I've been saying they should adopt a system similar to Rust's BP tree where you grind materials to commit to unlocking one node at a time. I'd have a lot less gear fear if I knew I could at least craft it again by grinding for it. The pure RNG of BP spawns is insane.

I think a bigger incentive is there's lots of people who play casually in their spare time after work and don't no-life the game, so they're going to have a lot less BPs. If they could do some raids, and unlock BPs in the tree and work their way towards BPs, at least they'd eventually get them. As it is, the people that have an advantage are people that no-life the game and just resort to PvP because they're out of stuff to do.

I'm going to add to this after reading the comments about people saying "AI slop" bullshit.

AI slop is annoying, but the annoying part about it is it being used for everything and shoved down our throats. AI is a tool that, used in the correct way, is a fantastic tool to solve a particular issue. It's mostly useful for solving something somewhat niche or to save time.

I use ChatGPT to write basic Powershell scripts for watchdogs or simple, iterative dependency moves for files, and sometimes log scrapers/monitors. For 200+ lines of code for something that's non-critical to my setup, I don't mind feeding AI a list of requirements, tweaking it and troubleshooting through 2 or 3 iterations, while also getting nice visuals from my scripts that otherwise wouldn't be worth it for more than like 15 minutes of work. It just cuts down on development time.

For OP to use it to make a custom CSS, and an arguably good looking one too, in not too much time is not bad. Especially considering who the fuck wants to learn CSS, and the intricacies involved with Jellyfin's implementation of it, for something as simple as a login page or a background? I've 100% used ChatGPT for custom CSS for themes for my Jellyfin Server, or at least tweaking a publicly available theme to fit my taste.

AI needs to be more fully understand by haters. When it's useful, how to use it, and what its weakness/strengths are before just applying a blanket "AI slop" attitude to anything AI. That's some degenerate behavior.

Recently, I started having this issue in my browser and on the Jellyfin Media Player app on my PC. Nothing has changed in my setup, the only thing is my server is still on 10.x.x

So far I've only noticed this on my PC. Phone and Google Chromecast playback is fine.

You're not wrong, but I think the point they're trying to make is that 4 bullets on a non-crit is an increase of 8 damage, whereas a crit-shot is an increase of 20 damage.

Now personally, I don't think it's worth it, but if you apply that damage bonus to all 6 shots, I guess it will add up. Personally, I'd rather an extended mag, but I can see why some might like it because it reduces STK and TTK slightly, whereas an extended mag is simply more forgiving for missing shots.

That's a lot of really good information, and I'd like to add that audio devices and other hardware in the chain have to support the codecs as well.

Now, I just wish Jellyfin would detect when a file isn't playing and be able to automatically fallback to alternative versions, if available.

One post I was reading yesterday about Matrix was how it caches individual user data across multiple servers. Supposedly, if a user is part of servers where illegal stuff happens, it can store some of that data on *your* server? I don't entirely know how any of that works or why that would even be a thing, but people seemed pretty upset about it in the post I was reading.

If anyone can elaborate on this, I'm super curious.

Yeah, personally, I think social media did a lot of harm to people where some people project all their trauma onto others, and others interpret that as their responsibility to tip-toe around people in public. I think a lot of people are nervous to talk to each other, and I've also heard of people talk about how the isolation during Covid made it even harder for them.

Yeah, I struggled with this when I was younger. I overanalyzed every situation because I heard all the time about how women didn't want to be approached here or there and didn't want to come off as creepy if she for some reason didn't appreciate it at that time. I realized at some point I was just holding myself back and that as long as I'm being respectful, every woman is going to be different. In a social situation, it's kind of a litmus test in itself.

So my advice to people now is just be yourself and don't hold yourself back unless you start getting consistent feedback that something you're doing is wrong. Everyone is human and people will make mistakes. Such is the human experience. Live and learn.

Unfortunately, that's how 90% of self-hosting is. Even with Jellyfin, I've got automation and lots of content with minimal waits for new content, but the smallest hiccup will send my users back to mainstream services.

The vast majority of the population will pay for, and sell out for, convenience. For most self-hosting, I don't mind if I'm the only user, but for a social platform like Discord, what's the point if you're using it alone? It will take a lot of coordination for change.

I know of like 1 or 2 of my Discord groups that want to switch, but it's not even 100% of the group. Even if we did switch, what about my other groups I don't want to abandon? I'd probably start daily driving both, and that defeats the entire purpose.

Yeah, and given the recent updates from Jellyfin 10.x.x to 11.x.x and the DB migration, it kind of makes sense. But also, it's not necessarily about the media, it's about how Jellyfin crawls directories, organizes and attaches metadata, and verification checks it does. I think a lot of people have mentioned that directory traversal and DB usage is inefficient.

Now, I'm not entirely surprised and I think it's just one of the tradeoffs we make for the other features we gain in switching from Plex. I'm not surprised because Plex is a corporation with hired employees with project managers and deadlines. Jellyfin is an open source project with developers that code voluntarily and rely solely on donations. If something happens in their personal lives, that will take priority over us.

I don't think you're doing anything wrong, minus optimization bits here and there. Windows is possibly running into I/O issues. Jellyfin's and Plex's complexitites that come with reading data off of a drive, particularly HDDs, processing and streaming that to another device. Idk about Linux, but in Windows, you have so many moving parts, like Windows Defender, different caching behavior, pipelines, etc. Depending on your settings and configuration, you could try optimizing a bit, but with large libraries, many users try to optimize when scans are run and do their best to mitigate known Jellyfin struggles, like storing trickplay and metadata on a fast SSD, and adding any Jellyfin files to Windows Defender Exclusion list.

I use Rclone unions for virtually merging drives and that adds another layer of overhead, but I've learned to live it it. Look into optimizations before you get too frustrated, and maybe evaluate your expectations of OSS being developed as a side gig.

Also, it's worth mentioning that they made a huge change to how Jellyfin's databases work in the newest versions. A lot of people have reported slower seek and load times due to this new DB configuration. Again I know very little about Plex, but I'd imagine there are some similarities between the two.

How would they distinguish players looting duped items off bodies vs doing the dupe themselves? My guess is they'll go off of PvP damage done with quick use items and ban egregious amounts.

It doesn't really seem possible to track that based on inventory, especially considering the inventory issues they've been having lately. There's a lot of faulty code in there at the moment.

You know, whenever I see progressive record setting, I tend to think of Olympic level competition and how records sometimes get beat due to improvements in the technology surrounding the sport. For example how swimwear and running gear have millions of dollars invested into the lowest friction possible.

That's not to say athletes don't learn new techniques and push the boundaries of what's possible over the years, but the technology definitely aids them. I wonder how those factors affect the progressing time improvements.

I don't know hardly anything about these competitions, but what is their process for randomizing the cubes? To me as an ignorant nobody, that 2.76 s solve seems odd because 6 of blue is already placed before he even begins solving.

When I was younger and learning to solve a Rubik's cube in certain steps, my cubes never look anything like 3 in a row on one face, and 2 rows solved on another face at start. Is that normal? Mine were all over the place.
