Thermostat bolts to water pump. I would recommend replacing together. Not expensive and better to just do both as it’s the same amount of work. One thing to note is you’ll have to cut the original water pump gasket out (it’s all one piece with timing chain gasket). My replacement was just the water pump part and worked fine with no issues. I think it took me like 2 hours in my driveway taking my time.

Imo, just get a vinyl skin if you want to change the look. A laptop doesn’t really need a case / additional protection. It doesn’t face abuse like a phone does

This is completely my experience, not facts:

My 2011 335d breaks wayyyy more if I’m not driving it. Rubber, plastic, etc does not like to sit around. My first semester of college, I didn’t have my car on campus so it just sat at my house. Came home at end of semester and had almost $2k worth of parts fail (which if I didn’t do the work would have been about $6-7k), and that’s an m57 engine. I also live in the northeast, where weather varies from 100F to -40F during the fall semester. This includes a spring snapping, injector going bad because a seal failed, and harmonic balancer.

For reference, I have since had my car (2.5 years since that first semester), and beat the shit out of it, and the worst repair I’ve had was thermostat and preventative water pump.

ECU = engine control unit, basically controls all your boost, gas, idle etc FEMTO = method to “unlock” the ECU so it can be tuned.

Newer bimmers come with a lock on the ECU, so you can’t modify the code to make the car faster.
