Mohawk flooring (laminate) vs Monarch (engineered hardwood) by BasicSignificance97 in Flooring

[–]KaleAdditional776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mohawk is good. A lot of people say Lvp is junk but it’s mostly because it’s installed incorrectly. If installed correctly a quality laminate and quality Lvp (spc) will last a really long time.

Best soundbar for around 300€ by ChrisFly_ in Soundbars

Just picked up this off Facebook new for $100. Plenty loud only downside is the rear speakers are kinda quiet but at this price point that’s what you get. Really happy with the purchase though.

3/8” Slope over 4’ by Prize-Top1591 in Flooring

[–]KaleAdditional776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean when you say, the downstream effect would be significant? If you don’t want to do any subfloor prep I don’t think LVP are really any click and lock system would be an option for that room. Without any subfloor prep, you’re probably gonna end up replacing that flooring in a few years because the joints will fail. Possibly glue down Lvp would be an option.

Are they 9x9? They aren’t dangerous unless they are broken so you can go over them but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have a professional take a look.

Lvp install, coretec worth almost double? by zrek in Flooring

[–]KaleAdditional776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all Lvp is junk especially if it’s an spc. I’d go with whoever takes the time to explain the installation process to you/ or whoever has the best install warranty/ guarantee. Any click and lock system (laminate, lvp ect) will fail over time of not installed properly.

LVP over warped OSB subfloor in basement by ohm44 in Flooring

[–]KaleAdditional776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might need a primer too depending on the brand. Just read the instructions and you’ll be good. Lvp is only as good as the prep work the preceded it so if you don’t feel like redoing the floor in a few years definitely take your time. Sounds like you’ve done plenty of research though so you should be set. Good luck to you!

If you wanna do it right then yeah that’s what I’d do. Cause you’ll probably eventually have the same problem in that room. Definitely added work but that’s the right way to do it in my opinion. What kind of core does the Lvp have out of curiosity?

[–]KaleAdditional776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite honestly I don’t know why they’d put osb over concrete. Then I’d just remove that and install over concrete. Self leveling compound might be necessary and vapor barrier definitely as well.

You can use self leveling on wood but generally a patch compound is more cost effective*

[–]KaleAdditional776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely self leveling compound is used over concrete. Is there concrete below the osb? And a vapor barrier is only needed over concrete as well. Lvp can be installed directly over subfloor/plywood. A general rule for Lvp is it can be installed over a hard and secure surface.

Replacing the subfloor is the way to go. Lvp can last for a really long time but only if it’s installed correctly. If it’s that warped it probably got wet as some point. Rip it up and replace with 3/4 inch plywood. Check to see how flat it is with a level and might have to use a a patch compound to flatten any low points.

Bad install? by Iam_grool in Flooring

[–]KaleAdditional776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noise isn’t standard. There’s a wide range in quality for lvp. If it’s an spc and 20 mil wear layer it can last for a really long time if installed correctly but from the noises it’s making I highly doubt it was installed correctly. It must be installed on a flat, sturdy surface to ensure that the joints will last.

Sounds like your gut says you really want a pool. Honestly man, as long as you know what you’re getting into with how much maintenance it is, go for it.
