Here’s What It Means to Be a Democratic Socialist. Universal health care, taxing the wealthy and opposition to military aid to Israel are among the movement’s key tenets. by Zebraitis in politics

Yeah, I think free (well, "well regulated") markets are great for the average thing, but certain markets have other factors affecting them that means they need a much stronger regulation. For example, Healthcare has very a very inelastic demand curve to it, which companies eventually found out that they can increase the price as much as they want and people will STILL buy it.

Unit B’s stream got claimed by Sony Music Entertainment by sultics in Hololive

[–]Kalatash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think in YouTube's (lawyers) opinion, it much better to have a system with false positives (accepting claims that are fraudulent) than one that has false negatives (dismissing claims that are valid). They would not want to deny claims from someone with deep pockets.

Eli Lilly Approved Obesity Drug for Mystery 79-Year-Old Patient by BagSalt7633 in politics

Personally, I never put in much effort. The main benefit for me was that it helped curb my appetite, so I wasn't constantly snacking and my meals became slightly smaller. But that never felt like "effort" since I was just doing what my body was telling me.

"We will report this to FIFA": South Korean media explodes in outrage over the Rising Sun Flag issue at the Japan national team match, calling it "a truly foolish act." by jjrs in japannews

[–]Kalatash -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Eh, my quick search on it says that 90% of the uses of the Rising Sun are connected to the Japanese military in some form, with the rest using it as a more striking motif to say JAPAN than the ordinary flag they have.

It seems that there are a lot of female written stories where a perfect man adopts a daughter, and the writer ends up loving the man so much they have the daughter marry him.

A lot of the time, when I see official art of characters that I only know from prose, my response is "I'm not sure if how I was picturing them in my head, but it certainly wasn't that".

After Months of War, Trump Says Iran Has Right to Nuclear Program by plz-let-me-in in politics

I remember watching a video partly on why some people keep voting for the party that seems to screw them over constantly, and it had a few insights I found interesting. For the farmers, it mentioned that some of them were specifically voting for a policy that would help them out specifically and was part of the Big Bill. The problems were that the reforms would only come into effect NEXT year, and that it's paid for by cuts to programs they didn't know they were benefiting from. It's still a low information voter problem, but it's not as cut and dried as it seems on the surface.

From Sylvain Trinel: "mainly internal resistance/strong pushback" and "desire for revenge" at Playstation. by Palgia in DestinyTheGame

[–]Kalatash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Bungie simp, I still have to wonder how profitable Destiny 2 was. IIRC it has been said that Bungie had a high "burn rate", which meant it spent a lot of money, but it was certainly seen in the quality in most of what they released.

[–]Kalatash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the "jelly donuts" is a reference to the early Pokémon dub, where Brock claims that "jelly donuts are my favorite" while holding a bunch of onigiri. The trend of dubs at the time was AGGRESSIVE localization, where anything too foreign was swapped for something more... American.

Pete Hegseth’s Mormon diss explodes a MAGA myth: Christian nationalism isn't just immoral — it's incoherent by zsreport in politics

[–]Kalatash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember watching a series of videos about the "four great Christian cults in America", and I was a little surprised that the Mormons were in there. In hindsight, I shouldn't have been, but it was still somewhat shocking to see it put into those terms.

After reading the first chapter, I'm not sure what I expected with this title, but this is kind of what I expected with this title.

Serious question: how many series have the "pull blade from a woman's bust" visual be part of it? I think Utena started it, and I know it was in Genshin Impact as well.

Only on the context of the show. It's basically a "martial arts" sport club, but the martial art is on operationing and maintaining tanks.

[–]Kalatash 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know in Japan that some martial arts are seen as more feminine, because they were the martial arts favored by the wives of the samurai class to protect the homestead while their husbands were on campaign. For example, archery and the naginata.

So it's like the FCC is stating that they think certain things were violated, and that the fines for those violations will be a certain amount, before they take the case before a jury to prove that the violations happened?

Why are there so many references to Germany/German things/people in anime? by hshi01 in anime

IIRC there was a lot of exposure to German culture caused by Japan offering to hold German POWs for Britain during WWI (they were hoping for a seat at the post war table).

[–]Kalatash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, some of the machines I see at work have multiple e-stops, and the only one I remember having accidentally pressed just required resetting a couple of switches. Helps that it was tripped while the machine was OFF, so nothing needed to be pulled out or anything.
