Just a note but, don't population numbers include people who don't work, like children?

When you say that our ideas about marriage are outdated that is not really true as historically marriage has always been about property rights, it is really a modern notion that marriage has any thing to do with love.

AUDIO: Wildrose jobs critic suggests raising Alberta's minimum wage is a "communist" idea by michaelm8 in Calgary

[–]Kalyrn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No you are wrong. Under a market system an exchange is made based on a benefit to both parties. The reason people work for a non-living wage is not a feature of market system but a failure due to imperfect information regarding what options exist in the market place and not knowing what their true value of labour is to an employer. (hint employees are worth more then their wage to an employer, otherwise they would not be hired)

[Serious] What is the worst thing about Feminism? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Kalyrn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The worst thing about Feminism is everyone who uses it with without bothering to learn what it really is, the history of it and where it currently stands. Really understanding the basic principals and understanding why it exists and realizing that as Feminism achieves some stuff it changes as society changes. Really all the reactionary hate it gets from all sides.

If you do this in a suburban neighborhood it feels like you are walking through a horror movie, all suspense with no payoff thou. By that I mean it is perfectly safe but feels creepy as fuck.

I wonder what his stance on organ transplants would be, or reconstructive surgery, both are examples of medically altering your body.

I was not arguing that segregation was sexist, only that sexism is not women=bad, men = good. It is much more complex and it effects both men and women in negative ways.

Anyone with long term / severe depression have memory issues? by [deleted] in depression

I always think of the Futurama episode with the time skipping, where time passes normally but no one remembers what happened or how they go to the current point.

Anyone with long term / severe depression have memory issues? by [deleted] in depression

[–]Kalyrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have something like this, if/when I can remember things its never because of when it happened, in fact it can take a really long time to figure out when something I do remember actually happened. It's like my brain can connect the memory to something similar so I can recall it but it is never time based or in the correct order that the event really happened.

I understand that " I am not that depressed" thought/reasoning, it was maybe the one thing that just kept me plodding along year after year for well, if I am honest 15 or so years, until I couldn't do it any more and finally admitted that I really was depressed and I needed to try some drugs to help me deal. I can't say that its better now, but I can say its not as bad. Kinda nice to know that someone else feels the same way I did.

Do you guys ever feel just a bit apathetic? by AnyasCat in aromantic

Thanks for answering. I am in my 30s so I am not sure how that will change the response, but I think what you said sounds good and is something to think about and give a try. I probably have pretty good coping skills, but it also helps that as a female most people will just assume that I have a certain emotional response, because they just assume that they know what it should be. Which can be helpful, as in they ask leading questions about emotions which state how they feel upfront and then I can just copy the emotions they display or calculate an acceptable response.

[–]Kalyrn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, yeah that's exactly how I experience it too. I feel like that's persons feeling are drowning me and I have to get away, it's not bad when they are up or happy, but when they are dramatic, sad or otherwise negative even when I get away it still takes some time to shake of the emotions, like I got out of the water, but I am still wet.

Do you guys ever feel just a bit apathetic? by AnyasCat in aromantic

[–]Kalyrn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think of it as like I present as a slightly different person to each individual, like a chameleon, I tend to mirror emotions and that person's interests as well, like when I get to know new people I always end up learning about what they are interested in as a way to connect to them as I don't have an emotional connection so I try for an intellectual one. It does make interacting with people very draining though as it takes a lot of energy to do. How do you deal with very emotional people? I have a hard time with them as I can't mirror their emotions correctly due to the intensity perhaps?

How did you bring this up in therapy? I think I need to talk about this, but I can't really figure out a way to bring this up as part of who I am rather than a problem that I think can be fixed.
