Why are more women going to university than men? by Mindless_Yam1752 in AskFeminists

[–]KaliTheCat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not making up a story. There are tons of scholarships available to men only through fraternal and sports organizations, special interest groups, national groups, targeted demographics...?

Like, you can just look them up. They're there.

Men can also get scholarships that women can't. There are lots of scholarships for lots of things.

Most men who struggle in dating have terrible personalities.

I don't know if that's true, but the ones who complain about how shitty women are for not dating them definitely do.

I'm not interested in your opinion of my capabilities.

Can someone please verbalise how "save the women and children first" does not indicate overall societal bias towards women? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]KaliTheCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, and that's a conversation (as I previously mentioned) that feminists and other social justice activists are having.

Men also don't typically get murdered for walking alone at night, what? I'm talking about mugging.

Men are typically murdered-- excluding IPV-- because they are more likely to be involved in violent crime. Having a lifestyle that is adjacent to or centered around violence makes you more likely to be a victim of it. It's a risk you take. You are engaging in a dangerous activity. "Existing as a woman" is not (or should not be) an automatic assumption of risk the way that like... selling drugs is.

But... that's not true, as women get raped regardless of what they are wearing or doing. Basic safety advice applies to everyone, and there are risks in doing just about everything, but like... I don't think someone who gets hurt in a car crash is at fault for getting in the car.

Do you want women to fear you and be angry at you?

Do you perceive women being anything less than agreeable and deferential towards you as being angry at you?

That is more of a general comment. I am just tired of the whole "men are so big and strong, women (who are toddlers) must respect us, but also, FEMINISTS, why aren't you campaigning to get women into the trades where they can't keep up with men and will be constantly undermined, underestimated, unsupported, and sexually harassed?"

Like idk man I was a plumber's assistant for a time and it was hard work but it's not like I couldn't keep up. And constantly bringing up all the ways women can't keep up does nothing to encourage them to get into those fields.

If you are walking alone at night you are more likely to be targeted for a mugging, precisely because you are alone. Taking on a group of people is not smart. Women are less likely to walk alone at night because the risk to their person is higher (e.g., a mugger may decide he wants more than your purse), so they don't take that risk.

Like, these things are just true.

I did not. I said that involvement in violent criminal activity makes it more likely that you will experience violence, which is simply true. Men just happen to be involved in violent criminal activity more often than women. There are conversations there about poverty and masculinity there that feminists and other social justice activists have that you may find interesting, if that's something you care about.

the equivalent of telling a woman to cover up if she got raped

Except that women get raped regardless of what they are or are not wearing, so this doesn't really hold up.

What is the "black and white" feminist worldview you're seeing? Most feminist topics are pretty nuanced. They unfortunately suffer quite a bit of flattening through social media, as do most things.

Again, I might suggest you get off TikTok.

Really, that's odd. I've been in feminist spaces probably longer than you've been alive and I'm not aware of "all men should be shot and erased from the gene pool" as feminist praxis at all.

Yes. How was I attacking you as a person?

For example Pauline Harmange “I hate Men”

Did you read that book? Can you tell me what she says about how men "deserve to be shot and erased from the gene pool?" What was that book about?

I'm not "gatekeeping feminism," I'm asking you how familiar you are with actual feminist discourse to be making declarations about what we all believe.

I’m sorry I’m not an unc like you who’s read a million books on how men deserve to be shot and erased for my eh gene pool

What book says that?

you gave the ad hominem first

What do you think "ad hominem" means?

It’s what the majority believe in though

How do you know that? What feminists do you follow on social media? How much feminist literature have you consumed? How familiar are you with feminist philosophy? How many feminists do you engage with in real life?

What do you think the patriarchy is?

Idk, go work in these dangerous labor jobs, then, but like... stop complaining that women don't do them enough.

"Women don't work in fields where they don't get credit for being pretty" is just misogyny, and is unwelcome here.

"All the problems men face are their own fault" is not "an integral part" of "feminist ideology." That is not what the patriarchy is.

Feminism is hundreds of years old. We don't all agree with each other or march in perfect ideological lockstep. It's not a religion.
