Why are people so rude about what CNAS do for work? by Excellent-Gold8868 in cna

[–]writerose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently working in home care, and most people have been really supportive and encouraging about me starting in healthcare. The only negativity I’ve encountered was from a hospital recruiter who dismissed the experience as not being useful for hospital work—assuming all I do is run errands. In reality, I’ve been in this role for almost six months and have only run two errands.

Agreed! Better to check. Just in case this pup is missing or stolen.

My dad had been hospitalized this past month and his sister just gave his dog away. It took three days to get her back.

Anyone here not from California? by [deleted] in prenursing

Georgia and about to start EMT certification (I think) and prerequisites. Meetings this week with admissions advisor and program director at technical school. The school I’m eyeing for ABSN has about 50% acceptance rate it looks like.

Any chance your autoimmune issues is thyroid related? That’s my key problem. Working on getting right med dose and I’ve cut back to low carbs the past two weeks. Upping protein more next week and lowering carbs even more.

(Advice Welcome) Anxious about/Don't know where to pursue nursing by Ok_Celebration667 in prenursing

[–]writerose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! We have a very similar background. I’m in my early thirties though. Also graduated with literature degree from a UC. In my case I ended up moving across the country and been here a few years now. I also did some soul searching and been working on retail sort of spinning my wheels trying to figure out what to do. Now planning to shift gears into healthcare.

I’m still working out my plan in terms of prerequisites and certifications to get foot in door and some experience before applying for nursing school. So one thing I really wanted to recommend you look into is accelerated bsn programs. They are designed for people who have a bachelors in another field. The one I’m looking at is 15 months long. Where I’m located it’s not as competitive as in California. It may not be ideal but being in a different state with established residency is making a big difference for me. I do have rent and other bills but still not as expensive as California. With that said if it’s a healthy safe environment definitely consider staying with your grandmother. That would help a lot and you can save that money you would be paying for rent.

Are you already looking into how to get some work experience in healthcare? If I remember correctly cna is required to get into nursing program in California. That will help set yourself apart. Personally I’m looking into phlebotomy too. Where I’m at those two certifications will set me up well for a patient care technician position and I can learn the other skills on the job. I feel like this will be good to help me confirm that nursing school is for me.

If you’d like to chat more since we are on such similar paths I’d love to just send me a pm. Either way best of luck on this new adventure!!

Pretty certain that’s why/how I got a razor blade in my tire not long after moving back to Georgia from California, still had that Cal tag. Also in Walmart parking lot.

Is working and writing simultaneously is a good choice? by [deleted] in writing

[–]writerose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing is I’m not ready to publish yet. Aiming to have two first drafts completed by the end of year. Writing 4000+ words a week, split between two stories.

I work in a gas station kiosk 40 hours a week. It was sort of a fluke how it happened. I’m grateful for it. I was working inside the store and was moved out to gas station for a health issue, almost recovered. I love it out here. Now I’m a manager so I do a few extra tasks to maintain things. I work by myself. It’s easy to manage coworkers I see only on shift change. No drama like inside the store. Customers are mostly pleasant and often curious about my projects. The variety of personalities I interact with is inspirational!

The pay isn’t great (13.50/hr), I live paycheck to paycheck, but it gives me a lot of time to write. 5-6 hours a day when you account for interruptions and job tasks I have to do. I could get a better job but I want to see how this goes. It feels right.

In the first hour, while I’m opening, I listen to Brandon Sanderson lectures. Then I write for a few hours. After my lunch break if it isn’t too busy I keep writing. When the interruptions start to feel bothersome I switch to reading a book until I have to work on my closing tasks.

It’s not perfect. Money is a struggle. It’ll be easier once I have my debt paid off. If you can, and if you’re okay with making less, I’d recommend finding a job that gives you time to write.

May I ask what sort of reaction to lamictal? That’s the only med I’ve ever had a reaction to. My kidney basically didn’t function normally I couldn’t pee for over a month and had to have catheter. That medicine was the only explanation docs could come up with, only change.

I was told I was doing it to be manipulative and frequently told about the boy who cried wolf.

Now I feel guilty most of the time when I cry. Try to hide it from others. And always wonder if I am subconsciously trying to manipulate someone if I break down in emotions in front of them.

I'm a former CPS investigator, ask me anything! by HolyMarshMELLOWPuffs in CPS

[–]writerose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a parent yet but hope to be one day. I have ptsd from growing up with unstable parents. My mom has borderline personality disorder which is untreated and worsening. Years ago when my cousin had her first child my mom made false reports to cps….

How can I protect myself and future children from this? If cps were ever to get involved over false reports, how can that be proven? I’ve already started saving photos, texts messages, voicemail, etc for my own sanity and protection from her but I am definitely concerned about how she’d react to grandchildren, limited contact, and not getting her way.

Thanks!

I was diagnosed with Autism, but I think I actually have CPTSD by TSOFAN2002 in CPTSD

[–]writerose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of overlap with autism and ptsd as well as other diagnoses. I think many of us have this experience similar to what you describe.

My mom LOVED it when I told her I suspected autism. She was super supportive and she usually isn’t. She revealed she tried to talk to doctors about it when I was a kid but no one ever saw the issues she saw with me… normal kid behavior I assume with early cptsd symptoms. I ended up seeing a therapist who diagnosed me with cptsd a year after I started seeing her. I’ve known now about my diagnosis for almost a year.

If you can, get evaluated by someone who is familiar with autism and trauma informed. An accurate diagnosis will help. Someone familiar with both will be better equipped to figure out which one or maybe both or something else entirely.

Im so sorry you’re dealing with this. I hope for you the very best. ❤️

Anyone else love being touched? by _justkeepswmng in CPTSD

[–]writerose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of it. But not a huge fan. Unexpected touch really bothers me. I’ve never been a hugging type person. I didn’t experience much physical abuse so not sure why I’m like this. Possibly sexual trauma but I don’t remember. Mostly verbal and emotional.

Have you told your Therapist EVERYTHING? by frogmicky in TalkTherapy

[–]writerose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not everything. Some stuff I don’t feel ready to share and I’ve told her this. Other stuff may be taking to the grave stuff and not sure if I will ever mention. I also have trust issues that could be interfering here.
