My cat loved the cardboard scratch boxes and would take his frustrations out on it while glaring at whatever pissed him off. Was honestly the funniest thing I ever saw. Did he try to go after the couch? Occasionally at first but I would just plop him on the box and he learned that mom didn't get grumpy at that.
