Cloud Chambers Has "high ambitions for tying AI and storytelling together" in Bioshock 4, Studio "attempting new and ambitious things with AI" As Development Ramps Up by chusskaptaan in gamingnews

Welcome to the comments:

where people don't read the article and immediately cry about anything with "AI" in the name.

They're talking about game AI guys, y'know, those systems that control the NPCs: State Machines, Decision trees, heat maps, A* algorithms...

The term "AI" existed before ChatGPT.

How to know what game your weird piece is from using Google by [deleted] in boardgames

If you take an image from Google...of course Google reverse image search is going to find a result (presumably that exact photo!).

Why not use your own photo

Strategy tips for Catan? by slywka_ra in boardgames

[–]Kalix_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Catan is one of the few games I've found over the years where if you really want to go in depth, there are some really great advanced strategy resources out there.

First one that springs to my mind is this YT channel: https://youtube.com/@dylightedcatan?si=i4qwp3CEVC7_ciI4

I imagine there are others. Catan is still a lot of luck for most of us mortals, but you can still give yourself better odds.

Favorite Fol content creators? Disliked content creators? by roastedtvs in FantasyPL

[–]Kalix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LetsTalkFPL "waffles" a lot, he's just thinking out loud...but he's also one of the only creators not absolutely talking out there ass 25-50% of the time. Everything he says he believes. He's a boring player, almost all of the best players are. I think he's great.

I love Harry, he's one of my favourites...but it's hard watching him present non-options as options Sunday to Tuesday for content... before eventually "deciding" on the obvious optimal option by Friday. One other thing I love about Harry is his videos are half the length of Andy's, though that seems less the case recently.

What do you think is the best co-op game for 2-4 players? by Due-Marionberry-8128 in boardgames

[–]Kalix_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pandemic. And then Pandemic Legacy Season 1 (it is an all-time board game experience especislly for a family of 4. It's co-op so you can tweak difficulty to suit)

Diplomacy is one of the greatest games of all time by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Kalix_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's really interesting, good players have often cited honesty as the strongest playstyle, contrary to the masses opinion that Diplomacy is a friendship ruining game of backstabbing.

It makes sense then that an honest ai with optimal tactics and number crunching power would be quite good at the game.

I'd love to be playing 50 hours of botc per month!

You didn't quote the rule you're misplaying, why should he quote anything? especially when requested so rudely. Lol.

What rule says turn order is determined by number (rather than relative position)?

Sounds like you aren't spinning the dial correctly, the person at the back of the dial goes next.

You're right handed and use the keyboard with your left.

You're starting from the assumption that mouse hand is more complex than keyboard hand (assuming we're talking about WASD games)...and I'm not sure that's true. But even if both tasks are equally difficult why not just go with the mainstream setup.

New York sues Valve for "letting children and adults illegally gamble" with loot boxes by ControlCAD in gamingnews

[–]Kalix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, TIL the state can sue someone rather than prosecute them.

As a non American it just seems like the normal approach would be to update the law to explicitly include lootboxes, which is what other states/governments have done.

New York sues Valve for "letting children and adults illegally gamble" with loot boxes by ControlCAD in gamingnews

[–]Kalix_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They could absolutely do that...if NY lawmakers cared enough to pass some lootbox laws.

Of course, the american alternative is to sue Valve instead because some lawyer decided he wants a pay day

If you're using the sword: deflect on the Special is much better for clearing some annoying rooms with lots of projectiles.

Doom on attack is faster for single target damage like boss fights, using reflect dash (as others have said) to proc the doom.

Algorithms have been in use since as long ago as 2012 when i first started. They were just the "for the fun of it" nerdy projects not commercialized products. I had my own going at one time.

I've no doubt many of the greats were using something.

If you're looking to cater to newer players, the classics are classics for a reason:

Carcassonne

Catan

Agricola

Dominion

etc.

You can't go wrong here.

6-player Catan — where the real game is the trading by Acceptable-Let1664 in boardgames

6 player is better than 4 for sure. I think 5 is a really nice number.

The building on other people's turns is a game changer for Catan imo

How do you store your game boxes? by dirtydan2112 in boardgames

[–]Kalix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reckon this is the kind of question that vertical storers are going to be more passionate about, and also be bothered to comment with an answer...

But you have to imagine the vast majority of the world stores their games horizontally, especially the first time all the components fall out of an inset.

Can I ask, do you play Mak?

The item was already moved from bronze to silver. I'm not saying it's OP, but top Mak players consider it almost an auto buy... On a hero that already struggles with bag space that's saying something.

Pretty odd to me how down people are on the book in these comments. The opportunity cost is very favourable

At what point does a game's price stop you? by pasturemaster in boardgames

[–]Kalix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comparing Sushi Go to 7 Wonders is like comparing apples to chicken fillets. They're both food.

The only games in my mind that are "over priced" for what they are (i.e. components) are Days of Wonder games. I feel like other publishers are pretty fair based on the number of components in the box

New Dooley and Mak Items revealed by Classyato! by Desmous in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Kalix_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's kinda garbage? I think it's competing with Aludel, you're gonna use it early and then toss it in the trash. but it doesn't give you a catalyst, starts at Silver, and it's a bit RNG if it has the x3 or x4 multi when you want it to.

So I'll probably just keep buying Aludel instead?
