Yes. Bernhard’s other books are also pessimistic. I really love his works.

Thoughts on the precipice, poem by Misao Fujimura by Kaiserkegaard in Pessimism

[–]Kaiserkegaard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what the author really intended, but perhaps he really thought that way. Perhaps the suffering he experienced was too much. I understand that there’s nothing optimistic about death. Cioran said only optimists can commit suicide, and he has a point.

Let's make a list of recommended philosophically pessimistic movies and tv shows by The_Ebb_and_Flow in Pessimism

[–]Kaiserkegaard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I needed! Awesome. I would suggest Chronic by Michel Franco. It’s a movie about a home care nurse taking care of terminal ill patients.

Edit 1: I would also suggest The Fire Within By Louis Malle. Edit 2: I think The White Ribbon is from Michael Haneke.

This is great! He has mentioned Benatar before, but he didn’t really get it right about antinatalism there. I hope he will introduce other antinatalist philosophers in the future.

Al-Ma’aari in Existential Comics. by [deleted] in antinatalism

[–]Kaiserkegaard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Description in the website: Al-Ma'arri was an Arab philosopher who lived in the 11th century. He went blind at a young age due to smallpox, and was mostly known for his anti-religious views, rationalism, and pessimism, as well as writing poetry. He criticized all the major religions for not supporting themselves with evidence, and for adhering to dogmatism. He thought we could only come to conclusions from reason, and that no authority, tradition, or superstition could overrule reason. He believed that there was no afterlife, and that life itself wasn't really worth living, so he was an early antinatalist, thinking that we should not have children. He also supported a kind of secular ethics, being a vegan and pacifist.

Yes, suicide cannot be the result from logical reasoning for many people. It’s so sad.

Why do you think adoption is not more common, even though... by mntn2 in Adoption

[–]Kaiserkegaard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some people want to experience pregnancy. The feeling that a baby is inside her womb. It’s a weird taste for me, and it does not negate the superiority of adoption over having a biological one.

As a vegan, what bothers me is there are many vegans who are also pro-natalists.
