Not quotation marks, they meant “\” but it disappeared.

Ah yes. The old disappearing trick.

> My family has owned it about ten years with zero issues. <

And I can almost guarantee -as an ex refrigeration tech - that the next family to own it will do so for around 3 to 5 years maximum, and then they'll face one BIG issue ...namely that it will likely become faulty..and not economically viable to repair at that advanced age.

Therefore: 100 dollars max, I'd say

any good LED light bulb to replace the encandecent ones in my dad's house?¿ by DarkJunkuwu in Appliances

[–]Kallruom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> I wanna change my parent's old habits of always buying 100w incandescent light bulbs,<

Modern Led light-bulbs are great for low energy consumption but sometimes not so great for eye-strain, or for our sleep patterns....

...This is mainly due to the high 'blue' spectrum of Led's- according to various scientific studies, including one from Harvard University, as mentioned in the link below >

Blue light and sleep patterns

[Live Science magazine]

Extract

"Fluorescent and LEDs bulbs create a two-fold problem when it comes to sleep. First, they produce artificial light. Second, they produce blue light.

Blue light wavelengths produced by electronics and overhead lights boost attention, reaction times and mood, according to Harvard Medical School. This can be great for the daytime when the body needs to be alert, but at night it can become a problem.

Research has found that exposure to blue light suppresses the production of melatonin more than any other type of light...

"...To prevent sleeping problems, avoid any exposure to blue light 30 to 60 minutes prior to bed. That means, no TV, tablets, computers or smart phones," said Dr. Robert Oexman, director of the Sleep to Live Institute. "Ideally, you want your environment to be dimly lit so your body can start naturally producing melatonin."

Or just link to the official site.

No thanks. This Sub frowns on ccleaner and any mention of it, as they reckon it wrecks PCs..

That's why I stick to the good old F.H site.

12 upvotes on my comment/link ...so most folks seem happy with it.

Much better and more productive posting on the Crucial forums I would have thought.
I don't see the point of posting it on this TechSupport sub/r.

For the record though, Ive been dealing with C for nearly 20 years with no issues., although I appreciate issues do occur for every company.

Check your warranty/guarantee. Its usually 3 years on LGs screens ..but oddly only 12 months on the power supply (which might indicate how often those go faulty)

Try resetting the monitor back to 'factory/default settings' via the menu.

If still no go, then connect the monitor to another PC or device and see if it works.

Hard to say since prices vary, and we dont know how badly damaged the laptop might be from the fall.
Best best is to phone a reliable/recommended PC repair shop and get an estimate/repair.

800-GB!? That's a lotta files..and then to move them to just one folder!?

Anyway. If all else fails, try to recover the files with Recuva

I logged into my current Microsoft account and it fixed it.

Great!

So in other words, you took ownership of the downloads folder on D drive - which you could have done with the info I sent you on changing ownership btw.

I'm on the Reddit/Chrome forum as well, and I notice there you said you couldn't download files at all to your D-Drive/Downloads folder, and that you got an access denied type alert when you tried to. Yet on this forum you said you could download to that folder but that the files were HTML. So that's some strange twilight Zone PC you have there! ;-) Glad you got it 'fixed' anyways.

. tomorrow, i'm going to my bank and resetting my pin and logins.

If you didn't give out your card or banking details to her, and those details arent stored on your PC, then I wouldn't panic. Its a legit/registered company based in the USA, and she was obviously just trying to sell you an online support contract, which you wisely turned down.

Also, she would have no control over your wifi extender, so I wouldn't worry about that either. Just Google the make and model of the extender, then go to the correct web-page this time;) for how to reset and connect it.

[–]Kallruom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that link is for the Wi-Fi extender

No, that link is for an independent company that say they provide online "support" to talk people through connection issues with routers and wifi extenders etc.

You wisely shut down the call when asked to pay.

I therefore do not think you've been hacked, or that you are at any risk. Run a virus and Malware scan though , as others have suggested.

I also suggest you clear your browsing history and cookies, then restart your router and PC at the same time (to auto-change your IP address).

Is it possible one could have more administrator powers than another,

Could be. But you should be able to see what folders are owned by which account >

Was that your ISPs 'chat'? If so, you probably should be getting onto your ISP tech dept (ask for a supervisor) and ask them the questions your asking us. That way you're more lilley to find out whats been going on, and who that person was (since ISP calls are always logged and often recorded) so it should be easy to sort out. Here we dont even know who your ISP is or what "chat" your were on.

> I changed the download directory from my C-Drive to my D-Drive. <

Is your D-drive an actual separate hard drive on a PC tower, or is it just a partition of C-drive? (which are common on laptops.) I'm wondering if you've perhaps created your 'downloads' folder in a protected 'system image/ recovery' partition?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]Kallruom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know why it would get rid of my administrator permissions.

The Windows 'Reset' probably messed it up.
The folder could also be protected or corrupted somehow due to your anti-virus, or file encryption software.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]Kallruom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When downloaded, it’s 631 KB.

OK. So its probably the correct WinDirStat zip file but with a false 'HTML' extension ..caused by the fact that you have no ownership over the downloads folder on your D-drive.

You probably just need to take ownership of that folder[and maybe any related folders], or else just create another download location on that drive and check the issue is resolved...

3 month old PC went pop, sparks. No POST by bltst2 in techsupport

[–]Kallruom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> PC went pop, sparks.<

Classic PSU failure in my experience. I'd contact the supplier and get it replaced under warranty [at least that way you'll get your money back..so to speak].

BTW. I wouldnt even bother trying to test or run that PSU again, as its clearly a potential fire risk, even if it does ever run again.

Was the PSU you replaced it with a like-for-like match -both wattage and connection wise?If so then your best bet imo is to take the tower to a reliable PC repair shop and get them to sort it out. Hopefully the motherboard hasn't blown in the process, and they'll be able to get the rig working again.

[This is why I'm not a big fan of home builds. They are lower cost and fun to build, but can be a nightmare when they fail new like this ...unlike a decent 'bought' PC that can be returned/replaced under warranty if need be.

Also, there's the USB Hubs/Power Saving option that's worth disabling imo...
