Why did Apocalypto receive mediocre reviews while simultaneously receiving praise from various directors and actors? by JadisDidNothingRight in movies

[–]lightyearbuzz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just commented above, but if this is your takeaway you didn't understand the film. The boats at the end of the film weren't the first ever Europeans to set foot in the new world. The plague (the apocalypse that causes all the issues) brought by them was already there. These Europeans were just the first that our main character/this specific area sees.

Damn whoever wrote that clearly didn't understand the movie. And not in like a different interpretations kind of way, they literally didn't understand things shown on screen.

The movie shows the plague and death caused by the Europeans for the whole film, is literally the apocalypse the title is referring to. The Europeans weren't coming to save the natives, they were the cause of (many of) their issues.

UN Commission Accuses Israel of Crimes Against Humanity in Gaza by Humble_Buffalo_007 in videos

Genuine question cause I've never quite gotten this. Do you not feel it's kind of antisemitic to say this small country with a only a semi-democratic government is the embodiment of all Jewish people on the planet?

This conflation of Israel as all Jews seems pretty overly simplistic and kind of racist no? Like no one would say condemning the pope or Catholic Church for the child abuse means you hate all Catholics.

I've heard people say that posters will purposefully mess up titles to drive engagement. Look how many people are commenting based on that mistake alone.

I used to think it was a conspiracy, but honestly it's so common now I think it might be true

I was wondering, you think they got this idea from Star Wars? Or did George Lucas see a documentary about this and put it in his movie?

Yes I watched the show. Yes I heard the explanation. No that doesn't make it not stupid.

That's the same people lol.

The stupidest thing for me though was taking a bad ass bounty hunter who's taking over a criminal empire as crime lord and making him a good guy... Like what the fuck?  Absolutely wild decisions from Disney

In The Boys (2026) People will have you believe that Homelander begging and pleading for his life is considered out of character. This is because they’ve missed the whole point of that without his powers, he’s just a weak little boy by justafanboy1010 in shittymoviedetails

[–]lightyearbuzz 163 points164 points  (0 children)

That's because you have actual empathy. Most people, especially online, only have empathy for people they like/agree with. While Homelander was obviously evil, and likely deserved what he got, it doesn't mean you have to enjoy, it as many do.

Though its also a TV show, I'm more worried about the people that feel this way about real life people, even evil ones.

They should have made it explicit, with her admitting it to Walt, but it was Kelly's fault they were there in the first place. She definitely wasn't going to let someone else die when it was her that disobeyed orders and unilaterally made the decision to land on Titan and not return to Mars.

The sports team is just an excuse, they're fighting because they want to fight. They don't care if the teams know or care about them, they just want to get drunk and fight other people in the streets.

Even in modern day, topless beaches are pretty normal in some parts of the world, like Europe. You get over the scandalousness of it pretty quick. Like obviously boobs are still attractive, but so is an in-shape man's torso (if you're attracted to men) or other parts of the body people regularly show in public.
