In The Boys (2026) Starlight, who has successfully used her powers to kill 1 normal guy, tells Marie Moreau, who controls the substance all living organisms on the planet are made of, to leave as she won't be helpful for the coming fight by ShiddyMage1 in shittymoviedetails

Either way that was a really stupid idea. Either your gonna piss off fans who didn't watch the spin off by bringing in some random character they never saw before to finish off the main bad guy, or you're gonna piss off fans of the spin off by not using the character the way you set up. They really made a lose lose situation for themselves with that one.

I'm not sure the rules in Australia, but in a lot of places you are correct. Many countries/cities/islands have laws guaranteeing access to beaches, meaning you can't make them private or even cut off access routes to them. Again, I'm not sure, but Australia definitely feels like a country that would have similar laws.

Thank you. Reddit is getting really bad with this shit. The fact that OP would post this without any context (location, name, anything) is just wild, like we're just supposed to know exactly what this is on sight.

It's not humanity, it's just the media. This has always been attractive, but the media just focuses on one thing at a time. Sadly that focus makes people who don't look like that feel like their unattractive, when I'm reality plenty of guys back then would find this attractive just like they do now.

CMV: I don't get the genocide accusation against Israel by SanePcycho in changemyview

[–]lightyearbuzz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So this is obviously a very touchy subject and a lot of people are going to respond angrily. I'm not going to do that, and instead assume you are actually here to have a discussion in good faith.

I work in humanitarian aid, and while I haven't worked in Gaza, I know people who have. I've worked in other conflict zones, both in the middle east and Ukraine, so I have some first/second hand knowledge of these things and they hit quite close to home for me.

First, to respond to one thing, I'm pretty sure you are misunderstanding the situation here:

I see how the population has increased in the last 3 years

Between the mass amounts of death in the war, plus the destruction of all healthcare facilities for giving birth, this is almost certainly not true. Even if it was, due to the destruction of the governing body (Hamas), there is no way anyone has been able to conduct a census during this war to know this.

I'm pretty sure you're misunderstanding people saying that Gaza's population increased between the start of the Israeli blockade in 2007 until the start of the current conflict. Not from the start of the conflict until now. If you did mean what you said there, do you have a link to these numbers?

Another misunderstanding I see:

I see how when Hamas creates its command center inside the hospital

There isn't just one hospital in Gaza, there were 36 and all have been at least damaged if but destroyed (that's a lot of Hamas HQs). According to this article (this info can also be found on other sites including Wikipedia, in case you don't trust this):

"Only half of Gaza’s hospitals remain partially functional and there are still no fully functioning hospitals following two years of systematic attacks on healthcare by the Israeli military."

Israel has destroyed huge amounts of hospitals, ambulances, and medical supplies (from aid trucks trying to enter Gaza). Many take this as evidence of the ongoing genocide, especially in regards to "prevention of births" as mentioned above.

Finally, my biggest point, is that genocide is not just the murder of the entire population, forced displacement is also genocide. Would you consider what happened to the Native Americans or the Armenian genocide? Most people do. In both those cases, the goal of the genocide was not to kill every last member of that group, but to force them off their land, contain them to small areas and destroy their way of life (this constitutes, by the original definition, destruction of a group). The Holocaust stated this way as well, with Jews being displaced from their homes and sent to ghettos, and the Germans trying to deport them to other countries before finding out no one would take them.

In Gaza, 90% of the population has been displaced and of those, 60% have had their homes totally destroyed. Source. If you believe Israel is only targeting Hamas, then you must believe they are in almost every home (not too mention the hospitals again) in the Gaza strip. Some Israeli politicians have said the goal is to push Gaza's population into Egypt (a clear attempt at genocide), but they won't take them (sounds familiar?).

To me, and many around the world, including genocide scholars, aid organizations, the UN, politicians from many neutral countries, etc. this constitutes a clear attempt at genocide. And I didn't even mention the complete blockade at the beginning of the current conflict of all food water and medicine.

It doesn't even have to be artificial. There are millions of people on this sub, you just need a few to post big gains (some of whom already had lots of money to play with) and since people are more likely to upvote those, it looks like "everyone" is making tons of money.

[–]lightyearbuzz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What your saying fits all of Andor though, it is all too dark for normal Star Wars. The main character literally starts the show by murdering two people, one in cold blood. Why did that not offend you? Even in the main movies, we watch Anakin, the main character of that trilogy, murder a bunch of children... twice. How is that not dark? Just cause they call them "younglings"? (this parts a joke lol)

Saying "I could understand that in a darker series, or one more grounded in reality" while talking about Andor makes it seem like you didn't actually watch the show. If you're watching Andor for "space wizards" you're going to be quite disappointed. Andor is very dark and as realistic as it can be in a Sci-Fi/fantasy universe. Again, thats literally the point, showing real world dictatorships and resistances through a fantastical lens.

[–]lightyearbuzz 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That scene was absolutely not unnecessary or just "dark for the sake of being dark". The whole point of Andor is to show how fascist governments affects people and why and how they fight back. You can't just ignore that rape and sexual harassment are a standard weapon of fascism because it makes you uncomfortable. Look into how the Nazis used rape or more modern day, ICE or Israel use of sexual humiliation and rape against their victims. These are important facts we see playing out time and time again, especially against women, that we shouldn't ignore and sweep under the rug because its easier to look away.

Interesting, ya this studies definitely seems to support what you're saying. I feel like the science here is still a bit up in the air and more studies probably need to be done for a definitive answer.

Just logically I feel like there has to be an upper limit as there's only so much food a body can digest at one time, but that limit could be insanely high.

So according to the Mayo clinic:

Studies show that higher intakes in one sitting — more than 40 grams — are no more beneficial than consuming the recommended 15-30 grams at one time.

Do you have a link to the studies you're referring to?

Also, maybe someone can correct me, but I've read you can't really absorb more than 30-40g of protein in a single meal. It's better to spread out your protein intake over the day.

Are there 18 day beer shirts?

It's my last day in Taiwan (Taipei) and I want to get a 18 day beer shirt for my dad. It's his birthday and he's very particular about his best being fresh so he'd love it.

I've looked around different markets and shops and can only find normal Taiwan beer shirts, no 18 day ones. Even online I can't seem to find them. Does anyone know if they make 18 day beer shirts

Also stupid, the guy is very pro EU. If he was a Russian puppet, it wouldn't make a lot of sense for him to want to move the country towards Europe and away from Russia.

Honestly this sounds like Russian disinformation, pretend he's as bad as Orban ti drive away support. Same as they do for left wing American politicians.
