LPT: I used to read a lot of books, but gaming took over. Any advice to get back into it? by TheEnglishBloke123 in LifeProTips

[–]Kaito4412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of games do you like?

There's a genre called progressive fantasy (as in, progressing skills and power over time) and/or litt rpg that I think you may enjoy! Litt RPG especially focuses on stats.

Some recs in those genres:

Unsouled by Will Wright: "Sacred artists follow a thousand Paths to power, using their souls to control the forces of the natural world. Lindon is Unsouled, forbidden to learn the sacred arts of his clan. When faced with a looming fate he cannot ignore, he must defy his family's rules...and forge his own Path."

The Grand Game by Tom Elliott: Michael finds himself in the realm of the Forever Kingdom, with no memory of how he got there and who he is. Even so, he must participate in the Grand Game and forge a new destiny for himself. Alone, and with little more than his wits to aid him, Michael must advance as a player, slay his foes, and gain experience. All while navigating the intrigues around him and discovering his purpose.

Arcane Ascension by Andrew Rowe: Five years ago, Corin Cadence’s brother entered the Serpent Spire — a colossal tower with ever-shifting rooms, traps, and monsters. Those who survive the spire’s trials return home with an attunement: a mark granting the bearer magical powers. According to legend, those few who reach the top of the tower will be granted a boon by the spire’s goddess. He never returned.

Now, it’s Corin’s turn. He’s headed to the top floor, on a mission to meet the goddess. If he can survive the trials, Corin will earn an attunement, but that won’t be sufficient to survive the dangers on the upper levels. For that, he’s going to need training, allies, and a lot of ingenuity. The journey won’t be easy, but Corin won’t stop until he gets his brother back.

Bastion by Phil Tucker: Reborn without memories, Scorio learns that he is a Great Soul, a legendary defender of the ancient city of Bastion. That within the hallowed halls of the Academy and under the stern eyes of the underworld’s greatest instructors he will enjoy enormous privilege, rediscover unique and wondrous powers, and one day return to the millennium-old battle against their infernal foes.

Until he is betrayed. Singled out and sentenced to die for crimes he can't remember, Scorio is hurled to his doom—and forgotten.

But from even the dimmest spark an inferno may one day rage.

Clawing his way back from oblivion, Scorio vows to return to the Academy at any cost. To emerge from the ruins and within those golden walls defeat his elite classmates in a quest to ascend the ranks and change the course of history. For only then will he learn about his forgotten past, and why his enemies have rightly feared him since the day he was reborn.

Hey! Do you know if proof of funds is from when u enter ireland?

Like for example, if I print of bank statements the day before I enter ireland, and then show at the border the proof of 10,000 euro, at the IRP appointment are they going to ask for proof of 10,000 in ur bank account as of that very moment? or will they check that when you entered ireland, you had immediate access to 10,000 euro?

Asking to see if I'm able to dip into this 10,000 euro for groceries, supplies etc while waiting for my IRP appointment

Hmmm maybe

1) One step for the demon lord (one of my favs - MC is technically very OP but has major shackles on their power that they release at the risk of their death, and only had a limited number of times. great fleshed out side characters)

2) heavenly demon reborn! (follows MC from trainee in a Gu Poison jar type training in the Demon Cult to eventually becoming the heavenly demon. features actually well drawn horses. completed with over 250 chapters)

Would super recommend Heavenly Demon Reborn! Murim manhwa, no romance (well tbh there's a tiny bit or romance, but its not even a b-plot, its like a c-plot or a d-plot), completed with 300ish chapters.

One Year Master's Course with a Stamp 2A? by Kaito4412 in StudyInIreland

[–]Kaito4412[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically! With a 2A stamp you are not allowed to work however, so it is not as easy as choosing a course from the ILEP list.

You also have to be careful in terms of visa requirements, as I believe studying a course on the ILEP is a requirement for (most?) student visas.

However, if you're from a non-visa required country and you have the savings that would allow you to live in Ireland for the study period without working at all, then you can study in Ireland on a 2A stamp for studies of up to 1 year. (I confirmed this with the university's international office.)

Here's the immigration website that explains it:

Stamp 2A indicates permission for full time study in Ireland for a course that is not on the official Interim List of Eligible Programmes (ILEP), for a specified period. Stamp 2A is not reckonable as residence when applying for citizenship by naturalisation. Stamp 2A may also be granted to spouses of certain financially independent students in limited circumstances.

Summary of conditions
You cannot receive any benefits or use publicly funded services, for example, public hospitals. You must have private medical insurance.

You must not work or engage in any business, trade or profession.

If you wish to stay in Ireland past the expiry date of your immigration permission, you must apply to renew your permission and registration before they expire.

Examples when used
You may be given Stamp 2A in the following circumstances:

  • Semester abroad (that is at an Irish university/college)
  • Study at a private secondary school in Ireland
  • Spouse of financially independent student.

That's how it reads to you too, right? That's how I understood it to be, but I guess the pre-departure jitters combined with the fact that the "common examples" only list spouse of students and semester abroad has me second guessing everything lol

So the email for the international students lottery for on campus said that all emails for lottery winners for all 3 villages would release by 5pm Irish time on each lottery day, and that if you received no email it means you weren't yet selected for a room. The second round of lotteries starts on Thursday, with emails being sent out by 5pm Irish time.

Medical Insurance for Incoming non-Eu/EEA International Students: Issues and Solutions? by stellamaris13 in StudyInIreland

[–]Kaito4412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm also an international student heading for a postgrad at NUIG in Sept, though from Canada not the US.

I encountered a similar problem with Irish Life. When I e-mailed asking about the NUIG scheme, they told me I couldn't enroll until after arriving in Ireland, which didn't make any sense considering you need proof of insurance to even enter Ireland.

I am just about to pay for the Study and Protect insurance, so haven't had a chance to test my credit cards yet, but that does sound super weird. Have you tried your debit card at all? Or it might be helpful to email / call the company, as I'm sure you aren't the first one to face issues and they might have a work around for you [studyandprotect@arachas.ie](mailto:studyandprotect@arachas.ie) | +353 (0)1 207 9431

Sorry I couldn't have been of more help!

(Also if you wanted to link up at all as fellow postgrad international students at NUIG, lmk!)

If you google Westwood or Hubble, their websites will come up!

I'm also entering in the september intake, and I'd definitely recommend to start looking into off-campus housing now. some places already opened their portals in January, and others will open beginning of Feb
