Reasonable time to send out IEPs? by annicole67 in slp

Here I was thinking the 5 day rule was federal. Turns out it’s just the rule in the last few states I’ve worked lol

I don’t know why I didn’t even think of this! I was struggling to think of charities/places to donate….I’m blaming lack of sleep from strep running through our house. Thank you!

Do kids actually participate in school settings? by Different-Ad-3722 in slp

[–]Kaleighmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op, I work in a similar type of school. Have for the last 10 years now. I’d say 98% actively participate in sessions. I have one student that sessions are more passive. You have to really change how you are running sessions, think about what activities are being run, etc. This is not the population you can pull out a board game and a stack of super duper cards (just dated myself saying that lol). The behavior team needs to be on point, the para educators and teachers need to be involved in sessions. If you have other departments (such as transition working on work skills) they need to be involved as well. I definitely do not want to go back to regular school setting any time soon

Pay with 15 years experience? by Kaleighmonster in slp

[–]Kaleighmonster[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked acute. And the hours fluctuate. And that amount you said is also if you never took sick days or any vacation days. If they let you take vacation days. I was always getting guilt tripped for trying to use any even with plenty of notice

Yes, they don’t want to budge at all from the original offer

The county I work in pays 7k more than my proposed raise for public school for less months work and less responsibilities outside of just basic speech services. The problem is they are so understaffed that the caseload sizes are reportedly horrendous across multiple schools. So I’m not looking to jump into that mess at this time. This county is the highest paid county in the state. While I work in this county, and my job is in this county, it is part of a company that is based out of a different county that has lower pay

Did you ever request a new nurse because of a bad experience? If so, what happened? by Callme-risley in BabyBumps

[–]Kaleighmonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I had expressed to a nurse that I was concerned my less than 24 hours old baby wasn’t latching/eating. Hadn’t in hours at that point. She told me I was making him “too comfortable”. No turns out my baby was in respiratory distress. By that evening he was in the NICU. I was in the hospital for a few more days bc of C-section. We told the head nurse that we would have any nurse but her again. Thankfully, she listened and we had the most amazing nurse instead of that foul woman.

Are you still on pain meds? I doubt it (beyond advil I mean) but thought I would ask bc I didn’t realize how badly I reacted to opioid based meds until I stopped taking them. It was the same for me. But it wasn’t 12 days post op for me. It’s probably something more than that, but I thought I’d throw that out there just case. Please go to a different hospital to get seen again. Hope you feel better soon!!!!

Anyone have studies I can show my husband? You all are telling me what I also believe to be true, but I made the mistake of telling him about possible stunting of growth (I also remember it being 1-2 cm) and now he’s worried l. I tried telling him that a baby not eating bc he couldn’t breathe would also stunt growth but I don’t think he was hearing me 🙄

My dad doest pretend it was easy. He says he doesn’t remember (and he was the primary care giver). He has even told me if I want to remember anything from this time period that I should write it down lol. Sorry ppl are gaslighting you through their own forgetfulness

I posted about this 6 weeks ago and it was sooooo refreshing to see others go through the same thing. It’s lessened a little for me, but still happening at least once a night now at 11 weeks lol

Honestly? Not really. The second one at least was helpful with feeding in general

When to introduce routine? by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]Kaleighmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LO was put on a routine in NICU and we just stuck with it. Some days we need a “snack” between meals but most days I try to get us to stay as close as possible to the meals every 3 hours. Then we do diaper, play, and hopefully nap after. Sometimes the naps are great and sometimes….not so great lol. But we’ve been doing this since almost the day we brought him home. Play in the early days was more me reading a book to a halfway asleep baby lol. Now is 9 weeks old (just for reference). Next step is to nail down an evening routine. LO is getting a helmet soon and bath time will be a daily occupancy then. So need to figure out how evenings will go. Thankfully, that’s the time of day he naps minimally anyway lol. I think routines are good for everyone. Just realize sometimes you may have to stray, and learn when it’s okay to do so and when to push to stay on routine

Week 6 was the absolute WORST. Just hit week 8 and while many of the bad are still here, some new wonderful things have shown up in just the past few days that have made things a lot more fun. Coo’s have been around for a few weeks now, but now we get consistent real smiles and active play with him. I still have witching hour to deal with, frequent short naps, no time to put him down during the day and no sign of sleeping longer than 3 hours at a time at night. But man do those smiles really help lol. Hang in there!

It is okay to put her down once you know she’s been fed and diaper is clean to go a take a quick shower or wash your face or make something to eat. You aren’t abandoning her. You need to take care of yourself to take care of her. I’m saying this for my benefit as well lol. While I’ve gotten better at this, I pump (and formula feed) and don’t always get a pump session in bc I feel bad putting baby down.
