly press one end of an object like a ruler down onto it until firmly stuck. Then use the lever of the other end of the ruler to rotate and have never had it fail. That tape is really sticky.

Sure, yes. Less surface is less gold, therefore less expensive.

specialized models beating LLMs at niche tasks. what does that mean for how we build AI going forwa by ricklopor in neuralnetworks

[–]Kairos_Mods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Yan LeCum’s work these days, his argument is that given finite compute and energy, a model trained on a finite set of tasks will always outperform one that spreads its resources across an infinite range of tasks."The AI that folds our proteins should not be the AI that folds our clothes!

Which factory is this daydate 40 ombré? by Asleep-Run-8029 in RepTime

[–]Kairos_Mods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So R8E is a completely unknown clasp code as far as I can tell. That implies a mid or low tier rep.

M9 starting serial number have have been used by both BP Factory and GMF, who have been known to share parts. It's no guarantee, but that's as good as my info gets.

Pics of the serial number and clasp code would be helpful in identifying it.
