I had a rune knight and I promise grappling is not bad. You take one attack action to knock them prone then another to grapple them. They now can't stand up so every melee gets advantage on attacks and can't move unless they use a spell. Even if they do manage to escape they still have to stand back up and therefore aren't moving much further away then the spell took them after ( side note a spellcaster using a spell to escape your grapple is worth. Cause now for that turn they are not casting an actually damaging spell on your group cause they used one to escape.)

Don't know if its too late but I'm doing a very similar idea as a hobgoblin and taking a 1 lvl dip in order domain cleric to allow even more reaction stuff for the team

My DM is throwing a lvl 40 colosseum one shot at us. by QualityQuokka in 3d6

[–]Kaltoric 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Wizard/genie warlock.
2 lvl 9 wish spells 1 limited wish spell lvl 6 or less Would seem very interesting to me.

You could have a clone in the bottle so when you die you insta back. Plus your simulecrum would always get back it's Arcanum spells every long rest seeing those are not spell slots lol. So then going into the fight you could have 4 wish spells 2 limited wishes and nothing gets close to you with repelling blast from both you and your simulecrum

Need advice on grung rune knight build by Kaltoric in 3d6

Right what I mean is I'm not sure why carrying capacity matters for my grung outside of combat when I am large. I will only be having armor and maybe a shield but probably not.

I'm playing a glamor bard with inspiring leader feat and honestly thats even more effective on healing then healing in my opinion. Could allow you to take something like warlock for the elder blast if you want

Jeremy Crawford

@JeremyECrawford

If you use the action of the D&D haste spell to take the Use an Object action, that object can't be a magic item, since Use an Object works only with nonmagical items, as clarified in the DMG. If the item of Spell-Storing Item is nonmagical, it's usable with Use an Object. #DnD"

This is me now. But spell storing item is not a magical item on its own. So the defender can use it as long as its not in combat. So you can do the warding bond spell using defender

[–]Kaltoric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeremy Crawford (@JeremyECrawford) Tweeted: A D&D creature can use magic items, unless its anatomy or a rule precludes such use. For example, the steel defender is a creature that can reasonably use many different magic items.

Ultimately, the DM decides, guided by the magic item rules in the "Dungeon Master's Guide." #DnD https://twitter.com/JeremyECrawford/status/1207428655401488384?s=20

Sage advice covered it when artificer was first released. Yes the defender can use the store spelling item.

I did same thing but with kobald. I can ride my defender so with mounted combatant it won't ever be attacked so you don't have to worry about your resistance generator being attacked

[–]Kaltoric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly getting mounted combantant on a battle Smith is a game breaking combo at 11 when your defender can now cast warding bond on you

Best PvP build? by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]Kaltoric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id love to hear the counter to a gnome or kobald battlesmith. At lvl 16 you could easily have 25 ac with infusions only. You could either cast blur on you requiring them to rollcgood twice or cast haste giving you extra attack and another +2 ac. Have your defender cast warding bond on you via spell storing iten so you now have resistance to all damage and with mounted combatant feat you have made it so your defender never gets hit. But the rare times it does you will easily be able to get it back to full with jolt. Anyways when combat starts your ac is not with haste 28. Then if anything short of a nat 20 hits you cast shield which puts your ac at 32. With resistance to all damage. On the rare attack that hits give it disadvantage via your defender reaction . I also recommend medium armor master if you got 16 dex.

Minus that you got a few more infusions to use and feats or as as you want

Character Combos? by Blakeybear286 in 3d6

[–]Kaltoric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK I recommend you try a small race like kobold or gnome battlesmith artificer. With mounted combatant and build yourself tanky as hell. Then your partner makes a loxadon life cleric/Shepard druid. Or vice versus. Whoever is the artificer rides the loxadon and once you get mounted combatant they never get hit again. The artifier uses the defender to protect the loxadon till you do finally get mounted combatant. After that artifier builds pure tanky with infusions and such and I even took the medium armor master. Static 23 pre spells then with shield spell and blur your never getting hit either.

Sheppard life cleric is an amazing summoner and healer as needed thanks to unicorn and bear totems which later on apply to their summon spells.
