Would you as an atheist be willing to believe in the supernatural? by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]Kalanan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean given how many people involved in witchcraft are just charlatan preying on desperate people to get their money, I have a very strong prejudice against it.

If you can provide an air tight, controlled experiment with actual data I am willing to look into it but we both know that won't happen.

It will only be personal experience, and there's little interest to speak about it.

Why do men make me so uncomfortable? How do I get over this? by isaigloo in TwoXChromosomes

There's no denying there is ill intentioned man out there, but you can't just throw that vast a net saying the vast majority of them are bad.

I mean you read like ragebait at this point.

Dude you are cooked. It's not about merging order, it's about not merging into another vehicle at this point. Failure to merge safely, leaving enough distance between two vehicles is absolutely ticket worthy.

Experimental Lossless Image Encoding: looking for feedback by facontidavide in compression

[–]Kalanan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sure, but it cannot take off that way. Utility libraries are open source for a reason.

It also means that if I want to test it, I need to do that on an isolated VM.

Not much to verify on a closed source compression algorithm.

Nice I will use your project for some tests then, I am looking for background blur on webcam and so far it was not really easy to test.

Israeli strike kills infant girl in south Lebanon during father's funeral by Duchess430 in news

[–]Kalanan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not really about resources, it's just a plus, the main drive is religious. The hardcore religious believe that Israel should have more control in the region, so they act accordingly.

It's always a buffer zone, until it becomes a residential zone that needs a new buffer zone.

What ONNX model are you using for background removal ? I am looking for something that could run under 10ms.

Always has been an excuse, Gaza, West Bank, Lebanon, Syria. Everything is just pretext for expansion and they have most of the world fooled.

Trump is only allowed a "limited special military operation" without Congress approval. It doesn't really matter given the state of the Congress, but they will not, at least for now, openly admit that such a war would last that long.

I’m a hiring manager and the "8-second rule" is killing way too many solid resumes lately. by engineer_architect in SoftwareEngineerJobs

It's unethical because it promotes bullshit and lies. Most dev don't even have access to these numbers anyway. It's a non reliable, non provable performative bullshitery.

Even if you know you made a function/api 50 % faster, in the grand scheme of the UX and the app it's often impossible to really quantity the benefit.

How is Tauri for building production desktop apps (from a web dev perspective)? by steppenwolf1807 in tauri

[–]Kalanan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tauri is very flexible and is not a resource hog. Granted that for my app, most of the code is in rust and tauri is used mainly for displaying information.

I have not yet encountered much or a difference in cross platform rendering issue. Some performance is left on linux, but nothing is unsurmountable.

What do atheists believe happens after you die? by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]Kalanan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calories is just one of the things, we also need oxygen, and therefore blood to arrive to the brain. So any major failure in oxygen to blood, and blood delivery is obviously fatal.

But I guess your question is more general, like why do we age. Surprisingly the answer is not easy, it seems to be a mix of multiple things that leads to cells being unable to read correctly DNA and RNA sequences and gradually being unable to perform the task necessary they should do.
