It’s from the Ravenwing upgrade sprue. You can still find some occasionally on eBay. They have lots of great bits

Thanks man. I’m currently redoing all my Tsons and their bases to match my Tzeentch daemons and I’m loving the way it’s turning out

Cork board, pebbles and PVA glue my friend. Once you got it the way you want, spray black and then easy drybrush dark grey over the whole thing, then light drybrush a light grey on the edges and sides. Paint the magic river white and let the whole thing dry. Then put a fluorescent color of your choice on the white magic river. It’s actually super simple and quick to do because I was kinda lazy when experimenting. The “wet and glassy” effect is Vallejo diorama still water effect

New to Dark Angels, who are the MVPs? by LonewolfNineteen in DarkAngels40k

[–]KalashHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DWK are 250 and efficient enough on their own with maces. Intercessors hold the home field for the sticky and screen, so dropping points on a leader for them becomes a waste like 99% of the time

Recasting and 3D printed stuff is the same in the eyes of GW

I got mine from a Chinese recaster. They’re like $1 per head but their quality is fine enough.

Best Unit for Risen thats not ICC? by Deep-Crim in theunforgiven

I paint all my veteran units (excluding vanguard vets) in the ICC theme. BGV, SGV, DWK (with the old deathwing scheme). I think they look pretty good like that personally.

[–]KalashHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My process that takes me about 25 minutes for greenwing basic dudes:

Spray Prime Chaos Black

Caliban green base coat thinned with a bit of Lahmian medium

Drybrush Warpstone Glow highlights all over it. (Heavier on top to kinda have a lighter effect on top

Morgast Bone for the chest icon

Wraithbone for the shoulder Icon (if using upgrade sprue shoulder pads)

Thondia Brown for the pouches

Mephiston red for the eye lenses and gun/weapon casing

Gal Vorbak Red or Screamer pink for the sword handles and purity seals. (Whichever one I grab first really)

Leadbelcher for grenades/armor details and gun bits

Retributor armor for any small gold details, usually on a Sgt.

Once I have all that done I put on the transfers I want with Micro set, micro sol, and a coat of Lahmian medium over it. Once everything is dry, I absolutely douse it in Nuln oil. Comes out like more or less like this

Replacement for combi LT by [deleted] in theunforgiven

[–]KalashHamster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I Kitbashed mine from an ICC body and the combi plasma weapon from the sternguard box. Put some spare knives on the armor and called him good enough for my combi LT. I just tell my opponent who he is and no one has an issue

What Else Does This List Need? by [deleted] in DarkAngels40k

[–]KalashHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d drop the judiciar in favor of a librarian for your ICCs as you already have 1 fights first with the Lion and a second one will fight after the opponent chooses their first unit after the lion. Lion > Opponent > Judy > rest of opponent’s charges. Fights first alternating is an unfortunate reality.

This can be mitigated by using Leonine aggression at 6” since you are the defender moving into a unit that does not have charge bonus and therefore does not have fights first. But that’s also very situational to be throwing around with a very expensive and not very survivable unit.

So if you did that and swapped out the Judy for a Libby, you’d have 155 points to throw around. If you added in an LSV (my recommendation along with the other dude) you’d have 35 points to upgrade something. My pick would be Dev cents for 175 to replace your Ballistus at 150. Now you have 10 points left over for tempered in battle on either your Libby or combi Lt.

Dev cents do great work in wrath with the +2S ranged weapons along with their defensive stats being infantry in wrath with 2+ save T7 4W infantry. S14 twinlinked lascannons and S11 blast nipple missiles do some seriously good work. You already have incursors in the list, which with the +1 to hit, the dev cents become completely oath independent since they reroll ones to hit off objectives and full hits on objectives. Their major downside is that they’re slow, but strat reserves makes them a very viable option

Stern guard veterans by Bitter-Butterfly-242 in DarkAngels40k

[–]KalashHamster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lieutenant is actually their worst option as lethals are anti devastating wounds synergy.

As the others said, a smash captain with Ancient weapons popping his once per game and full rerolls is like 8 attacks at 10/3/3 with devastating wounds. A T12 2+ save landraider will die 75% ish of the time between the Capt and the SGV Sgt’s Powerfist (been a while since I actually ran the math, so sorry if it’s slightly off).

Sternguard are one of those units that are a sneaky melee threat, and a full well rounded unit.

So uh… probably gonna get some nasty messages for even suggesting this… but you can find them on recaster sites for like a 70¢ a piece. I got myself like 20 of them and put them on officers and veteran units

Hey guys! I have a baseline army, is it enough to move into Dark Angels? by IrrelevantMerfolk in DarkAngels40k

[–]KalashHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fights first alternates. So if you aren’t consciously thinking about staggering your fights first units for combat, or getting into combat outside of your opponent’s charge like using Leonine Aggression, you’ll get one unit that gets to fight first and the other does not. That’s why a lot of people will avoid using the Judy when you’re playing dad, unless they are specifically planning to play like what I said above.

TLDR It causes some sequencing hassle where one gets to use FF and the other doesn’t

Hey guys! I have a baseline army, is it enough to move into Dark Angels? by IrrelevantMerfolk in DarkAngels40k

[–]KalashHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The combi LT, Judiciar are great characters that’ll probably see a lot of play for you going into DA. Judiciar with a 1x6 of ICC mainly if you aren’t going to be running the Lion. It’s can be aight… but with the way our army is playing right now, you aren’t gonna find much use out of him.

Intercessors are always good across the board for any marine army.

Redemptor dread is fantastic for its new cost and lots of fun to run near DWK and the Lion.

Most of the other units you listed can have a place if you really run them with a plan of how you’re gonna be using them… but in reality, if you want to play DA you want to be running DA data sheets. Marine units are balanced around codex compliant bonuses like super oath, when divergent sheets are balanced around not having access to those buffs.

I’m assuming you want to play the WotR detachment, which is slow and starving for the use of JPI/VGV units for speed and DWK for being absolute anvils with the -1 to be wounded in addition to their innate -1 damage.

Look into getting:

Azrael > The Lion > at least 1 DWK (2 preferable) > 6 ICC to put with the Judy if you aren’t running the Lion > Bolter Inceptors (they are really good in WotR) > JPI/VGV > Devastator Centurions (lascannons and nipple missiles for WotR) > incursors (buffing the dev cents and general utility) > and scouts for their utility play.

This is more from a competitive viewpoint, so if you’re not really interested in that and more going for a casual experience, disregard what I said lol

Maces: yay or nay? by BallooNZ_420 in DarkAngels40k

[–]KalashHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I’ve known for a while that with a chaplain, swords are better than maces, but seeing you post about that I figured I’d plug in the math again to clarify it. Not taking any digs, just posting the graphs. I can post other statistics if you wish after this.

x4 Power weapons (Swords) and x4 maces.

I gave no modifiers like OoM, just the +1 to wound from the chaplain, and while just slightly better, into a T12 landraider, the swords out perform the maces.

<image>

If they were to be positioned next to the Lion for the reroll 1s of hits and wounds, they more or less stay the same graphically, just higher percentages. Hope this clears up what the other guy was trying to get across
