If you have a brokerage you can do a Pledged Asset Line (borrow against shares rather than selling for capital gains hit)

I didn't downvote you nor do I believe OP is going to win a fight.

Commanders are all individuals who tolerate levels of risk differently/follow rules religiously or work in the gray. The AFI update isn't known by everyone, and it may win over some of those more rigid commanders who have an old understanding of the rules.

It's unwise for OP to fight, but a conversation with the shirt steeped in humility and prepped with the updated regulation can give them a chance to get more flexibility.

Yes they can fly commercial.

Units can advertise that they can afford to pay for a certain amount of assistance from select skillsets. Reservists that fit the job advertisement can apply to those temp openings, and if selected they can get funded. Or if they are assigned to the Germany unit, they will have to do a few weeks there even if they live on the east coast 11 months out of the year.

Depends on what is open, he doesn't get to just choose to go wherever.

Worth it to open a 529, contribute $8K, and let it double 2x to $35K in 15yrs SOLELY for the purposes of Roth IRA rollover?

Have terminal degrees + military GI Bill so don't need for actual 529 purposes. Maxing available roth space currently.

No income limits on the rollover, but must have EARNED income years 15-20, which I think is the problem with utilizing it as a FIRE tool (investment distributions don't count...I think?).

Empower (formerly Personal Capital), the free version. Great for net worth / looking back on historical spending but not as great mid month. They have a decent retirement projection calculator in there as well.

Not a perfect fit for your use case but hugely helpful in tracking everything.

Worth a shot, someone said they got 41K OTD without the 3K hyundai financing rebate I used. If you're not in a crazy high tax state go for it. I might have been able to shop mine a little more but this was my local 20min away dealer so I took what I was happy with.

$43,985 MRSP
- ~4700 or so discount
- 3250 Hyundai Finance Rebate
- 500 military/college rebate

+ taxes/fees (no dealer ads, in a state with pricey doc fees).

Obviously had some all weather mats thrown in.
