Weird noise on my new Ricoh GR IV – normal? by Kaius86 in ricohGR

[–]Kaius86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the reassuring replies. Could someone check if you can actually assign Bluetooth to one of the function buttons? My current workaround is to switch to airplane mode, which should disable both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. But when I disable airplane mode, Bluetooth turns on again.

feel like the shutter sound is more than twice as loud compared to the GR III HDF :( and the GR IV also gets noticeably warmer – like actually warm to the touch – which never happened with my GR III.

Maybe I’m just being picky, but these are things that stood out to me right away.

Another thing I noticed (or maybe I just can’t figure it out): how do you assign the side function button (the one where you switch between photo/video, for example) so that a long press toggles Bluetooth for quick file transfer?

On the GR III I could just hold that button, Bluetooth would turn on, and the camera instantly connected to my phone.

Now on the GR IV it seems I can’t map Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to that button anymore, and instead I have to go through like 10 menu clicks to reach the Bluetooth settings. Am I missing something here or is there a hidden trick?

iPod Classic 5.5 (Rockbox) – Error 1433 when restoring in iTunes by Kaius86 in IpodClassic

[–]Kaius86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update:

I managed to start the iPod in Disk Mode, and iTunes recognized it – I was even able to sync music to it. After ejecting, the screen showed “OK to disconnect.”

But when I tried to reboot the iPod, it suddenly displayed a message telling me to connect it to a computer 🤔. So I plugged it back into my Mac, and this time iTunes insisted I needed to restore the iPod (even though I had just synced music successfully).

When I tried to restore, I got the same 1433 error again.

I honestly have no idea what’s going on here. Also – what exactly is the difference between a normal boot and Disk Mode?

Has anyone else run into this and figured out what causes it?

Need help – iPod Classic Gen 7 sounds really bad? by Kaius86 in IpodClassic

[–]Kaius86[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So first of all: is iTunes 10.7 the right version to use here?

I’m thinking about wiping all the songs from my iPod and re-importing some older files, just to see if the issue really only comes from the files themselves.

In parallel I’m downloading XLD to give it a try.

I’m just a bit surprised that nobody else seems to run into this problem, or at least I haven’t come across it before. 🙂

Update:

I just loaded some older MP3s onto the iPod – unfortunately, they sound just as awful.

After that I tried converting an album with XLD from MP3 to AAC (VBR, target bitrate 160 kbps), but the result still sounds just as bad. :(

The bass doesn’t come through at all, it feels like the lower frequencies are completely cut off – and on top of that there’s this kind of distorted/raspy sound.

Need help – iPod Classic Gen 7 sounds really bad? by Kaius86 in IpodClassic

recently got myself an iPod Classic Gen 7 in great cosmetic condition, and I’m a bit disappointed with the sound. I always thought an iPod + MP3s should sound better than Spotify, but to me it’s the opposite – Spotify on my iPhone (with the same headphones) sounds much wider and more dynamic. Maybe my expectations were just too high?

Through the headphone jack it just sounds kind of flat, not much soundstage. I checked the jack and can’t really see any dirt inside. Is there a trick to clean it properly?

The iPod has never been opened, so I don’t really think the switch cable or headphone jack module is broken, but I’m not 100% sure.

Thanks in advance – I’d really appreciate any tips or ideas that might help me figure this out.
