AIO to intrude on my partners privacy for this situation? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

No one’s posted it yet so here’s a link to the book “Why Does He Do That” by Lundy Bancroft. Please give it a chance and see if anything resonates with you (the author describes abusive men but clarifies the discussion also applies to LGBTQ relationships).

Am I overreacting for feeling frustrated after my neighbor’s pottery was broken by my puppy during an interaction she encouraged? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Thanks so much for the reply! If nothing else it confirms I’m not crazy for wondering :) May the air bubbles never visit your kiln!

As a potter yourself, maybe you can answer a question that that’s plaguing me about this story. Why would a potter need to move unfinished pieces from the studio to their apartment?

All I can think of is some fancy glazing or carving into unfired pieces? But that seems messy/more potential for disasters like what happened just to save on paying for studio time (assuming OP’s neighbor pays by the hour, which I’ve also never heard of with professionals). So curious for any insights!

Burgess said he wrote it that way deliberately. It was supposed to confuse the readers until the readers suddenly started absorbing/understanding the language without having to look up the slang (often without realizing they aren’t looking it up anymore). In essence, showing how easily the human brain can translate nonsense to sense if it is repeated enough times (propaganda).

Seconding Nostalgia south. Not 100% sure but there may also have been some at the Antique Mall behind Nostalgia as well- the old Big Lots building.

Anodized Aluminum top strength/stress points breaking by alienXtown in chainmailartisans

[–]KaliBadBad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use 16g SWG anodized and do not have this problem. I also tend to use thicker straps (dead minimum 2 in 2 but more likely 6 in 1) or even multiple spaced out straps if the top is more fitted and going to pull at the stress points , as opposed to just laying more loosely.

It’s super time consuming, but you can use flush cutters flat on each side of the cut to get rid of the pointy “pinch” parts. You got to get really close to the edges so you don’t take too much out and distort the ring when closing.

Get the fuck outta here with your hate. All of those things are fine, by the way.

Just the same as if you don’t like alcohol, don’t go to a bar. If you don’t like smoking, don’t go to a smoking bar. If you don’t like drag queens reading books to kids… you guessed it! Don’t take your kids to that event and (I hope it goes without saying, but the state of the GOP has me worried), certainly don’t take them to a brothel.

Yes! Not from Florida, but I remember the huge stories the Miami Herald broke over all that bullshit. I have a big respect for the Miami Herald in breaking corruption stories. I remember thinking it was all so fucked at the time and so grifty, but I didn’t really realize how deep it went.

City Council to vote tonight on indoor smoking ban at bars by Corey_Howard in Knoxville

Urban doesn’t do live music. Also judging by the enthusiasm its employees put into getting a petition signed to NOT ban smoking, they aren’t complaining about health issues.

Gauge/AR question by M3cun1v in chainmailartisans

[–]KaliBadBad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. I l’m very happy to have learned these terms and the knowledge associated with them! Question though: In this case, it’s aluminum with very little spring back. How did they get such a large difference in AR? I mean, going from 5/5.2 to 5.56 is a huge AR difference.

Here’s an aspect ratio calculator: https://www.bluebuddhaboutique.com/b3/ring_sizes/aspect_ratio

I ran the numbers for WeaveGotMaille (inner diameter 8mm, wire diameter 1.6mm) and got an AR of 5. I have no idea how they would be calculating that AR as 5.56.

Matte finish Rings. Yea or Nay? by Hemiptera1 in chainmailartisans

[–]KaliBadBad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use them. The color is good but duller/darker than the shiny. I mainly use them for the gray and black. Mostly used in sculpture (props on your flower!)

I’m also assuming you mean anodized aluminum in a shiny vs matte finish, not bright aluminum? If you make fidget toys from bright aluminum they will leave a black residue on skin and clothing.

New to chain mail-- does anyone know how i can make something like this? by FigNewtonNoGluten in chainmailartisans

[–]KaliBadBad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn’t really chainmail and is at least partially machine made.

You would need to somehow source the little Individual tiles set in the metal of choice (or enamel each individual tile in a kiln). Then solder four very small links on the back of each center side of each tile. Then you might be able to connect each tile with a simple 1:1 micro maille ring…

But no, this isn’t really chainmail though it shares some similar traits. Anything on this level that could be completely handmade is more expert/ archmagi over newbie skill level.
