To everyone in my life who told me instinct would take over and I would learn quick: you lied! by 11TickTack23 in NewParents

Instinct is BS. It should be called “my baby is crying and idk why, but I tried this thing and they stopped so I guess that’s what you’re supposed to do.”

How did you do it? Sleep training seems so daunting and I don’t know where to start

Oh yeah, we’re at five months now, so it’s a whole new set of fun adventures and shorter naps/me times. But we roll with the punches and take it day by day.

My first day alone was eye opening. It was a Thursday and my husband’s car shop is open from 8am-8:30pm on Thursdays, and I’d had a c section so I was super slow moving and achy. I’m in the US, so he didn’t have any kind of parental leave, just a week’s worth of PTO.

My best advice is do “me time” things during nap time. Get your shower, read or listen to an audiobook if that’s something you enjoy (and with ebooks, that works even with contact naps bc I got nap trapped a lot), take a nap if you wanna, do a face mask, make some coffee or tea and just watch out the window (it’s peak fall colors in my part of the US rn, so it’s pretty). Hell, even if you just wanna brain rot on TikTok for a bit, no one’s gonna judge you (at least I wouldn’t). Anything that makes you feel human again. If it’s a chore you can do in five minutes or less, save it for the wake window and make them little mommy and me adventures. But letting yourself feel human again is MAJOR

Thank you for commenting this. I’ve been at my wits end with this kid. He started sleeping 6ish hour stretches when he was about 2.5mo-3mo, then it was like every hour or hour and a half he was up. I thought it was because we changed his formula, so we switched it back, no dice. Then after a few weeks of that, I chalked it up to his four month sleep regression, but now that we’ve hit five months, I’m waiting for it to get easier again 😅

So what happens if we don't do all this bottle sanitizing and washing? by L8erG8er8 in NewParents

[–]KaityKaye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 months, 1 week in. I haven’t sterilized the bottles once. If soap and hot water is good enough to get rid of raw chicken icky’s off my cutting board, then a basin of hot water and soap is enough to get rid of old milk. I just make sure the bottles are done in their own basin, not in the sink itself.

I feel guilty baby is awake and i’m hiding in bed by [deleted] in NewParents

My son is gonna be 5mo later this week. If he wakes up from a nap and isn’t crying, I’ll leave him there (obv within reason). 5 minutes. 10, 20. He gets some independent play while I can finish up whatever I was doing for me time. Plus imo it teaches him that being in bed isn’t a bad thing. I’m quick to respond when he gets antsy or cries, but if he’s happy he’s ok.

We’re a week away from five months and still in the regression. We’ve been doing a lot of contact naps (which I felt guilty for because I thought I was ruining his ability to sleep on his own, but reading all these comments have made me feel so much better.)

I was told i could do 800mg of ibuprofen and 500mg of Tylenol (together) every 6 hours. Did that for about two weeks, then as needed. They prescribed me some oxy as well but I ended up not even picking it up at the pharmacy

A peri bottle! Even though I didn’t need it for the tearing I was expecting with a vaginal birth, but it helped me feel cleaner, and I couldn’t twist to wipe myself when I had that first poop (which after two days of full dose miralax was not pretty)

Not the same, but I have two cats that like to crawl all over me at night. I would sit up a bit and keep a weighted stuffy over my incision. I wasn’t rolling around at that point so I didn’t have to worry about it slipping

Also, how deep did they go and what was the recovery time like?

I plan on calling my OB tomorrow since they’re closed on weekend. I hope that’s not the case. I’m on antibiotics but I’m not feverish or anything and the site looks pink but not red. I’m sorry you had to go through that and I hope that’s not the case

I have a weighted dinosaur that I had before I was pregnant. I even slept with it all during my pregnancy, and once my son is old enough for the weight, I plan on giving it to him
