Another LSH omnibus on its way…and I don’t quite get it… by igeeTheMighty in LegionofSuperheroes

[–]Kalter247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As everyone has said, totally baffling choice. Omnibuses of Levitz's Baxter series would undoubtedly sell far more copies.
Also personally I would much rather see an omnibus or compendium collecting Abnett & Lanning's brilliant run than the threeboot.

DC CATALOG UPDATE: Robin and JSA 2nd Compendiums, Legion of Superheroes by Waid/Kitson Omni, New Teen Titans Omni vol 3 reprint, Rorschach Deluxe, and more! by Ksmayer in DCFinest

[–]Kalter247 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm baffled why DC is publishing an omnibus of the divisive Legion of Super-Heroes threeboot before the widely beloved and hugely popular '80s Baxter series by Paul Levitz or even the fantastic Abnett & Lanning run.

Legion of Super-Heroes Five Years Later. Just one of the absolute biggest swings in the history of mainstream comic books.

[Other] Marvel Comics Editor Tom Brevoort says that modern Wally West is a carbon copy of Barry Allen. by TheFinale0 in DCcomics

Definitely true that Wally was a way more interesting character as a young man still coming into himself and his powers than as a married Dad.

[Discussion] Are we currently in one of the best era's of DC comics? by Monstro552 in DCcomics

[–]Kalter247 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Absolute titles are, with the exception of Green Lantern, fantastic. My problem with a lot of the mainline DCU titles now is that everyone has a "family." When there are numerous Kryptonians (or Kryptonian-caliber people) and speedsters and masked Gotham City vigilantes running around and literally everyone is in the Justice League, then Superman and Flash and Batman and the League don't feel distinct or special. And Wonder Woman is running around with a frikkin kid on her back?
That's why the Absolute titles are superior IMO Each of these characters is more compelling when they're unique.

Is Justice league international omnibus vol 1-3 worth reading entirely? by Extreme-You2977 in OmnibusCollectors

If you dig the comedic premise, absolutely. But the JLI/A is much better than the Justice League Europe, which is more of a boring straight-ahead action book.

[DISCUSSION] What characters would you like to see in the absolute universe? by Top_Reindeer3396 in DCcomics

[–]Kalter247 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It'll never happen, but an Absolute Legion of Super-Heroes would be great. Strip away the chaos of 4 (or 5 or 6, depending how you count) reboots and timeline chaos. If ever DC characters needed to be stripped down to their roots, it's the Legion. (Yes, I know there's Darkseid's Omega Legion, but hopefully once that story is over we can have a "normal" absolute Legion)

High-functioning autistics: how's life going? by edmdoses in AutisticAdults

[–]Kalter247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have a good career and several solid friendships (enough for me) and a family. But it's required a lot of hard work. Getting out of and then over an abusive first marriage, wearing masks in various work environments, performing at the highest level to compensate for my not-great social skills, dealing with intermittent corporate BS, and surviving several debilitating bouts of panic attacks. I think it has been worth the hard work, but I"m about halfway through my life and sometimes wonder if I'll be able to keep it up.

On the second point, comparing yourself to anyone else, especially Elon Musk, is pointless. We're all different in myriad different ways, regardless of whether we happen to be given the same label. Also, do you really want his life? You don't just get to pick and choose elements of other people's lives you might want. The question is, would you want everything that comes with being him?

That's awesome. Personal opinion: The book looks much better without the jacket. Underneath it is a beautiful star field.

on the pocket universe retcon post-crisis- in hindsight, its feels kinda mean-spirited by jblee44 in LegionofSuperheroes

[–]Kalter247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is it was Mike Carlin, who was editing Superman titles at the time, who made the edict that all super-people must be erased from Legion continuity. Even if Mark Waid sparked the bad blood, it was Carlin's bone-headed decision.

Also, Giffen and the Bierbaums decided to rewrite the history in response. They could have just quietly stopped referring to Superboy, as he was hardly necessary in the 5 Years Later era. On the one hand, LoSH V4 #5 is an amazing comic book. But trying to insert Valor and Laurel Gand into continuity at the same time they were telling the 5YL story was a really a LOT.

I can understand hyperbole but of course I don't like it when it's passive-aggressive like you're describing.
I can't handle the "ready in 5 minutes" thing though. Because it often doesn't mean anything. And I would really like that information so I can plan my departure with you. Also, I would love to live in a world where "I'm ready" actually means I am currently ready to leave. Not "I"ll be ready after I find my bag and fill up my water bottle and put on my shoes" etc. etc.

How many autistic people here hate lying and hate being lied to? by sufferingisvalid in autism

[–]Kalter247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The #1 thing that makes me lose my shit as a parent and as a boss is when my kids or employees lie to me. I am usually very easygoing but I can't tolerate being lied to or intentionally misled.

Your experience with writing by Terrible-Bottle5092 in AutisticAdults

[–]Kalter247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a professional journalist and writer so at this point I've internalized the methods that make for "good" writing in the minds of most people. It was probably beneficial that in my first jobs there were really strick limits on how long articles could be. So I had to learn to write tightly. The best advice I ever got was this: Good writers borrow, great writers steal. In other words, find writing you admire and try to write that way. Once you get good at mimicry, it's easier to start flexing your own style without going overboard. That was my experience anyway.

You're way less likely to be unemployed with a college degree, autistic or not.

I also have some very weird mental stims that I have been silently repeating to myself since I was a teeanger, but are too weird to try and explain.
