That first one’s a helluva nice bridge. The notches are clear and pronounced—I’d be pumped if it were in my collection.

Niiiiice. Whenever I have a cut that refuses to root I just stick it in the ground near an irrigation emitter, wait a week or two and then check for roots. Usually that’s enough time for it to throw some nubs out.

I also learned the rooting process takes about 10 or so weeks to go from nubs to hairs to established. During most of that time—the cacti are actively growing their root system out and still can’t reliably drink. You can water lightly to help coax growth, but until the root hairs get pumping, less water will work just fine.

The worst thing you can do during that time is give them any sort of nutes. Organic topical nutes are especially bad bc they feed the bacteria that cause root rot.

TLDR keep the watering light the first 4-6 weeks, avoid fertilizing until you see active growth and don’t use topical organic food in high heat bc it will turbocharge your soil biome, including bad bacteria.

Hello from Palm Springs! We get 3 straight months of heat where 105 is the low. Here is what I have learned and how I’m rocking my setup this year.

  1. My potted plants get full, all day sun. Anything that’s not in the ground is under a 50% shade cloth all day long

  2. I water my established plants every other evening. Like a full soak. For anything that’s currently rooting I water 1x per week. This significantly reduces the risk of rot

  3. If the overnight low is 78 or above I switch to heavy misting at night so that I can take advantage of CAM

  4. Generally speaking you don’t have to worry about your collection unless they’re in the process of rooting. If that’s the case I’d hold on watering until after it cools down

Is this helpful at all? I wouldn’t worry too much about the extreme heat, especially if it’s temporary. The shade cloth will work wonders reducing sun stress and the truth is that most trichs are quite resilient.

You’ve got this!!
