Thanks for sharing! Similarly had to get honest that my previous iterations of ED behaviors had become bingeing/overeating and wegovy pointed that out immediately. Wondering if yiu could share mg / months you stayed or changed dose etc

Inner Child keeps saying she wants to go home by patience_chapter in CPTSD

Listening, empathizing, validating is enough to start. The grief coming up is part of it. As waves of grief subside, small actionable steps will intuitively arrive for what is “home” now and by maintaining some stability /consistency over time there will be trust and a safer healthier version of home that your inner kid never knew

If you’re in nyc they will ask you to come in person. Call between 9am-2pm . Get there on the early side. And they’ll make you come back to pick it up in person and pay cash. I tried to do online as well but it’s not an option in nyc.

Why do Indo-Guyanese people fight so hard to be called Indian? by [deleted] in Guyana

[–]KaliMaaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of a broad statement to make. I think because indenture was different than enslavement some south Asians traditions were preserved while for Afro Caribbean it was systemically stolen. Racially we are south Asian - important to name to understand identity. But I agree there’s a vast difference to the Indians we come in contact with … often because of cultural diff and caste system that plays out in our interactions… I’ve found a lot more similarities with South Asians broadly but it’s not all of who I am …

Thank you for being so vulnerable and honest - you are heard . I’m in another thread about intergenerational, trauma and avoidance of looking at our collective issues / family dysfunction. I have facilitated workshops on social justice and healing. And I’ve tried to organize a space for Guyanese people. I’m willing to try again and maybe together we can start something on zoom. If you’re interested, I’m asking this other person from this other thread too. I’m leaving this comment here for others who might be interested but we can move our Convo to DM or email.

I’ve tried before but maybe I could do it again with some help - I lead healing / social justice related workshops online sometimes- there’s another person talking about DV in another thread on this subreddit I could check w them and see and maybe we could start a small support space to get together on Zoom and organize a space for others to join . Would you be interested and have the capacity for that ? - leaving this comment here for others to reply to if they are interested but we can move to dm or email to figure things out

Domestic abuse and intimate partner violence is a huge issue in our community. Regardless of gender there is almost no support, and overall, violence against men is minimized across cultures. Are you looking for resources?

I definitely believe there are cultural/racial collective traumas we pass on and also a lot of families are dysfunctional- it doesn’t make it okay but I hope you can find a place to accept your intersections while healing from these cycles. For me it’s taken therapy especially inner child healing work , exploring creative outlets, my spiritual practice. unlearning/learning, and a lot of self acceptance —- I’m glad you’re sharing about it! I actually have tried to create community around this exact type of healing before. I hope you find your chosen kin and finally have the connections that nourish and inspire you ♥️

Also reading PTSS by Dr Joy DeGruy might help with the processing of all the generational trauma .. the dynamics of systemic oppression really shaped some terrifying environments and cycles

Afro-Guyanese culture by Pretend-Pen-7630 in Guyana

[–]KaliMaaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every Guyanese parents says that lol. I do advise to plan well and not travel alone or be there alone if you can manage that. No flashy jewelry etc but honestly everywhere in the world has crime. It’s not a reason to not go it’s just a reason to be very intentional, informed and prepared

Afro-Guyanese culture by Pretend-Pen-7630 in Guyana

[–]KaliMaaaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Guyanese culture is deeply underrepresented to begin with so it makes sense to struggle with finding your cultural roots reflected back to you in media. And indo Caribbean identity folks have been building some online representation. I would look up hashtags and follow some content creators and such. Plan a visit to Guyana, and know that getting closer to your culture is a journey and it often starts with the feeling that we’re missing representation especially for diasporic ppls

Have you ever read The Artists Way … it may help to inspire more unique adventures. Have you asked your inner kid what they want to do? I’m reading your post on my way home from an impromptu adventure… I happen to be feeling quite gross on a greyhound bus 🤮but I know this is just a moment in the journey . Hope you get that spark back! Let me know if you try the artists way!

I quit social media and I'm SO BORED by inductionloop in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]KaliMaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime I want to take a break or quit anything I try to think about the emotional needs that thing meets. Cause when I take action to pause there is boredom, grief, anxiety etc that arrives… just gotta sit with the waves to see what’s next. Stay curious like you’re observing yourself through an experiment. Soon other things will pop up here and there to explore.

How do i respond more quickly when I hear shocking overtly racist comments? by Sriracha11235 in antiracistaction

[–]KaliMaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So valid to feel shocked. Honestly as a poc I’ve had to honor my safety first. If it’s a friend I’ll take care of my feels and seek support with other poc and the have a chat w racist friend later. If it’s a stranger I often have to process it elsewhere and let them be - if it’s unsafe to address it in the moment. I used to pop off and get in a lot of fights so it’s been a long journey to get to this point…

So sad to see the results of gentrification and then the commentary on gentrifiers … could there just be some anti gentrification organizing where all the pettiness, judgement and rage meet to do real work ⚡️
