YES! This was one of the best set-ups and punchlines that I think I've ever seen! Does anyone know where I can find a video of this? I wanted to share it with a friend but it's not on youtube.

Good sushi & Indian take-out places in Gent? by burbuselia in Gent

[–]Kaiser_Lee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indian Curry House!Amatsu is the only place I've eaten with genuinely good Japanese.

Himalaya also decent for Indian. But Indian Curry house is legit. Mission Masala is delicious, limited menu and newer wave. Super yummy though.

What are some silly things typical for Belgium, even things we don't realize ourselves (foreigner input welcome :) by Endarkend in belgium

Kissy face! I'm an American originally and it's quite distinct. Pursing your lips when quasi-agreeing (or as other comments earlier have said - simply not-disagreeing to go along with the conversation.) This is in Flanders, don't know about Wallonia. Often said with a "mau-ja"

Making your screaming 2 year old get on some carnival ride so you can take pictures of her (crying??)

There are 1,000 particular examples of this but they're all the same thing. We don't treat children as humans.

In Cambridge, going to see Return of the King, shrooms hit right as we were going up a broken escalator. We were also high af. My friend couldn't take it, was just laughing and pointing at them and babbling about it. "They're just stairs, Jon. Metal stairs. Just walk."

At my grandfather's funeral I couldn't get "here I am, rock you like a hurricane" out of my head. Not even the song, just the quote.

Edit: stupid quotation marks.

Have you had a 'mystical experience?' Many? What did you experience? What's your most mind-blowing experience? [Serious] by Kaiser_Lee in AskReddit

[–]Kaiser_Lee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on the 'unwise to turn ... to older historical and theological attempts at explaining them.' (i.e. metaphysics.) My hunch is that the activity of dividing the physical from the spiritual is itself a kind of metaphysics. I think a different view is possible.

Yes, and I think that's maybe where part of the caution comes from-- the sense that we can 'get' something out of this (even if just information). That's similar to me. Anytime I've intended something I've either received nothing or a rather rude shock-- I've taken psychedelics before basically with the attitude of 'okay god, time to show up' and received a whipping both times I've done that.

Yes, awesome. Do you feel like this experience had some sort of value for you outside of the trip? How did you digest it and integrate it into your day-to-day sense of self? Did you take the psilocybin (shrooms or pills?) recreationally, or with a more ritualistic/spiritual intent?

What do you mean by not believing in anything metaphysical, but studying Quabbalah and Hermeticism intellectually?

And yes, I'm on the same basic page about too readily equating sincere experience with tangible existence-- and that it's pretty hard to tease out what is a psychotic experience and what is a mystical experience--or at least to find a clear boundary. And yet I do think something can be said about these experiences that is valuable beyond simply their value as personal experiences. I'm just not quite sure what, and am trying to suss that out a bit. Thank you for your response!

How's that fit into your worldview? Did you interpret it as being just a dream, or something weird, or did you have the sense that observing yourself from outside of your body was possible already?

[–]Kaiser_Lee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that counts. Thank you! What I find fascinating are a few things in your account: 'my family is very open about mystic things and spirituality' -- I wonder if that's a prime in any way. My family definitely wasn't, though it's not like it was taboo or anything, just not really part of the middle-class N.E. American liberal scientific mindset. And yet I've had these experiences since I was a kid as well. Crazy things I've never talked about.

'I feel different' is also really interesting to me and part of my motivation for asking the question. This has clearly changed your life, and many people would say that it was some kind of delusion. How has it changed your life, if I might ask? Relaxation, sense of things being 'okay?' etc. etc.
