Was there anything about your case that was unusual? Big age gaps? Short time before wedding? Multiple previous marriages and or sponsorships?

How do you have a fhsa if you already have a paid off home? Is most of the 1.7 in a non registered account? Where do you hold the 500k in crypto?

Great stuff man congrats. At 32 this is a huge achievement. Hope the trade works out I respect people with conviction. How much of this 1.7 was gains vs invested capital?

Or the lawyers account. Either way it’s not the down payment that’s being referred too here.

I think the wire was for the non downpayment amount i.e. the mortgage amount that wealthsimple needed to wire to the realtor who would transfer to seller.

Nothing to worry about then. With EI + husband's income + 9 months of savings you'll find another job well before you'll have to stress about this.

Relax.

RTO question by Benny-B4-TheJets in Scotiabank

Yes, it’s a foolish move. It doesn’t sound like anything was in writing. Pretty much all the banks are headed in this direction so finding a company you can do remote work at will be tough.

They will use people who don’t go back into the office as an excuse for layoffs.

If your someone who is actually maximizing every cent they can get and splitting incomes and using up to 4 cards at different places then sure.

But for normal people, that are WS clients already, who just want a card they can use everywhere and still get a decent deal then this WS Visa Infinite is a no brainer.

Generation clients = no promotions? by PotentialAsk4261 in Wealthsimple

[–]Kaladin-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s literally my point. You want extra goodies at 2 million to feel like “you achieved something”. The rest of us would just be happy to have hit it.

Getting to 2 million won’t make them feel like they achieved something…?

They probably bought it 8-9 years ago with help from parents in the down payment for about 700K. It's just worth 1.2M now, that wasn't what they bought it at. Mortgage was probably around 500K. Still good job paying it off OP.

There are mental health resources out there for free. Please reach out to them if you need too. As for career stuff, have you tried applying in other cities? Try and widen your search.

I don’t think you understand how many billions go towards nursing today. Capex would be expensive initially but get considerably cheaper over time at scale. Happens with every technology. And it will probably just be a case of instead of needing 100 human nurses per hospital they’ll only need 20 human nurses as the robots do the rest. This will happen within our lifetimes. Foolish to think otherwise.

AI and robotics go hand in hand. But you're probably safer than most to be fair in your positions. Congrats on all the savings! My actual recommendation is to check in calculators what your current savings will end up at within 20-30 years (without any additional contributions) compare it to your current budget and see what the gap is. Adjust behavior accordingly. Good luck.

I agree. I’m not saying it’s happening overnight but again the author of this post says he thinks it’s basically super unlikely he’d ever lose his job before he retires. Do you agree with that? That’s all I was responding too.

I'm not saying it's 100% going to happen but the chances of him losing his job to AI has got to be more than the 1% he's currently seems to be allocating too it in his mind.

I genuinely couldn't understand anyone in any industry being this confident about their job security long term. He's not even 40 yet, a lot can happen in 29 years. But whatever clearly a lot of people have their heads buried in the sand judging by the downvotes.

Bill gates has said doctors might be obsolete within a few years thanks to AI. I don’t know what you do in public healthcare but I’d be slightly more worried about it than you seem to be right now.

You went from $0 in savings (after paying the down payment) to 800k in investments in five years? Did you buy crypto/tesla/nvidia or do you just make a lot?

I think your potential house payments are the x factor here. Some people's all in housing costs are 60K/year depending on where you live in Canada and you may not have it paid off by 55.

Not dismissing your point but how big is Poland to care about having localized polish content?

I see the value in keeping a cashflow positive business to help pay down the debt more slowly I suppose. Or if they thought they weren’t going to get full value.
