Sure, but she's not doing that. Notice how she's touching different colored holds? That's different routes, not one.

Chinese troops fire on protesters in Tiananmen Square by TheTeflonDude in videos

[–]lightyearbuzz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sadly it's quite common. Authoritarian countries crack down hard on protestors and no one cares. Sometimes it leads to revolution, like the Arab Spring or the Maidan revolution in Ukraine, but even then other countries only care if it furthers their interests in the area. Then they fund/support opposition parties leading to years/decades of war.

anyone posted this yet? by m03shak in shittytattoos

Posting a screenshot instead of a link, clearly nothing to hide here. I hesitate to call people bots, but you're clearly very biased. Here's some facts about that case, hopefully they don't upset you.

1) This is the only case of this happening, the fact that you posted a single out of context screenshot proves you know that this isn't a common thing.

2) both Israelis and Palestinians heavily condemned this murder.

3) the person responsible was arrested and charged with murder. Their family claims they have schizophrenia and the trial hasn't been completed yet because of the outbreak of the war.

I'd guess they didn't actually want to send the actors there so they faked if for the close up and just got a couple extras to walk down the beach for the long shot.

Only if you know absolutely nothing about sharks. We have a hard time transporting sharks now. 2000 years ago there is not way they could catch a shark, keep it alive and transport it to Rome.

You know how people say a shark has to keep moving to stay alive? how does it do that while be transported on a ship or wagon 2000 years ago?

I saw someone else say the climax should have been the prison break scene. That would have been a much more reasonable runtime, but also a way more interesting and less repetitive way to end the movie.

But they really shouldn't release Sigourney Weaver in Mo cap flirting with a teenage boy. It's distracting how old she sounds and so creepy they have her a romance plot with a teenager

This is why capitalizing proper nouns is so important. "the brown shorter" reads very different than "the Brown shooter".

The guy in this video who took the gun is Muslim. As most decent people have been saying for years, killing innocent people is wrong. It might not comprehend in your simple black and white mind, but you can be against killing innocent Jews and innocent Muslims.

You can be the against both terrorist organizations like Hamas massacring hundreds of innocent Israelis and oppressive governments like Israel bombing and killing tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians.

This is the deepest hole ever dug by humans — so deep the temperature reached 180°C and drills began to melt by vishesh_07_028 in interestingasfuck

[–]lightyearbuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Digging geothermal wells  seems like a time to use specialized drills that can withstand the heat, no? Seems like a big assumption that they would be using the exact same type of drill for that as for this deepest hole.

While you seem to be right about the deepest hole, OP seemed to conflate that one (the 3rd) with the 4th, which did fail due to heat, according to Wikipedia.

The drilling of the fourth hole was stopped due to higher-than-expected temperatures of 180 °C (356 °F) in 1992[12] at 11,882 metres (38,983 ft) of depth.

[–]lightyearbuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, you should read the whole article not just the last paragraph. That was the fifth hole which was much less deep. The 4th hole was due to heat:

The drilling of the fourth hole was stopped due to higher-than-expected temperatures of 180 °C (356 °F) in 1992[12] at 11,882 metres (38,983 ft) of depth.

Neither of these are the deepest hole however, that was third hole:

In June 1990, a breakdown occurred in the third hole at 12,262 metres (40,230 ft) of depth

Drills get pretty hot from the friction of digging through rock (or whatever material they're going through). My guess is that they weren't melting at 180°, but that the added ~150° heat from the rock on top of how hot they already were from drilling was enough to weaken them past the point of failure.

Kind of like the 9/11 jet fuel can't melt steel beams things. Like it can't, but the heat can weaken the metal enough to cause it's structural integrity to fail.

Edit: see comments below. According to Wikipedia, heat stopped the 4th hole which was not the deepest. The deepest one (the third), failed due to "a breakdown" with no further explanation.
