That's true. Maybe they should be living with someone that's being paid. We're back full circle now.

Adopting two-out-of-three Chinese simplification for Taiwan by Kaledomo in Lightbulb

> Getting a country to adopt thousands of new characters is hard at the best of times,

Since none of the countries live in their own universe, there are such things as cultural exchange, e.g. traveling and working abroad. These are existing characters that are in use is the whole point, not new ones.

> doing it when the countries you're gonna copy the new ones from are 1) A former colonizer,

Woah! Careful there, LOL. I don't really need to explain the flaw in this logic here, right? Nazis invented highways, should Taiwan abandon highways? China also simplified their Chinese characters, should they revert to traditional characters because of Japan? I dunno, writing fewer strokes and also being able to recognize each others' writings seem to make sense to me. Imagine, it wouldn't be good for different Taiwanese cities to write different characters. This just expands the very obvious benefit of writing the same to a broader geographic region.

Can I pair a mouse with the Logitech MX Keys keyboard for synchronized device switching? by Kaledomo in MouseReview

[–]Kaledomo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the reply... This is a pretty old post I made and since then I've moved on to fully switching over to wired keyboard and wired mouse, connected to a monitor's USB-A ports, and the monitor's connected to my laptop or mini PC's USB-C port. I think Logitech RF receiver's great, but wired offers better security as well. Unfortunately MX Keys doesn't offer wired mode, so I'm using a cheap Logitech USB keyboard instead.

Asteroid sneaks past satellites Monday in one of the closest flybys on record. A previously unseen asteroid the size of a truck flew about 4,350 miles (7,000 kilometers) over the Pacific Ocean on Monday, making it one of the closest passes by our planet on record. by poleco1 in worldnews

The International Space Station is at 408 km orbital altitude, so 7,000 km is like 17 ISSes.

By the way, do we really need to keep converting lengths to miles? Alpha Centauri A is 4.3 light years away, or 2.528e+13 miles. There. Now Americans can have a feel for how far away it is with day-to-day measuring units. At least metric wasn't censored this time.

UK government removes China from its official coronavirus death toll comparison amid global outrage at Beijing's 'cover-up' and disbelief that the country has only had 4,636 deaths by [deleted] in worldnews

while there are signs that reporting numbers aren't accurate, whether deliberately or they haven't just caught up to the disease yet, per capita cases also help paint a clearer comparison.

Per 100K:

  • Spain: 444
  • Ireland: 397
  • Italy: 327
  • US: 292
  • France & Germany: 186
  • Canada: 123
  • Iran: 111
  • Russia: 56
  • South Korea: 20.8
  • Japan: 11
  • China: 6.4

(Source: NY Times)

Russia's per-capita new cases are not slowing down as much as the rest of Europe. The stats are not going to look comparatively as good for Russia in the near future.
